Yahoo mail problem

Hello

My wife started having trouble with Yahoo mail today. When she clicks on the inbox it won't load up the mail messages until you disable Norton Internet Security, then it loads just fine. Enable it and it won't load. Worked last night, didn't work today, nothing was changed at all....

Thanks for any ideas...

I should add, this happens in both IE and Firefox....

Does NIS have any record of this in the norton history? There should be some record of this that says blocked Yahoo Mail because of               , or a record that says                     was blocked at                  time.

Hello

Its Norton Internet Security 2005

I'm right clicking on the icon by the clock and clicking on disable Norton Internet security

No other security software is installed

Win xp sp3, current updates

You could check this Symantec Support Article and follow the steps to see if your issue can be resolved.

I would be remiss if I did not suggest that you consider moving up to NIS 2009, which offers more levels of protection and is lighter on your system resources.

Let us know how you do.

There no article there, just some tool to see if I have Internet connection. I have connection just fine, thats not the problem…

Here is the next page listed as “What if this didn’t work?”

Okay, privacy control isn’t even turned on…

I'm sorry that the Support Article did not help your problem.

Just a few thoughts on the matter:

1) Since this problem has just occurred and assuming you just updated Windows on Patch Tuesday, there is a possibility that one of the updates may have affected the way NIS 2005 is interacting with your ability to access webmail.

2) I don't remember enough about NIS 2005 to guide you through any further troubleshooting steps.

3) You may be able to get assistance through Customer Support here (Live Chat).

Please let us know how you do with this.

Looks like thats what its pointing too alright…hopefully someone else will chime in here with the same issue…

There is a possibility that someone else will have an idea, but not having the 2005 product installed and within view makes it difficult to provide a suggestion. If you remember, it even "threw" me when you mentioned "disable NIS". That function is now divided amongst different components in NIS 2009.

I think you may have the best chance of getting your issue resolved via Live Chat. They have a greater resource library for the previous versions.

But please, keep in touch.

Hi,

As Phil_D said, the best way to resolve this issue is to contact Live Support. Because many of us do not even rememeber the 2005 interface.

Before that, try the steps given below. It may work.

Download the Norton Connectivity Troubleshooter and save it to the Windows desktop.

(The download can take a minute or two.)

On the Windows desktop, double-click SymNCTS.exe.

Click Next, and follow the instructions.

If the above steps do not work, then try the steps given below.

 Delete Temporary Internet files

Open Internet Explorer.

On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

In the Temporary Internet Files section, click Delete Files.

Check Delete all off-line content. Click OK, Click OK again.

Turn off Ad Blocking and Pop-up Blocking in Norton Internet Security

Open Norton Internet Security.

On the left menu, click Norton AntiSpam.

On the right menu, click Ad Blocking.

Click Turn Off.

On the right menu, click Pop-up Blocking.
Click Turn Off.

Then check for the issue. Let us know the result.

Hello

Thanks for the replies, I'm probably just going to upgrade to the latest version....But had one question, whats the difference between Norton Internet Security 2009 and Norton 360 Version 3.0?  I looked at the comparison page and both columns had the same check marks for features....

Thanks

I appreaciate it... Baisc technologies are the same, Norton 360 has Backup and PC Tuneup as extra features.

Norton 360 Version 3.0 features.

Norton 2009 features.

Just a followup, still going to upgrade, but just wanted to let you know that turning off ad-blocking solved the problem.....

It still must have had something to do with patch Tuesday and I guess the way ad-blocking interacts with Yahoo mail....something must have started conflicting with each other......

By the way, don't think much of your word verification in order to post.  This is what I had to type in there this time:

Hi Sartori,

I'm glad you resolved the problem. The newer versions of NIS do not have any ad-blocking component, so I for one would not have thought of that.

The "CAPTCHA" verification is a security measure only required for newly registered members. If you continue to post, at some point it will no longer be required.

Let us know how you do with your installation.
