So this morning after booting, i notice the norton system tray icon has a red "x". when i open N369 i see a "your computer and network protections are At Risk" message. When i click the "Fix now" button, lists" Auto-protect, SONAR Protecition, Antispyware and incoming/outgoing email. but the result is a "not fixed" for each. i tried re-enabling autio protect manually, but still get the red x. also tried rebooting the pc. what else should i try? Now windows action center is giving me warnings about antivirus being "off".
the machine was fine yesterday. ran a live update last night. Any suggestions what i might try? i did try the get support, but ater the "check" it says it could find no issues.
thanks for the tip!! checked it out and time and date are correct. subscription status says i have 168 days left. It's weird that if i turn auto protect on manually, it will stay on then turn itself off. and the "fix now" button from the main menu will "process" but end with a "not fixed". trying to run a scan give the 'product inactive- go to main screen".

Hi -- I took a look at the contents of that link, and I do not think it applies in my case.
I do get a "your computer and network protections are At Risk" message.
I have gone over all my settings, and they are precisely as I choose to have them.
I would like to know how to turn that message off.
I have no interest in allowing the software to fix settings which are not broken, and have been specifically set.
[RANT ON]
I am also seeing, much too often, suggestions (not you specifically) to uninstall/reinstall Symantec/Norton's software to address an issue, which is really an insult to Norton's customers.
This is no different than the draconian suggestions offered, way back when, to reformat a perfectly fine drive and reinstall everything -- all offered as a solution to the problem.
Good programming skills and full documentation of that code is the solution. My guess is that some hotshot has implimented Extreme Programming to save time and money, and we are all the unpaid beta testers.

In this case, it is not just a message that is being displayed that you want to turn off. If you do have the same issue reported here, your protections have been turned off. When this issue raises it's head, the user is unable to get the protections turned back on.
Unfortunately, there is some interaction between the user's computer (Windows??) and Norton that ends up corrupting something in the installation. Even though I agree that being told to reinstall is PITA, it is the suggeston we have to give to get the system working again.

I understand that. I have no issues with my system aside from seeing the NIS tray icon with either a red x or exclamation point. Norton has a bad habit of believing that it always knows best, and I have found it to be the opposite (40+ years of active experience). I just want it my way on my system.
Regardless, I do appreciate what you are trying to do in a difficult situation. Thanks.
If your issue is that you have turned off a Norton component (such as Email Protection) and Norton is giving you an alert about it, you can configure Norton to ignore the changed setting. In Norton 360, this is done in the Administrative Settings under Product Security. Using Product State Monitoring you can tell Norton to ignore the On/Off status of certain features.

My software of choice is NIS (latest version) over Norton 360. Where would those settings be?
FWIW, Norton's security nullifies any need for email checking. It is a waste of resources, IMO and of many others.
In NIS, open Norton to the Advanced screen and hover your mouse pointer over Email Protection (or whatever component you disabled). You will get a popup with an option to "Ignore" the status of that setting. Click on "Ignore."

I have a similar issue. Recently I get a message that I have turned off my protection and my computer is at risk. My sys try icon has a red X however my Norton window shows everything is protected. Today I spent several hours on live chat with support and they were able to correct so far another issue I had. Now with this issue I don't know if I am protected or not. My 360 was removed and reinstalled twice today already

Do you now or have you ever had another security program on your computer? If so, you will have to remove it with the removal tool for that program.
