Has any seen Network Drives become available for local backips?
Hi @bjm
I agree that update 24.12.9694 has ENABLED LOCAL BACKUPS to LOCAL and/or REMOVABLE drives, however NETWORK DRIVES are STILL UNAVAILABLE.
My Z: Drive is not offered as a backup location which is available in File Explorer

No addition info was provided. Any thoughts?
No progress
I’m currently at ver. 23.12.9725 - build 24.12.9725.0 and when I try to open the cloud backup option as shown in your graphics, it just sits and spins. When I went to the first release of 24.12 a few days ago, it created additional folders in the backup folders on my external drives over several days. The folders matched the backup folders but without the curly brackets. Since then the external drive activity stopped, but the C: drives goes to 100% often for hours at a time and Norton Antivirus seems to be the culprit using lots of resources (CPU, disk, etc) while that’s happening.
I suggest you ask Norton Support (not that they have been overly helpful to me) See
bjm, thank you. This isn’t what I was getting, which was the busy worm that looked as if it was collecting files. I got there from the right side panel. However, that link isn’t there now, so I went to the “Security” link, opened the cloud backup, and, lo and behold, there it was, just as you show.
OK, I got the six backups that it found to finally work (at least I think they are working, there’s no feedback on what’s being backed up, only a progress bar. The problem is there are two other backups I had that do not show up. I may have to contact support, but that is confusing.
I’m trying to run Arestore.exe on one of the missing backup sets to see if that can make it appear. That didn’t work, no backup sets found.
The initial scans created the new directories for the missing backups, they just don’t show up in the app.
I thought I would add an update to several things.
For weeks after the bug fix update, I couldn’t get into the backup tab and Norton was chewing on an average of 15% of the CPU and constantly accessing the source and backup drives.
Finally it stopped and I got into the Local backup tab and found 6 out of 8 of my backup sets. The two that were missing were the first two in alphabetical order in the old interface. A quick comment here is that I had run LiveUpdate and it looked like it completed, then I had Norton “fix” the issue that the manual backups hadn’t been run in over a week. It was in the middle of the system backup set (most of the way through) when the window disappeared and several seconds later the new main window appeared.
I opened a ticket with support and the ticket has been escalated twice.
My gut feel at this point is that the System backup set (which is missing allow with the one after it in the old alphabetical list) was corrupted when it was killed by the update. When I run ARestore on that backup drive, it can’t find it. When I run ARestore on the backup drive that contains the other missing backup set, it finds it.
There are other issues:
Old backup sets that are working with the two separate file structures start running away at some point, burning up disk space on the backup drive (that’s happened with a couple backup sets).
I deleted and recreated a backup set for my most recent photographs and don’t like how it works. When I created I chose the Adobe Lightroom catalog file I wanted to backup and before I could add the folders I wanted to backup, the backup ran for a half an hour and show 0 KB when it finished. I then went in and selected the file again as well as the folders I wanted backed up and it ran again as soon as I finished the selection, this time for two hours and the results were what expected as far as space used. But I hate the fact that you get no feedback on what was backed up.
I see no way to verify what has been backed up or verifying if a file has been backed up or not (there used to be a Backup tab on the file properties).
I have updated the Norton ticket with these items, still waiting on the third level escalation team to get back to me.
