360 blocking remote access

2 things.

1. Logging on remotely to a work system. Suddenly we can't. Have been for years. No known changes by us. I have managed, by sheer luck, to find that the "thing that we need to use has a low trust level but cannot see how to change this. Firewall program rules tell me that this "application " is allowed but as soon as we open it and try to work within it we get a virus present and file deleted message.

There is no obviuos reason why this should be ahppening as all has been well for a while.

I know there is a system where we can report "false positives" but we do not understans the computer jargon used. We acaanot send a copy as asked.

2 . I have one PDf that is an attachment within an eamil that also gives the same message. Again these have been running for year. This is a payslip. I have been having these for years with no issue.

Problem 1 and 2 are not form any  sources that are even remotely connected.

My is running the same version of 360. They were installed the same day and all default settings were left as Norton suggested. That machine is fine.

Looking through firewall settings they are the same yet one computer is sifting them out when another isn't.

we wish to stop this.

Help please before I remove Norton. .

What version of 360 are you using? Click Support - About from the main 360 screen.

Be sure you have run LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available.

ver 20.4.0.40

checking for updates tells me that itis the latest.

Haven't run live update manually.

Why should I needed to?

Will have a go at that  but ??????

Ta so far

Just done live up date 6 times.

Each took a few seconds and no updates were found. Not asked to shut down or anything.

No progress.

Should I switch the windows firewall off? I have found from experience that all AV software objects to others. Tried to doing something with windows firewall to get an error message ox 8007042 and I cannot change anything there.

That in itself is new.

Have you restarted your system lately?

From #1 in your post, what is the "thing that we need"? Was the application recently installed, or updated on the problem system?

How long have you had the current V20.x.x.x (2013) version of 360 installed on the problem computer?

I had asked about the LiveUpdates, because if your system was working with older virus definitions, an update could have solved the issue.

Thing we need has been on for a couple of years at least. Way before any Norton application . It was happily running when Norton was first installed , in May this year and ran well until about Mid July.  That program hasn't changed or been updated. It is just some documents used at work. The access to them via the work system is show as allowed and we can open that bit, ie log in to work but not all the features that we were using.

Ditto my pdf' payslips. These have been fine for years and it was only in Mid August that another arrived that can't now be opened.

No change in the PDF system or suppliers system

Funnily enough my wife has reminded me that the day we installed 360 our own emails stopped having so many features such as auotcomplete of addresses etc.

You did not say whether you had restarted your system lately.

What email client are you using, or are you using web based email?

For the PDF problems, there May have been an update to Adobe products that may not have gone as they should. Try uninstalling your Adobe reader, and downloading a fresh copy from the Adobe web site.

If by restart you mean switch the Pc off then that happens daily.

email is web based and fine apart from that one PDF. Fresh adobe always installed as prompted and have also manually already tried anew version.

The work based feature is really just some software (I believe ) called Citrix which allows my wife to access her work documents at home. The soft thatsshe  then uses is stuff like Word, Outlook etc. All work perfect apart from this one situation.

It has been suggested that if we could identify the exact name of the things we ned then we could ask Norton to allow them but we cannot find that facility with Norton. ie allow that specifc file.

As I said another computer with a nominally identical set up id fine. I suspect it may be that the one causing the problems is the one that gets 90% of our use and that un planned alterations can be made by software without our intent. All updates as promoted by software makers are done as suggested.

Can you post a screenshot of the virus message?  Instructions to post screenshots can be found here

Can't add a pic of the message as I need to update Adobe.

Tried to do that as in the past and am not told that thats a virus as well

the message is as follows:

install_flashplayer11x32ax_chra_awa_aih.exe  contained a virus and was deleted.  In front of it is a red shield with a white cross on it . I followed the link from this site to Adobe so I assume that it is correct.

The message for the original issue that I was trying to show is as follows:

citrix.doc This file contained a virus and was deleted  Same red shield with white cross in front.

What are you trying to do when you are told to update Adobe Flash. You need Adobe Reader to read your PDF payslips.

If you follow the instructions I linked to for posting screenshots, you do not need anything but what comes with Windows. If you have Windows 7, you can use the Snipping tool as described in that link.

Do you now or have you ever had another security program on your computer? If so, you will have to remove it with the removal tool for that program.

Adobe has never been a problem until now. Payslips may be ok with older ones.

As soon as I try to post that screen shot I was asked for Adobe.

Unaware that Adobe had different versions until now. I just click on upgrade when asked and until now it works. I will keep trying/.

1 issue I had was that edit wasn't shown in Paint. Never used it so no idea.

The minute I click on the tree icon above I am told that I need Adobe Flash player.

You did not reply to my question of whether you have, or have had any other security software on your system. If so, that needs to be fully removed to be compatible with Norton.

The flash player is necessary for the Lithium Forum software to function. Where did you try to download the Flash Player software? You need to get it from Adobe.com.

See if you can uninstall Flash Player using Windows Control Panel - Programs, then re download and install fresh.

To my knowledge no other security software is installed. McAffe was removed before Norton was installed.

Is there likely to be any Windows feature that needs dealing with?

The Windows firewall is disabled.

Flash download was from Adobe. I tried to upload the screen clip and was asked by this forum to get an updated Adobe product. I followed the link provided and thats where it stopped and my PC told me that Adobe flash was a virus.

A thought. If I remove flash and then the pc won't let me download it again I am left without it . At the moment I have an instalation that seems to work apart from here. What does Flash do?

Just to be sure McAfee was fully removed, go to this link to find the McAfee Removal utility. Run it to make sure all remnants of the software have been removed.   http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN146

Instead of clicking on a link to get the Flash download, try navigating directly to Adobe .com and get the Flash player download. Once you have the download, you can remove Flash from Windows without worry about the download.

Be sure you restart the computer between the uninstall and the reinstall.

This is getting silly. Can't delete any remaining McAfee as the "thing " that removes this is called a virus! I'll keep at it.

Just been straight to the Adobe website and still get the same message. my PC thinks its is a virus.!:smileymad:

Or I can send a word doc.
