Issue abstract: I installed Norton VPN on my Google TV Streamer box from the app store. When I scan the QR code, I get a message that activation failed. Try again later by scanning the QR code.
Detailed description: I scan the QR code, log in on my phone and everything goes through fine, but when the streamer app refreshes, I get an activation error.
Product & version number: Norton VPN Google streamer app v 1.0.0
OS details: android tv os 14
What is the error message you are seeing?
Activation failed. Please try again later
The reviews on the Google Play Store are full of the same complaint about the QR code not working to activate the app.
My contact is looking into this. The last I heard, they thought it was something to do with the subscriptions you have active. The VPN feature for smart TVs is only available if you have a subscription to the standalone Norton Secure VPN. If you have a Norton 360 subscription, the QR code seems to be only picking up that subscription even if you also have a standalone subscription.
Either the Norton employee or myself will post into the thread I linked when there is any news on this.
Any update on this I’ve just bought the 360 for five devices and the whole point was to be able to install it on any device that I want and this is totally annoying to go from having it active on my streamer to not having it active at all
This is absolutely ridiculous it’s still not working being a paid product. I just ran into this issue myself with the constant activation failure on my Apple TV. FIX IT Norton!!! Your system always works 24/7 at taking people’s money real fast, yet you let this drag on when people paid for this service. TERRIBLE!!!
@FattiesGoneWild Is your Apple TVOS version 17.0 or better? If not that is the cause of your activation issue. If you DO have the required version could you post a screenshot of the activation failure ( editing any personal information from it ) for reviews? TIA.
@peterweb Anything being reported by Norton? This is backend on their part. Customers have the correct TVOS version requirements and the stand alone app. Thanks in advance.
Can the posters here confirm whether they have an active standalone Norton Secure VPN subscription? And if so, do they also have an active subscription to Norton 360? Currently, that is the latest info I have received is that when trying to register with the QR code, the system picking up the 360 subscription which does not support the installation on Smart TVs.
I have Norton 360 Premium with 10 devices limit. The separate Norton VPN app alone works fine on my iPhone. Are you saying, Norton blocked smart TV’s from using the separate Norton VPN app with a 360 Premium license?!?! If so, that is extremely shady and not right!!!
I’m not saying anything about Norton knowingly blocking 360 users . All I am saying is that my Norton contact was suggesting that this might be happening. I’m still waiting for some feedback.
Your Norton 360 subscription cannot be used to install Norton VPN on your Smart TV. You need to have Norton VPN Standard with multi-device subscription, or Norton VPN Plus or Norton VPN Ultimate subscription to install Norton VPN on your Smart TV.
Absolutely ridiculous they block smart TV’s on purpose!
The new standalone Norton Secure VPN products added features such as the Smart TV protection and more control over virtual locations adding choice of cities, that the 360 VPN never had. So it was not an issue of blocking anything with 360.
