NIS 2012
Vista Home premium
I know the majority if answers will be I should update or I need to reinstall my norton
But I’m wondering if it is a norton issue really
Seemed to have worked ok until this last Friday and then no quick scans after def updates on sat sun or mon
Wondering if my PC is not going I to an idle state?
But then I see people like flopot who also gets this issue from time to time

We’ll yes and no
It seems like the issue returned. My PC is on 24/7 for the most part. There is all day when we are at work where it should have some idle time
Anyone know how I can see the time setting for when he PC goes idle ?
Ok I just noticed something
When I look at that norton graph that shows CPU usage and norton usage the is no segment that says idle for the last 5 days
So maybe my PC has not been idle
Which is weird since it’s on all the time and nobody is on it during the day or late at night. You would think it would have some idle time
Is there a way one could designate idle time?
... Restarting a computer once in a while never did it any harm.
But I have
Several times in last few days
Ok did another reboot
We’ll hope it will work
Hi, Calls. I guess when your computer is on 24/7, something is always gonna be phoning home. ?????
Mine is switched off at the end of the day, as I have no need for it to be running all the time.
Hello
My computer is on 24/7, but I never had skipped idle quick scans not running until recently. I have most updates for programs set to manual like for adobe flash and those types of programs. Norton though is set to automatck live updates. I have Windows updates set to let me know when there are any, but I usually end up checking for them myself--like I found one that came out today for Win 7 64bit pro which was marked important. So I installed that one....Since my computer is on all the time, any calling home by programs have plenty of time to do it when I'm not using the computer. I have noticed that the one that usually runs while I am sleeping does run and the one that comes in the evening usually does it's scan also. For me the troublesome one seems to be the one that comes around noontime.. Since my idle time countdown is only a minute and the scan takes less than a minute, I would think there is plenty of time when it coud run.
The answer isn't in the other thread that is marked as solved since the problem is still ongoing at times....
Flo,
Thanks for the tip about the Windows update.

I am getting automatic symantec up dates so
I’m thinking my issue has to do with my PC not going into idle time. It was fine until 4/18 but since then I show no idle time in my NIS performance graph
Not sure why that changed
Anyone know how I can set the PC to go into idle time?
I have vista home premium 32 bit

Hi Calls,
1. Dumb question: is your mouse working properly? No even slight movements at all?
2. From some google searches which however gave results only for Windows 7, this issue could be also due to the system power state and it is suggested - in Windows 7, as already said - to use the command "powercfg -energy" which will scan the system and give a full report on the power state, with a list of any errors or warnings in the output, and there should be the option to restore the default power settings.
I don't know it this applies to Windows Vista too, so please wait for advices from more knowledgeable Members.

How do you mean about the mouse? Like that if it’s real sensitive it might keep the PC from going into idle time?
Well the reboot didn’t help the situation
Ran a sfc /scannow and rebooted
We’ll see if that helped
" How do you mean about the mouse? Like that if it's real sensitive it might keep the PC from going into idle time?"
Mouse and keyboard activity are two major factors preventing the pc from going idle.
If the mouse is especially a Wireless USB mouse, some models broadcast a message every 5 minutes, and this message release is considered by Norton as an exit- from- idle state. (or non-enter)
So, if you want to make sure that the pc goes idle, you should turn off the switch from the bottom face of your mouse.
Regards,
The only way I am getting an idle quick scan to run is on external power. Same with another computer in my house. Won’t run when on battery
" The only way I am getting an idle quick scan to run is on external power. Same with another computer in my house. Won't run when on battery"
You can configure it to run when on battery too. (ONLY Auto LiveUpdate).
Regards,
I have done that. Still won’t run. I’m not too bothered. Just thought it might be a reason why they are not running
Hi,
Only Auto LiveUpdate will run on battery and I think it's by design.
I'm not even sure even if Pulse Updates are installed, as I think ALU should run only after a few hours just to install only important updates like Virus defs, IPS etc.

Here is the KB on External/Internal Power:
https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v54476892_N360_N360RET_2014_en_us
Please be sure to read the adddtionallinks at the bottom in red and BTW - each of the Norton Tasks are indivdually selectable for Ext/Int power. The Identity Safe Maintenace is defaulted to Internal power - but can not be changed anyway as it is grayed out.
