Hi MeryGi,

Thanks for the link, but there is no audio :smileysurprised:, can you confirm this or perhaps something doesn't work correctly with the clip?

Thanks,

Laura

Hi Laura,

the video doesn't include audio :smileywink:.

I often see a label No Audio on news sites when this is so, if that is in the system capabiltiy.

I also found the image very blurred when I went to Full Screen in order to be able to follow what was happening.

Most of the time at YouTube, going to Full Screen is not a problem.

As said, this mini-tutorial is rather blurred.

I'll give the ABC check a try and see how it goes .. I'm so used to the regular Spell Check ...

I can see that the video quality isn't great. Our intent is to give the Community a better understanding of what this new tool can do and I hope that this tutorial can help.

Glad to hear that you will give it a chance :smileyhappy:. Your comments are truly helpful to understand what we need to focus on.

Thanks!

MeryGi

Hello Everyone,

the ABC checker helps you write posts that can be automatically translated for a global audience: broader distribution means more kudos and better answers.

Would you recommend the use of this tool on other platforms?

Keep the feedback coming!

Hi,

How does it work and where would I use it?

Hi Dick,

You can check your post by clicking on the ABC icon of the editor. After clicking on the icon, a window will appear. In this way the spelling, grammar and style of your text will be checked.

The results will be displayed in a pop-up window where potential spelling, grammar or stylistic problems will be underlined. A green underline brings up suggestions that you can decide to use. In more complex cases, suggestions are not available, and the red underline gives some advice on grammatical or stylistic recommendations. At any time you can decide whether or not make any changes by clicking “Apply”.

Also a help window will appear if you click on the question mark.

I hope this helps :smileyhappy:

MeryGi

MeryGi,

I got the basics. I was more interested in the translation part and how it works and where I could use that feature.

Thanks

Is any automatic translating still being done?  ‎02-25-2013 10:32 AM seems to be the most recent.

Hi Dick,

The ABC checker helps to increase the quality of the English posts to facilitate automated translations of these posts in other languages in the future. Our hope is to broaden the impact of these posts across other languages: your contributions will reach a wider audience and we will also help those that are non-native English speakers to submit quality English contributions and share information.

MeryGi

Understood!

Hi MeryGi,

The ABC checker could be a useful tool provided it worked properly, but it doesn't.

I’m referring in particular to the grammar check, here is a screenshot of what it suggested when I used ABC to check a post a few days ago:

ABC Checker.PNG 18KB

As you can see,

My sentence was

"I hope you can find there the way to fix…"

ABC checker suggested to replace “find there the way” with either finds there the way or find there the ways.

Both suggestions are incorrect, the first one is terrible, as it would read …can finds ?!

FWIW

Cheers,

Laura

P.S. I checked this message with ABC before posting. It keeps giving the same suggestions:

Hi Hugh,

We are looking into it. We will be back with a more specific reply once we have an update on it.

Thank you,

MeryGy

Hi Laura,

Thank you for this report. We are going to figure out what the problem is. This is a first version of the checker that will be improved soon, so we really appreciate feedback (positive or negative) and suggestions :smileywink:

Thank you,

MeryGi

Thanks MG -- I've been wondering for a while but never got round to asking.

As demonstrated, the grammer checker has a monumental task to try to accomplish. The same phrase can mean different things in different context.

.

I may not be perfect  :smileyembarrassed: :smileytongue:   but I feel I know better than any grammer checker I have tried.

Peterweb,

That's cheating - your a real indelligence rather than an artificial intelligence :smileywink:
