Anti Spam

Has anyone tried and failed to activate Anti Spam?  Anti Spam is 'on', but while the Client Integration button shows Outlook, it is 'off' and disabled (so I can't set it to 'on').

Norton Support has been useless so far in resolving my issue.  Lots of promises that level 2 support will call, but they don't.  Quite pathetic.

I'm using Windows 11 and Norton 360 Delux

Hi Wikipedian,

The answer is present in your query itself. If you don't use email client, there is no chance for any spam email to get downloaded in your computer. So, turning on/off AntiSpam has nothing to do with the security of your computer. AntiSpam is only useful when you use any email client.

Yogesh

But everytime I try to turn it off Norton says it "reduces the protection of your computer".

That’s only because Norton is used to machines using mail clients

If you are using NIS 2009/2010, you can ignore that status of disabled AntiSpam component. As Stu posted above, AntiSpam is a critical component for those using Email Clients.  For Norton, AntiSpam should be enabled for providing the complete protection irrespective of whether you are using any email client or not. I’m not sure why you want to keep it disabled when you don’t even use any Email client.

Which email client and version do you use?

Norton products support only Outlook Express 6 on XP, Windows Mail on Vista, and Office Outlook from version 2002 to 2007.

So, what you are saying is that Norton Anti-Spam 2010 is keep on asking you what you wish to do regarding the Detection of Spam e-mails?   If so, you can change how the E-Mail Anti-Virus and Anti-Spam works by changing the Settings, which are located in the "Network Settings".

Are you sure you have installed NIS 2011. If it is NAV 2011, you cannot find AntiSpam as this is not available with NAV.

Definitely NIS 2011 - Ver. 18.6.0.029.  I had it on original installation, but after reinstalling (following 2012 beta), there are no tracks of Anti-Spam.

I think we can do an uninstall/Reinstall of 2011. That may help you get the AntiSpam function back. You can download and run the Norton Removal Tool from:

http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20100423023225EN

Then search and delete the Norton and Symantec files. Make sure that you take a backup of Identity Safe before you uninstall it. Then install the 2011 version.

Have uninstalled and reinstalled.  Still no Anti Spam under Network Settings.

What was installed before you did the initial install of NIS? And, how was it removed?

Initially had NIS 2010, then NIS 2011, then beta 2012, then NIS 2011 again.  Initially removed with Uninstall Program, then Norton Removal Tool.

Hello armed,

I'm sorry to hear of your problem.

The issue may have been caused by the NIS2012 Beta version.   If you made a system image of your computer before installing the Beta version, I would suggest reverting back to that image.

Let us know.

As Phil_D mentioned the problem is NIS2012. The removal tool isn't up to date for cleaning up after beta software. Restoring to a version before the install of 2012 is the only way, currently, that you can be sure that all traces of 2012 are removed. Once 2012 to released the removal tool will be updated and it will clean up after 2012.

Sorry I can't give you better news :smileysad:

Thanks all.  Believe I have a pre-Beta system version of NIS 2010.

The version of NIS2010 or 2011 that you download now will be fine. The problem is still the beta version of NIS2012. If all of its bits and pieces are not removed - usually be restoring the system to a point prior to the first installation of the beta - it can still corrupt your new installation of NIS 2010 or NIS 2011.

Let us know it more assistance is needed

Hi Computec,

Can you please let us know what Norton product (NIS/N360) you are using? Also, can you provide us the version number of your norton product, OS specification(OS Version, Service Pack) and Outlook version?

If a mail does not go into Spam folder,  you can select that mail and click on "This is Spam" button in the Outlook NAS Toolbar. That will move the mail to the Junk Folder. Or if you do not want any of the mails from a specific sender, then add the sender's email id to Bolcked Senders List in AntiSpam Settings. Then the messages from this sender should automatically be redirected to Junk Folder.

If you have already tried the above options but you don't find any of them working, then please tell us where exactly you find the issue. That will help us narrow down on the issue. Thanks!

Welcome

A little more information will make it easier to help you.

What email client are you using?

Was this working properly before your 'new 360'?

What operating system and service pack are you running?

I am running Outlook Express, everything worked great before downloading the new version and running XP, not sure what service pack. Do not know how to determine that.

Thanks
