Sunday morning Norton auto updated to 24.9.9452.995. Not a good experience. First a pop-up from Norton, I think, saying it was updating, then Norton tray icon red cross, then a large blank box middle of screen which disappeared shortly after. Installation then finished – done a couple of manual LUD’s & restarts – red cross still in tray Icon. Hovering over icon ‘You are not protected’, opened Norton, ‘You.are still protected’. Windows Security said there was an issue. Everything else seemed to be working OK but evidently, an issue somewhere.
Turned computer off for an hour, then Edge would NOT load, it was before, just sat there ‘loading’, red X still in tray icon still. At that time, in Trouble Shooting, two options, one of which was REMOVE. Clicked, that started Norton NRnR which then came up with an error. Tried stand-alone NRnR that came up with error.
Removed through Windows Uninstaller, rebooted – Edge working OK immediately. From Norton Account, ‘Install on new computer’ downloaded a set-up file, ran & 234.9.9452.995 installed, Norton tray icon no red cross now, main Norton window now ‘You are protected’ as opposed to ‘You.are still protected’ – Edge working OK. Trouble shooting now shows ‘Repair’ option instead of ‘Remove’ and a second option, which I forget what that was.
Now, this morning, Software Updater notification 3 items need updating, 2 of which are MS OS items,. The other is Firefox which I know about & awaiting the final clean release. I have SW auto updater turned off, before SW updater could be turned off completely., I do not want Norton interfering with my OS or Apps. Now if I require to remove or remove & reinstall, how is this done now as NRnR does not work. Norton, please give users the option to revert back to the old version of Norton 360 – that worked OK. Afraid of what will happen on next update, will that work properly?
Various comments on forum that this update has BUGS, certainly it has – not impressed at all, useful features & info that were there before have been removed.
