I'm using Vista x64 on a Gateway GT5426E computer with NIS 2012, recently upgraded to NIS 2013. After the upgrade, I rebooted and got the BSOD with the message "process has locked pages" (0x00000076) caused by a driver with the name BHDrvx64.sys. Google says this is Symantec's file. So, before I uninstall NIS, does this file really belong to NIS? If so, doesn't Norton know about it by now? If so, then why am I having this problem?
After the first BSOD, I rebooted to last known configuration, and this worked to let Windows load w/o a BSOD. I left it and let it stand overnight, got back to it in the morning, and I saw an unrelated error message and closed the box, and then another BSOD. And now I get the BSOD every single time I reboot.
I need help here. I'm gonna reboot to last known config again and after the reboot, look around.

Hi, Peter, the APC Battery Backup (the UPS) has a warning, but that's because it doesn't work in safe mode. Quite norm,al, and it is fine (no warning) in normal mode. And I isolated the problem to BHDrvx64.sys file; what was happening is this system file, after loading, is not releasing the memory space and causes the BSOD because Windows cannot start. And the file is indeed a system file that belongs to Symantec's NIS program.
So I uninstalled NIS 2013 in safe mode, and windows booted normally. No more BSODs!
Doesn't completely solve the problem, because now I'm going to try re-installing NIS again.
You guys (Norton) have a *serious* problem, it appears.
Related was the SearchProtocolHost.exe and SearchIndexer.exe, IOW, too many hard disk I/O operations running. That's solved, too.
That's where I am now. So, I will try installing NIS 2013 and see what happens. If no resulting problems, NIS is susceptible to too many hard disk processes running in 64bit Vista. If the same BSOD results, it's a separate and unrelated problem.

Well, now, it's the latter: a separate and unrelated problem.
Norton Utilities 14 prevented the NRT from running, even though I already uninstalled it from its own uninstallation program (sheesh--I have to run another tool to remove that? I thought.)
Now I can re-install NIS 2012, but hestitate because I want to re-install NIS 2013 instead using the product key that I got from NIS 2012. Can I do that? ...since it's an upgrade, anyway.

If you want to install 2013, you can just log into your Norton Account and click on the Download button beside your current subscription. This will download and install a preactivated version of your product.
One thing to note, if you want to use the local version of Identity Safe as opposed to the online version, you will have to install the 2012 version first. Establish that the local vault is working, then you can click on Support - Check for New Version. Then follow the instructions. That will allow you to continue to use the local vault.

Anyhow, the install of NIS 2012 (preactivated) failed due to the same BSOD, same issue.
In the post you referenced, the OP's problem was BSOD's popping up after a successful boot. My problem is always a BSOD during boot, after Windows loads.
In my start menu are these entries:
Note the empty folder above. The NIS 2012 installation was claimed to be successful before reboot. This was the situation with NIS 2013 installation also. So where do we go from here?
This whole thing started when I attempted to upgrade to NIS 2013 through a "check for new version" routine in my NIS 2012 application. The events that occurred before this come to mind, but I have to think (remember) what transpired.

When you use the Download link in your Norton Account, it will download the latest version of the product, preactivated with your current subscription key. At this time, this will be the 2013 versions of the products.
It seems this has failed on you again.
Have you checked your Windows installation.
Try running sfc.exe /scannow from an elevated command prompt.
OK, I understand now. The upgrade mechanism is more integrated and streamlined than I thought, but my Account page didn't indicate this. Good to know, though.

Long story short: I finally solved this problem (a whole myriad of problems), and NIS is successfully installed.
In the beginning, my registry got corrupted after a windows auto-update. I restored it through system restore point through my OS installation CD, but it screwed up NIS 2012. So, I attempted to install a NIS upgrade to the current version. Then I started getting BSODs (process_has_locked_pages error) caused by BHDrcx64.sys, which belongs to NIS. Then I ran SFC, and that's where Ieft off my last post here. I ran another SFC, which fixed all the problems, and ran another and another. But it didn't get rid of the BSODs, and I also got more varied BSOD crashes along the way, so I backed up my data on my second internal drive and formatted the C: drive and reinstalled Vista Ultimate x64.
Then I hit yet another snag. SP1 wouldn't install correctly through windows auto-update... well, it installed "correctly," showing in "view update history" that installation was "successful," but it never actually got installed, because it installed very quickly (about less than a minute as opposed to hour or so). So I manually downloaded and installed SP1 instead of letting the auto-update mechanism do it for me. Then I finally installed SP2 manually, which was required to be able to finally install NIS.
