Browsers don't open certain web pages!

To clarify a bit, Malwarebytes' full version has IP Protection which blocks access to blacklisted sites.  This appears to be distinct from the real-time anti-malware protection and needs to be turned off separately.  In a Malwarebytes' forum thread I that found it is confirmed that IP Protection does block Gigapedia.  More on IP Protection here:

Hi SendOfJive,

It is good to know something like this was added. However I want to clarify something, you are saying this is present in the full version, but not the FREE version correct? This should not be enabled on the FREE version. Something like this is under the umbrella of real-time protection which should not be there in the free version.

Just want to clarify this as it is not completely clear in your wording. :smileywink: The free version does not have this which is what we always recommend running alongside NIS, NAV, N360 or other real-time security products.

Hello SendOfJive & AllenM

Just want to clarify...for myself and OP and anyone with Full Version MBAM.

My read of the [INFO] IP Protection ...The OP did have the option to add an IP so it won't be detected and can access the sites OP needed to access... quote:

How can I add an IP so it won't be detected and can access a site I need to?
This has now been implemented. Visit the blocked site and incur an IP block. Then right-click on the Malwarebytes system-tray icon after the block notification appears, and choose Add to Ignore List and the IP.

OP issue aside...any MBAM user with the Full Version of MBAM may still individually Disable the 2 distinct  Real Time features -1) AntiMalware - 2) IP Protection...AND still retain MBAM Auto-Updates.  Some users may wish to support MBAM or may wish Auto-Updates.  It's great MBAM offers a FREE Version...but, some user may wish to support the apps that are recommended so frequently on these boards.  MBAM Full Version with Real Time AntiMalware & IP Protection Disabled will NOT conflict with Norton.  Do you both concur....?   Supporting MBAM or SAS is not contrary to the Norton Community.  The Community recommends MBAM / SAS do not run in Real Time.  It is OK to support MBAM.

Do you concur ?

By your read ... Do you both concur with my read of [INFO] IP Protection

Thanks

Hello

People can get the free version and give a donation to the companies equal to the cost of  the program. The auto-updates to the program with the other real time options disabled isn't really accomplishing anything then. It's only one click of a button to run the update part of the program. The same thing holds true with SAS. Get the free program and give a donation equal to the cost and avoid any possible conflicts that may arise.

Hello floplot

OK...that's a viable alternative....but, for the user that has already paid for Full Version as apparently the OP has.  Just wanted to clarify for myself and OP and perhaps others.  That Full Version may be retained with restrictions to Real Time protection features.

Thanks for adding the option to donate to the companies.  You are very wise my friend.

Oh! and I wanted to offer the OP that an easy solution was apparently available thnx to SendOfJive

The OP did have the option to add an IP so it won't be detected and can access the sites OP needed to access...

Cheers

IP Protection is only available in the paid version of Malwarebytes'.  While the real-time anti-malware component of the full (paid) version would possibly conflict with Norton's Auto-Protect, and should therefore be disabled, I don't believe the same is true of IP Protection.  The site blocking feature appears to be based on a blacklist of known bad sites, and would therefore offer passive, rather than real-time, protection.  This could probably be left on with no issues, other than a possible occasional double-alert whenever IP Protection and Norton Safe Web both agreed on a bad site.  I could be wrong about this, but based on my reading of the information at Malwarebytes' IP Protection seems to be completely based on a blocklist rather than anything using heuristics or signatures to detect actual threats.

Hello SendOfJive

Thnx for your continued interest...

So, the use of the MBAM IP Protection - paid version - would not perhaps (noted caveat as per your read) pose a conflict with Norton ...the same way Firefox browser option: Block reported attack sites: does not conflict as it is also passive.  Similiar perhaps to WOT.  But, of course not similiar to Internet Explorer Smart Screen Filter which does use heuristics or signatures to detect actual threats.

Kudos

Thnx
