Can't install Norton Ghost 15.0 - error 1935

I recently rebuilt my HTPC with a Win7 x64 OS.  I am completely patched - SP1, etc.  I would like to install Norton Ghost 15.0 to image the drive and after running with administrator privs, it gets nearly 100% complete but throws up an error 1935 - specifically 0-800736B5 error.

I've perused some forums and used the Norton Removal tool to completely erase the failed installs.

I've uninstalled an reinstalled the .net packages and then updated via Windows update.

I've also downloaded the version from Symantec's site to do a clean install - thinking something might be wrong with my version.

Everything is fine but I can't get it to install.

Any help folks?

Deric, I'm confused...I purchased the product via download so...burn the product to a bootable ISO then boot from it to install the product?  I'm not trying to backup right now - I'm trying to install it on my HTPC.

Yes I fully understand what you are trying to do, I suggested to try a cold backup for two reasons, 1) to make sure that you have a backup of the pc as it stands and 2) to check that the software is ok.

You don't have to boot from the cd to install it, only to run a "Cold" backup.

If the ISO has been burnt properly onto CD then it should install from Windows.

When you boot from the CD and you get to the recovery window you can click on analyze to see if Ghost can see your internal and external drives.

Deric, it's a brand new install.  I do not have a backup.

Additionally, would a cold boot allow me to install the program?  I'm not sure why it's necessary to confirm Norton see's my drives as there are only two - both internal, both standard SATA (nothing special, no special drivers, etc.)

I just want to get past the error 1935 install problem.

What is the complete error?  There are several causes for this error, and I need the rest of the error to match it up. Maybe you can take a screen shot?

Thanks andreash,

I have no idea what that error number 1935 refers to, I will leave it with you.

A "cold" backup will ensure that you have your pc safe so that you can experiment, and if things go wrong you don't have to reload the O/S and Apps, in other words it is a safeguard.

A cold boot doesn't install the software it will just back up your pc onto an Internal drive or an external drive whatever you choose and because it is a brand new "clean" install all the more reason to back it up.

The "recovery points" created by the "cold" backup will be used to recover the computer but of course it won't resolve the error. I am sure andreash will sort out the error and advise accordingly.

Please find attached a file capture.txt (it's a screenshot .png but I can only post logs, txt, etc.) and MS won't let me copy the error message (can't highlight txt).

You'll have to rename it to capture.png

Use the imageuploader.gif button to add the picture inline.

capture.png

Click the Start button, then run, and type REGEDIT, and click OK. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control.  When on the folder Control, do you see a value in the right frame 'RegistrySizeLimit'?

I did a search for that code and found THIS PAGE.

It talks about damaged .NET framework.

I found this download tool Here might be of some use.

P.S. Some great brains on this forum! Thanks all for your knowledge.

Sorry, no such key in my registry.  Any other ideas?

Tried the tool - requires you to purchase.  No thanks.

Saw these, that's why I uninstalled and reinstalled all the .net frameworks.  To no avail.

redk9258 suggested this earlier....

Click start > run and type services.msc. In the services console, enable the Windows Modules Installer Service. Set it to Startup Type: Automatic, then click start. Retry the install.

One more thing I found that resolved another Ghost installation issue like this:

  1. Click on "Ok" on the error message.
  2. The installation process will roll back.
  3. Go to "C:\Windows\".
  4. Locate "Installer" folder and rename it to "Installer_old".
  5. Create a new folder named "Installer".
  6. Initiate the Ghost 15 installation one more time.
  7. After the installation is complete, click on "Yes" to restart the machine.
  8. After the machine restarts, copy the contents of the newly created "Installer" folder into the "Installer.old".
  9. Now delete or rename the "Installer" folder and rename "Installer.old" back to "Installer".

Worked like a charm!  Hope others who have the same error can find this solution.

Much thanks.

So then there is something wrong with one of the files in the C:\Windows\Installer folder?
