Started a NIS 2012 full compuer scan before I went to bed last night. It's still running this morning and is not near done. NIS 2011 full scan ran about 2.5 hours. 2012 has been running over 8 hours and it's still running.

I don't do full scans since I consider them a waste of time and resources (anything bad will be picked up by autoprotect anyway), but I can imagine it taking several times longer as well.
Not true, I have over 500 GBs data on my three HDDs and I see significantly better performance with NIS 12, shorter full system scan, better response from NIS, the quick scan is about the same.

OS? XP have a shorter scan time for some strange reason.
My scan is still running at over 9 hours now. Judging by where it is in the scanning, it looks like it could run for another 3 hours. That would be over 12 hours to do a complete scan as opposed to a complete scan with NIS 2011, which took 2.5 hours.
Maybe I have a bad install? I did the upgrade from NIS 2011 to NIS 2012.

Yes - true. Reported elsewhere as well, much longer scan times with 2012, especially the "quick" scan.

Dual boot with Win Xp Pro and Win 7 Pro. Both 32bit.
Same with my laptop, Win 7 64bit.

There are always some people with perfomance problems, in general, NIS 12 is faster than NIS 11. You are just the unlucky one.

Incorrect. Quick scans are slower with 2012 than with 2011. We have a large number of computers updated now, and it's the same all over. There is not anything "unlucky" about it, or anything with my system(s).
NIS 2012 is running just fine in all other areas, though. Boot time actually DEcreased to 17000 ms on my main system.
Quick scans are taking around 7 minutes for me. Turned off intelligent skip scanning and using full definitions. Also the reduction in boot time could be due to boot time protection now turned off by default.
I set boot protection back to normal the first I did, the same as it was with NIS 2011. So it's definitely booting a bit faster, with the same boot settings. :) Used to boot in 20-22 seconds with NIS 2011, now it's 17-18 seconds, nothing else changed.
Full scan finally ended. NIS 2012 took 9:07 compared to 2:05 with NIS 2011.
Apparently I have something configured incorrectly to cause this. I set "default all" before running the full scan. I know I had gotten some "tweaks" for NIS 2012 on this forum, but the settings for NIS 2012 are not all the same.
Spotteddog - I can only think that you reinstall NIS 2012 and before running a FULL system scan, run a FULL Reputation Scan.
I must admit, on a HDD, NIS 2012 scans (be-it Quick or Full) do take longer compared to NIS 2011. I also see that NIS 2012 scans more files than NIS 2011 use to, something else that does contribute to scanning time.
On my machine the Quick Scan time increased by 56 % (from 1 min 27 s to 3 min 20 s), yet the Full Scans are only up by 18 % (from 28 min 40 to 35 min 10 s). I do agree though that the boot up time for my machine has decreased (by how much, not sure, but I do notice a difference).
Also, how did you install NIS 2012? Did you use the download manager, or did you install the .exe installer file from; www.norton.com/nis12 ? I have never liked the idea of using the download manager and so my version of NIS 2012 was installed using the .exe installer file.

I was talking about general performance...The Quick scan in NIS 12 isnt any slower, it checks for more threats, areas and rootkits. That is the reason why it takes "longer".
JW,
I installed with the downloard manager.
I tried to ran the full reputation scan, but it said that it couldn't connect to the Norton server, so it ended after only a few minutes.
My guess would to be uninstall NIS 2012 and then reinstall from the .exe installer (which I just downloaded). That's what I always did before.
Do you think I can just uninstall and reinstall NIS 2012, or should I really run the cleanup tool, etc, first?
Reputation full scan cannot connect despite going down the full reinstall route using the downloaded exe from www.Norton.com/nis12. http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Reputation-scan-cannot-cannot-to-Internet-on-Win7/td-p/526780
Link dead as the url is counting the period. Url is www.Norton.com/nis12 (no period).

For uninstalling and reinstalling NIS correctly, see this link;
I know it is for NIS 2011, but the method still applies.
However, DarkSta just posted a link to a similar issue with Reputation Scan - I shall try doing a FULL reputation scan and see what happens. If I can get the same issue then there is an issue overall, despite whichever installation method one uses. I shall be back soon! ;)
EDIT: Just ran a FULL Reputation Scan, not issues whatsoever, posted reply at;
J_W.
Jw run full system scan and reboot pc. That should trigger the problem. If not run help and support and then reboot.
