If you delete the backup set in your Norton product, it will not delete the files in the online storage unless you choose the option to remove the backup set and all files.
What you can do now is log into your Norton Account and click on the Cloud Storage pillar. Then click on View Backup Sets. Then find the backup set you wish to remove and click on the trash can beside it. That will free up the storage space for you.

Yes in a way. I do not want to purchase storage space in Norton Cloud, What I need is to deactiv4 or completely stop Norton Cloud from automatically backing up. I have other means of backup and do not need a Norton Backup Drive in my PC. I do not either want to bother deleting or cleaning backup files every time it (quickly) runs out of space. Norton is deliberately making very hard to stop this feature so you are tempted to buy cloud storage. We should have control on whether we ant or not this feature to be operational. Not happy at all. However, someone may have knowledge of to stop that and get rid of the Norton Backup Drive in my PC. I am not talking of deleting backed-up files or folders from the cloud, but stopping it from backing up, full stop. I also tried to create Norton's Backup to be not in their cloud but in an external drive I connect to the PC. The icon shows up, but when I click on it there is nothing to restore (i.e., no files were backed up). It is just a headache. The other protection services are, however, excellent.

the files on your PC will remain intact.
In the Delete Backup Set window, do one of the following:
- To delete the current backup set, select Delete backup set.
To delete the current backup set and purge the files already backed up, select Delete backup set and files.

Delete backup set...think backup settings/instructions - think What | Where | When
- what files to back up, where you want them backed up, and when you want the backup to run -
Delete backup set and files...think backup settings/instructions and the files already backed up with those backup settings/instructions.
