So I was bored this morning and decided to install Safety Minder on my desktop. (Vista 64 Ultimate) Never had it on there as the kids do not use it. As expected, I installed Safety Minder and set up for one of my kids and Toontown did not load. HOWEVER. I made up a new child "Phantom Child" and changed the computer to be their computer and Toontown now loads. Switch it back to my daughter's account and Toontown will not load. Switch back to "Phantom Child" and Toontown loads. Switch back to my daughter and Toontown loads.
SAY WHAT?! Switch back to "Phantom Child" and Toontown will not load.
I leave it on Phantom Child for a while and try three logins.... fail, fail, fail. I click on "Edit Accounts" and log in but do not actual change anything. I hit OK Try again (Still on Phantom Child)... success! Wow. What is going on here? Still works. Change to my daughter again. fail once, succes second. Wow. I am clueless.
I'm going to try this on the laptop Matt was collecting data from and see what happens. At first I thought I was not waiting long enough for Norton Online Family to update the rules after I changed accounts.
A nice feature would be for the parent to know which child was actually logged on to the computer - the pawprint does not tell me and I have to actually log in to know it is set for my son or daughter or phantom child....
Connecting to my neighbors Wi-Fi (same ISP different router) - no change. Updated my router to latest firmware - no change.
The laptop Matt collected data from is not affected by my changing children back and forth. No matter what child I select and how many times I try, I am always locked out of Toontown. This machine is wireless running Vista 32. Changed children, disabled Safety Minder.....nothing. Disabled radio and hooked up cat five... maybe? Nope. For whatever reason the laptop will NOT give me intermittant connections like the wired desktop will.
Not sure what that means, if anything. Hope it helps!
2.Does your child’s Windows account have Administrator rights, Limited rights or Standard rights?

6.What is the Web Browser (and version)?

Some progress with Toontown and Safety Minder 1.2.0.37!
Safety Minder still will not let my kids play, HOWEVER, and this is a BIG plus, if I disable Safety Minder, they can play. I no longer have to do the full uninstall of Safety Minder. Woo Hoo! Life got a little easier!
Oh, I forgot. Two laptops with v1.2.037 of Safety Minder now allow me to disable it and Toontown will run. Toontown still will not run if Safety Minder is enabled, regardless of settings. Waiting on third laptop and my desktop results. Laptops are Acer 5720 and Dell 1525.
Acer was just restored from factory settings and is pretty "out of the box" new, though I have install a few things. Dell has many many programs on it. Will check Toshiba Satellite x205 and my homebrew desktop and let you know.
Grrrr.... Per your request I updated a bunch of stuff and now my wireless won't connect. But on the plus side, if I plug my computer directly in to the internet, Toontown now works. Here's what's installed and working as expected:
So as far as I am concerned, this bug is fixed and can be closed. Thanks.
(Now if I can only get Wireless to work again.... then we'll see if it's REALLY fixed.)
GOOD NEWS HERE AS WELL. AFTER INSTALLING NSM 1.2.0.37, ON TWO PCs (XP AND VISTA), I’M ABLE TO LOG INTO TOONTOWN ON BOTH. CASE SOLVED! I’M JUST CURIOUS, WAS THIS A NORTON ISSUE OR TOONTOWN? THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP!
I noticed some of the pages that I visited (automatically brought to those pages) while trying to play Toontown are categorized as "Entertainment & Music" and "Kids", so please make sure these two categories are unblocked as well. (I was not able to play Toontown when I had these two categories blocked).
Do you have Norton Safety Minder installed on the PC while having trouble installing Toontown? If you uninstall NSM, are you able to install Toontown? We were informed by Disney that Toontown isn’t yet optimized to run on 64-bit Operating Systems thus there is a possibility of encountering issues trying to run Toontown Online in this environment.
Same situation on my son's Toshiba Satellite x205 laptop - version 1.15 of Safety Minder blocks Toontown across the board. Only way to get it to work is a full uninstall. The current version of Norton Safety Minder will allow me to disable Norton Safety Minder, and Toontown loads. This is a Vista 64 machine (shipped with Vista 32, upgraded to 64).
So that makes the Dell 1525, Acer 5720, and Toshiba x205 that all have the exact same problem. All laptops. All use either Norton 360 v3 or Norton Internet Safety (2010). My homebrew desktop with VIsta 64 has intermittant problems when 1.15 of NSM was installed.
At this point, I am going to try Windows 7 on the Acer, just to see. Acer refuses to tell me if I can install Windows 7, because I am "out of warrenty", however they have Windows 7 drivers for my model posted on their web site..... so.....
Ok. Today's experiment went well. Acer refused to tell me if Win 7 64bit would work because I was "out of warranty" so I installed it anyways and viola.... Toontown runs great.... Only things installed are Norton 360 v3, Toontown, and Safety Minder.... No issues at all. So on the SAME Acer formerly running Vista 32 and fresh from a factory install, it did not work... I installed Windows 7 64 bit and now
Norton Safety Minder is not affecting Toontown play at all. Go figure!
WIndows 7 is nice. They should probably have released it as Vista SP 3.... since I do not plan on buying any more WIndows 7, I am not sure what I can do about the remaining two laptops that still have issues.
