Generally before I get any file online i scan it. Well today I noticed that norton was not running. When I tried to click on it, nothing happened for a few minutes and then autofix appeared saying i had error 8504,101. So I followed the steps and have the Norton RNR sitting on my desktop but when I try to run it the messaged "Could not gather details about the layout or license" appears
My computer is fine as far as I can tell but knowing it's not working makes me uneasy. So if someone could help me with this asap that would be great.
My computer runs Windows XP and I have Norton Internet Secuity 2012
Can someone please help me?
Hi
Sorry for the trouble you're having. Please go hereand follow the instructions and then Please Run Check Disk and then Run the Live Update and check.
Check Disk: Open Run(win key + r)->type cmd->type chkdsk /r /f->type y -> Restart the computer and let the check disk run and then run the Live Update.
A good place to start is to let NIS try to fix itself. Go to the main UI and select 'Support-Get Support'. This will start a check of your installation, and will fix what ever it finds. Reboot and see if things are back to normal.
Ok well the Chkdsk just finished and I've been trying to run liveupdate but it doesn't seem to work I click on it it just doesn't load at all, just like NIS
Did you followed the instructions in the post i had directed you?
I looked through the entire post and got confused so I tried but I couldn't figure it out.
Can you run me through it step by step here then I can try it.
Sorry for the inconvenience: Below are the steps to follow,
If you have a identity safe data back it up before proceeding.
Goto Control panel uninstall norton AV ->select the second option to completely uninstall ->restart -> Run Norton Removal Tool -> Restart -> Press windows key + R -> type devmgmt.msc -> View Show Hidden devices -> open Non-Plug and Play Drivers-> if you find NAVENG, NAVEX15, starting from Symantec Data Store to SymEvent (entries starting with Sym) ->right click on them click uninstall -> For the Restart prompts select no -> Goto Program files if you find Norton Folder delete it -> Goto Run ->type temp ->Delete all the files in there -> Run -> %temp% ->delete all ->Now Restart the PC ->Install Norton Antivirus->Run Live Update until you get no updates found message ->restart PC
Reply back if you've any difficulties.
Alright, Well I'll have to do it tomorrw but I've got this paged saved for then.
But I do just have one question: Would simply inserting the disc, and re-installing it like that fix it? I have hte disc and product key still and I am pretty sure if I install the disc again it'll bring up the uninstaller and then I'd have to reinstall it.
Would that fix it? or do i have to go through all of that in order to prevent it from happening again
Doing a simple unistallation will remove mostly all the files and might fix the problem for now, we have to follow the above steps to make sure it stays that way by removing the files that might escape the normal uninstallation.
I been having the same issue four times in over a month. Followed all the steps, email, chatted and spoke to agents by phone. What is this error Error 8504,101? And what is the fix? Its a known issue based on the postings all over the message boards. Thnx
