Firefox 4.0 detected as a risk by Norton Internet Security

hi,

i'n using NIS 2011. recenly i upgraded my firefox and firefox is crashing often.

i submitted the crash report and they said :

The first one is a crash in coWPPlg.dll, part of Norton Confidential.
The second one is a crash in coFFPlgn.dll, also part of Norton Confidential

also they say there is a problem NIS detecting plugin-container.exe (firefox process) as a risk.

Is there is any update for this issue?

Thanks in advance

Sam

FF4 was officially released yesterday. Not a RC, the proper FF4. Have a look at the Mozilla website. :smileyhappy:

I am having a similar problem, also I cannot locate and unblock plugin-container.exe through norton insight application ratings. My Internet explorer has been hacked to to kingdom come and is un-usuable/restorable. I would appreciate it when norton fixes their product.

I have the same problem with Norton Internet Security 2010 and FireFox 3.6.16 on Widows Home X64.  Does not seem te affect the 32 bit versom on Vista Home Premium.  Have reinstalled Firefox 4 or five times.  If I do not get missing xul.dll file, reinstall Firefox warning.  As soon as I start Firefox Nortons flags the file as plugin-container.exe and removes it causing Firefox to lock up and crash.

Very difficult to access e-mail due to Firefox being primary browser with all my links and passwords since Norton's log ins do not work with Oper or Google Chrome.

Am afraid to fire up my laptap expecting same problem.

i still didnt upgrade to 4.0. i had this prob when i was using firefox 3.6.15 and now using 3.6.16 and same crash issue.

Are you running NIS and Norton Confidential ?

All of the features and functionality in Norton Confidential are currently included with the Norton Internet Security Suite.

also they say there is a problem NIS detecting plugin-container.exe (firefox process) as a risk.

If you have a problem with the plugin-container, you may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in safe mode and select Disable all add-ons. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See this article for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.

Is there is any update for this issue?

Is the issue Firefox or ?

Thanks in advance

Sam

found it! Norton does not like Shockwave Flash so whenever it is enabled and a web page tries to use it, Norton shuts down Firefox

Edit: ty bjm_ for pointing that out

Unfortunately I think this is misleading....what happens is running Flash in firefox triggers firefox/plugin-container.exe. this in turn gives rise to insight WS Reputation 1 alert

Everything is OK here.

Unable to duplicate your scenario.  Firefox 3.6.16 and Shockwave Flash 10.2.153.1 work OK on my machine.

The issues with firefox should now be resolved.  This was a back-end change so you do NOT need to run LiveUpdate to get the fix. Thanks to everyone for alerting us to the problem and for being patient as we worked to fix it.  There were some changes in the product release methodology followed by firefox for this release that caused Norton to make the detection. We are following up with Mozilla to ensure that such an issue doesn't happen again.

Just so I'm not confused.   quote: The issues with firefox should now be resolved.

The issues that you refer to are limited to "plug-in container.exe"  ?

Moved to it’s own thread.

Actually, Dave, my post was in reply to RVAR's response above that the Toolbar issue on FFv4 was resolved.....how do I clear the disabled extension?  No option to enable appears....

Yes, that is correct. The Norton Toolbar fix has not been released yet.
