Getting an error on a particular app when Norton scanning in the Play Store

Note: Please do not post Personally Identifiable Information like email address, personal phone number, physical home address, product key etc.

Issue abstract: “Spot the Station” is causing an error when being scanned

Detailed description: After searching in the Google Play Store for “Spot the Station” and opening it, the scan that usually takes place at the bottom (usually coming up with Safe), is just showing “Error”. It’s only happening for this app as far as I can tell, other apps scan fine.

I’ve seen this once before with an app that literally just came out, but the error went away (replaced by Safe) after a month or so - however “Spot the Station” has been out for a long time, so not sure why it’s doing this.

I’ve made sure the Google Play Store is up to date as is Norton, and phone restarted - no diff.

Note this is the second time I’m posting this, the original post was at https://community.norton.com/t/getting-error-on-a-particular-app-when-norton-is-scanning-it-in-the-google-play-store/395389 but is no longer available nor showing in stuff I’ve posted??? I added screen shots to that one, so I’m not going to do that this time, hopefully this one stays.

Product & version number: Norton 360 for Android - version 5.112.7.250612470

OS details: Android 15 on a Samsung S24

What is the error message you are seeing? “Error” - see detailed description

If you have any supporting screenshots, please add them:

Okay thanks for confirming you’re getting that same “Error” when Norton goes to scan the app, and looks like you downloaded it anyhow and it seems to run fine, which is good to know.

I guess I’m concerned why it’s saying Error for? My paranoid side says there may be a problem with the STS app that’s causing this (potentially security risk?) so I’m leery to download an app that Norton is having an issue with.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Sorry, I’m not familiar with Spot the Station and uninstalled each time.

I imagine you’d need to document the Error event with Norton support.

Okay, guess I’m wondering more about what we’re supposed to do when we get that Error - let’s see if anyone else has seen this, if not I’ll check out the Chat option in the app to see if anyone can help there.

Cheers

Hello @JB_Norton_User
btw ~ I’m not seeing the Error on my Samsung Android 14

Hello @JB_Norton_User
btw ~ same report on my Samsung Android 15 & 14

Hello @JB_Norton_User
fwiw ~ as test: restarted my Samsung Android 15
I’m not seeing Error…at this time.

Edit: as test: restarted my Samsung Android 15 & 14
I’m not seeing Error…at this time.

Hello @JB_Norton_User

Sorry I’m late to the party here. I can confirm what you are seeing in the Google Play Store with the scan result showing Error. And it does seem to be just for that one app.
I’ll try to escalate this to my Norton contact.

Ok thanks @bjm - weird, I have tried restarts, and I’ve also tried on at least 2 Android OS’s, same issue… on a hunch I tried clearing the Norton 360 app cache, did a device restart, and checked again → still same error :frowning: - sorry for the late response BTW, I was offline for a bit - thanks for all the feedback!

Okay thanks @peterweb - yeah that’d be great if we can have some feedback from Norton if they see the same problem - it’s really weird it’s doing it to just this one app (at least in the ones I’ve tested) - the Dressipher app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.barkunjgames.dressipher&hl=en_CA&pli=1) gave me that same error when it initially came out, only other time I’ve seen that - but a bit after (think a month?) Dressipher was out it was scanning normally (Safe) like everything else - but Spot The Station is still erroring…

Hello @JB_Norton_User , @peterweb

as test: confirm my Norton 360 scans okay

fwiw ~ now, I’m seeing Error when I call “spot the” → Spot the Station from search results (Android 15/14)

Hello @JB_Norton_User
maybe, my Spot the Station call was different
maybe, my cache was causal not seeing Error = not seeing Norton scan

Hello bjm, thanks for that test, yeah Dressipher was fine about a month after its release, but Spot the Station continues to fail the scan…

Cheers

Hi all,

Thank you for the report. We created a ticket for our developers, hopefully it will be fixed in one of the upcoming releases.
