Issue abstract: Online meeting with Google Meet

Detailed description: Before I installed Norton 360 I could easily have online meetings with Google Meet. After I installed Norton 360 I can still participate in online meetings with Google Meet, but I cannot hear the others and they cannot hear me. My microphone is however active and my sound is not muted. I assume the sound is blocked by Norton, but I don’t know how to unblock it. Who can help me with this?

What is the error message you are seeing?

If you have any supporting screenshots, please add them:

@Bjorn_Zwakhoven When you open your Meet app does in indicate that it needs an update installed? If so install that update and reboot the device. The last time I used meet that was the scenario I had as well.

SA

Thank you for your reply SoulAsylum.
Unfortunately, that is not the solution in my case. I don’t get any indication that it needs to be updated. It is really just the sound that doesn’t work. If I “test” the loudspeakers, it doesn’t produce any sound (and my volume is put to very high). I assume Norton is blocking something, I just don’t know how to unblock it.

Are you Windows 10 / 11 ? Have a look at these suggests to troubleshoot what is happening.

SA

Thanks SA!
I am a Windows 11 user. I tried all the suggestions you send to troubleshoot what is happening, but nothing works. Everything is clearly set correctly.
I have also checked via other ways that my speakers are still working and that is indeed the case.
Finally I tried a meeting with Teams and had no issues there. So it seems it is only a problem with Google Meet :frowning:

Thanks for the post back. That is exactly what happened during my last meet online. No audio or video. Tinkered with the settings a bit and found things were already good to go. Just began working on its own. But opening the program I was asked to update the app so I did. That’s why I suggested that on your part as well. Glad things are sorted for you too.

SA

Hi SA,

As Google Meet is still not working, I wouldn’t say that the issue is solved. I regularly get invites for meetings through Google Meet, so I will still have a problem there. If I can set it up myself, I can use Teams, but for the others I need to find a solution :frowning:

Are you by chance using a VPN with Meet? If so disable it and recheck.

SA

No, not using VPN.
I really think it is my Norton 360 that is blocking a lot of things, but I don’t know how to change that setting to make it work normally.

In your Meet settings are there any areas related to AI noise filtering that can be disabled? Those are normally in the Chrome browser, but, I’m not a Chrome user.

Edited: Just opened Meet via my Opera GX browser and instantly saw this prompt. My speakers work my side without touching any settings.

SA

No, there is nothing related to AI noise filtering.
I just tested everything extensively and can conclude that my microphone is working properly and my speakers are also working in other environments, just not in Google Meet. As this issue started when I installed Norton 360, I assume it is a certain setting.

Lets ask @bjm if they have another perspective, I’m currently not at my laptop with version 25.xx installed.

SA

Caveat: I’m not familiar with Google Meet

Hello @Bjorn_Zwakhoven

Maybe, try…Protect your microphone…off/red…as test.
Maybe, add browser (meet.google.com) as Allowed with App permissions
Maybe, add HP Audio Center (similar) as Allowed with App permissions

for example:

Hello @Bjorn_Zwakhoven

Hi @bjm
I have replied to your previous post, but apparently it is waiting for the approval of an administrator. No idea why that is the case.

Thanks
maybe, your reply included an image or a link?

Indeed, it includes an image.

Here is the reply I sent without the image:
Thank you very much for all the suggestions. I tried all of them, but unfortunately nothings works :frowning::

Switching off Safe Cam
Adding Google Chrome (I cannot specifically add Google Meet)
Adding Realtek Audio Console (as my speakers are from Realtek)

Hello @Bjorn_Zwakhoven
Ahh…so issue remains with SafeCam off.
So, something else Norton is causal as Google Meet was okay before Norton install.

~ and you restarted machine after switching off SafeCam?

===================================================

Guess, I’d need an invite link to test my side.
I’m wondering whether you can DM me an invite link?
I’m wondering whether I can send myself an invite link?
Sorry, I’m not familiar with Google Meet.

Hello @Bjorn_Zwakhoven

fwiw ~ as test: turned on every W11 24H2 Home - Microphone & Camera privacy switch.
Normally, for me…W11 = they’re all off.

Note: SafeCam is enabled/default Smart Mode. → Test → Playing = sound comes thru my headphone.

===============================================

fwiw ~ as test: I sent myself an invite link and with Admit. I hear myself and my keyboard/mouse clicks.

Note: SafeCam is enabled/default Smart Mode.
Chrome & Edge are Program Control → Allow
fwiw ~ I can switch between Chrome & Edge and see/hear myself.

@Bjorn_Zwakhoven The reason your screenshots are in moderation is that you still don’t have “basic” trust level on the forums for some reason. Your level level is still at “new user” for some reason.
