Help with Yahoo email

Ever since I downloaded the Norton Anti Virus, I can’t get into yahoo email. Is there something I can do to make it work? Please bear with me, I am pretty computer illiterate. Thanks.

What version of Norton Anti Virus? Yahoo web based email or do you use Outlook? XP or Vista. If you downloaded it did you install it?

The newest version. I believe its 16.0.0.125. And I am trying to get into the web based version of yahoo email. I tried getting my yahoo account to work in outlook and that was a mess too. I gave up on that! Oh…and I have Windows XP media addition.

NIS 2009 does not stop you from logging into Yahoo.com what so ever. This is how I check my email and it works just fine. Again I will ask are you using any other security products? Does this happen only with Internet Explorer or does it also happen with Firefox? Have you tried clearing your cookies and temp files from your browser? BTW you are using NIS 2009 if you have that version.

I don’t have any other security products. (At least not that I know of) And it happens with both IE and Firefox. Sometimes I can get to where I sign into yahoo email, sometimes I can’t. When I get to sign in, then all I get is a white screen and it just sits there and spin. And yes, I’ve cleaned out everything. More than once. I’ve even unloaded and reloaded everything.

What is running down in your system tray? My entire family uses Yahoo web based email and NIS 2009 and has no problems logging in. It must be something on your end. hat security products where you using before?

How do I find out what is running in my system tray? And I had Norton before. I just ran the update they suggested. It might not be anything related to norton. It might just be a coincendence.

Your system tray is the tray on the bottom of your Windows. Look to the right at your clock. Did you completely uninstall your previous version first?

Oh okay. Down there -Quick time -Safely remove hardware -HP digital imaging -Volume and -Norton Internet Security And as to whether or not I completely installed the old one?? Right now, I don’t know for sure anymore. I am pretty sure I simply followed the instructions for installing the new one. But I think I uninstalled anything I could find with Norton in the name. Then reinstalled the new one. I tried reinstalling the old one, but it had no virus protection.

Well everything seems ok. Have you tried getting into Yahoo email lately? I just opened up a new tab and went right in.

I can get signed in, but the page just goes white…and the upper right corner just spins. Gads this is frustrating. I can get it to work on my cell phone, but not the computer! Thank you so much for your help. Maybe it will fix itself by morning! I don’t think I’m that lucky!!!

Download and install CCleaner. Run it and let it clean out your cookies?. Are you using Yahoo email classic or The new Yahoo email? Have you tried shutting off your modem for about 30 secs then shutting down your pc. Restart your modem and wait about a minute. Restart your pc.

CCleaner…okay!..And I have only ever used the classic version of yahoo email. I will do just that. I’ll shut down, shut off my modem…leave it off and try it in the morning. I hope it works. Thanks!

Does NAV have AntiSpam? If it does, disable it.

Yes and disel jog my memory here...what was the .dll he may want to unregister...

What dll Tech? Anti Spam has nothing to do with Web based email.

Thanks so much for the help. None of it worked except..shutting off my pc for the night. The next morning it worked for a while, then it started acting up AGAIN!. I didn't even look at my pc yesterday or this morning, so I'm not sure what is up. I'll check it again this evening.

But thanks again for all the help!! :smileyhappy:

Are you only trying to log into the Yahoo site itself? I just tried on both my laptop and desktop and it works. Once again Norton does not interfer with you logging into a web page. Have you tried right clicking on your Norton system tray icon and disablingn it just to see what happens?

This could be a physical problem. Have your ISP run a line test. Also run a speedtest @ speedtest.net and see if you are getting your advertised speeds. I would also run CCleaner everytime before you try to login and everything you logout.

Yes,I was trying to get into my yahoo email. I can usually get yahoo.com up without a problem and almost everything else on that site seems to work okay. It's just when I got to mail.yahoo.com to try to sign into my email that my computer throws a fit.

And yes, I've shut down my Norton, even uninstalled it, and I still was having the same problem.

I've had no problems accessing my yahoo email from my computer at work. So it has to be something with my pc.

A physical problem??? Like I don't know what the heck I'm doing??? *L* That I'd believe!!

I recall doing the speed test when I first set up my PC and all was fine. But I'll do it again when I get home. I'll do the CCleaner too.

Thanks to you too for all the help!!

Maybe all will be just fine when I get home tonight. One can only hope! :)
