Nobody?

Bump....

No one? Nobody from Symantec can tell me how to get the software to clear / rebuild "My Network" in Norton 360?

Barryware,

Sorry for the long delay.  Have you tried taking the device you want to purge offline, and refreshing the network?  Another question: can you reassign new IPs to these devices and add them as if they were brand new devices?

Mark from SYMC

Thanks for the reply.

Yes.. When I take the device off line (which it is because it is retired), it shows the device as being offline. I can assign different IP's to new devices but that does not purge the old devices. They are still there, they show as offline.

For testing and trying, assigning different IP's is OK. Permanently it is no good. It broadens my reserved IP scope which will then mean I have to change the DHCP scope which is not acceptable. Then.. forwarded ports in the routers, firewall settings, etc., etc., need to change.

It would be a whole lot easier and cleaner just to somehow clear the "My Network" data and let the software rebuild it which pretty much puts us back to my original question.

Don't take this the wrong way.. I have been a symantec / norton user all the way back in the days of DOS. Back then, it was just Norton.

This software seriously lacks fundamental tweaking, tuning, and maintenance capabilities not to mention the ability to look at a log and see what it has done. It tells you that it has cleaned your registry or protected you from some threat, but it does not tell you what changes it has made or what threat you were protected from. Makes it difficult to repair a mistake that the reg cleaner has performed or allow a perceived threat.

In a previous post I asked how to tweak or disable some of the "nag" stuff that pops up. A symantec representative explained that this software was geared towards the novice computer user (I am paraphrasing). Just "set & forget". Maybe as a feature request, add the ability to select "advanced" menu options. Many, many software packages have this feature. No need to start naming them.

So... Is there a way of clearing / resetting the "My Network" data and let the software rebuild this data?

Barryware,

Unfortunately, this can't be done for this version of N360, but it's a known issue and something we're planning on in our next release.

MK

OK.. I Have NO PROBLEM spending MORE MONEY (for the next release) to pay for something that should be fundamentally included with the suite.

You may want to consider the change in an update.

Have a great weekend.

Hi barryware,

When a new version is released all users with a current valid license (days remaining) are encouraged to download and install the update at no addition charge.   In most cases you simply download the update, and install it on top of your existing install.   The system will pick up the remaining days.  In extreme cases other steps may be required but in any case any problems can be resolvable.   Please write down your key and/or make certain it is stored in your mynorton account.

This is correct. As long as you have a valid subscription to Norton 360, you eligible to receive all updates, including the new version updates. The only thing you may need to purchase is additional subscription time, but you'll only need to do this if your current subscription has expired. Please let me know if you have questions about this process. Thanks!

I understood you to mean that it will be addressed in the next "version" which typically needs to be purchased, not an update to the existing version. I apologize.

Hi barryware,

There's no need for apology. We know it seems a bit confusing at first, which is why we try to communicate the FREE UPDATE to everyone who could possibly be eligible to receive it. I'm sure that many other customers like you were under the impression that the next version would need to be purchased. I'm glad you spoke up about this issue so we could get that information out to everyone. Thanks!

Any progress in this issue (erase / reconfigure / delete devices logged in "My Network")?

It is an issue again in my network setup.

Not trying to start a fight or anything... How hard can it be to make the software allow a deletion of a device in "My Network" OR, delete everything and have the software rebuild that data?

Right click on the device, and select "delete".

re>>I spent the weekend changing around my network. Pc's were replaced as well as two NAS devices. re>>For instance, I replaced one brand of NAS with another. I configured the new NAS with the same IP as re>>the retired device. The same with a couple of PC's.

re>>Is there a way to clean out "My Network" and start over?

Hello, first please allow me to say that I in no way associated with Symantec (which will be obvious by my posting details).  I had a wish to do the same thing. I would check my wireless network on a regular basis before it was protected as it was an open wireless point (dangerous I know) and as a result Norton would show a lot of connections. When you are looking for a paticular connection it can be a pain to go through the list, especially as you have said, old connections that will no longer be active. My fix for this was found accidently found and, if I may, mention that it occured with the NIS (Norton internet security) program but I have to believe that it would work the same with 360, as everything seems to be the same in that respect.

From what I can gather, when Norton believes there is a new network attached it will start a new display of devices in the N360 My Network window.

I was trying to setup a static IP addresss for port forwarding purposes which made me change the IP address for which the devices (computers) that were assigned. I had the IP addresses start from a different range of IP's than what the DHCP would have assigned automatically. I had some problems connecting while trying to setup port forwarding and went back to letting the system automatically assign the IP addresses, however I learned that since Norton thought I had gone to a new network and even though I was now using the same addresses with the same devices my list in My Network was now cleaned out.

If this is unclear as far as the information or the process I assume that with the given information the techie's that run around here would be able to expand (The people around these forums are awsome, or at least they have been for the information I have learned) or in a month from now I will be moving and will have a network (no roommates on the computer 24/7) to use as I see fit so I would then be able to go through the steps myself (as I have written them from memory) and guide anyone that might need it.

{For anyone that tweaks their TCP/IP settings it is possible to make your connection faulty or even stop connecting to the internet}

I truly hope that it is of some help.

Take care.

Have you tried purging the network map?

You can find the option under Norton 360 main UI-> Settings -> My Network->Purge Network Map

There is a "Purge" button that you can click to remove all the devices that are listed in Network Map.

Let me know if this helps.  :smileyhappy:

Hello Johnny,  Thank you for this information, I do not know if I am accessing the wrong area or if I am missing something.

In the final window of: Norton 360 My Network (header to the top left), Help & support (header to the top right), I only see the options: "Network security overview" - "Show welcome screen at startup" as well as: "Remote monitoring settings" - "Communication port xxxxx".

I got this final window by: Opening Norton 360 >> Settings >> My network.

Although it is not urgent to myself at the moment I appreciate anything I can learn about the Norton product.

Again thank you for your time and assistance.

Going to the "settings" tab, then "my network", yields a page that has two options.

The first, A check box to "show welcome screen at startup"

The second, to specify the port for remote monitoring.

There is no Purge button.

This is important to me as my network hardware & devices is always changing and everything gets messed up when IP stay the same but mac addresses change.

My apologies for not realizing that you are using N360 version 2, in which the "purge" option was not available.

N360 version 3 (currently in beta) allows you the purge the network map. Please refer to Tony Weiss post. You may be able to update to the version 3. :smileyhappy:

I'm not real crazy about installing a Beta on top of my paid for retail version.

When the beta is officially released, per Tony's post, I (as well as others) will have a free upgrade from V2 to V3, correct?

Hi barryware,

The Subscription Clarification Announcement details how Upgrades, Renewals and Version Updates work, including for Norton 360 v3. In this case, going from V2 to v3 would be a Version Update. Please let us know if you need more information about subscriptions, updates, and upgrades. Thanks!

When V3 goes from beta to commercial, will it install automatically as a normal live update or will it have to be downloaded and installed?
