How to permanently disable automatic liveupdate to prevent upgrade to version 24xx

I have tried disablling automatic liveupdate in settings, but this only works for while. I’m not sure what the trigger is (maybe Windows Update related?) but I have yet to find a way of keeping my Norton 360 at version22xx.

I’ve checked background tasks and services, but I’m not sure which of the Norton services I could disable to prevent the update from happening without also impacting negatively on the program in other ways?

Any proven tips would be greatly appreciated. I guess by proven I mean you’ve been able to stay on Norton 360 v22 indefinitely - or at least for longer than I was able to - approx. 4 weeks!

@MrD_Bailey The methods I have posted for everyone work. Once you install version 22 you must disable Live Updates at that time. You CANNOT run Smart Scan or Live Updates for any reason or you will be served with version 24.xx or the latest version 25.xx. Getting virus definitions updates is via Intelligent Updater.

Have you followed the directions in this thread of mine for reverting?

@MrD_Bailey Its been quite some time so I am just following up to see what your progress and status are. Can we assist further?

Have you followed the directions in this thread of mine for reverting?

Yes I did, and many thanks for your follow up email dated 4th June 2025.

I have been using version 22.23.10.10 and so I will try again using the version you recommend - N360-ESD-22.24.8.36-EN.exe

FYI: The link to download the safe source file appears to no longer work. I disabled all my browser (Firefox Developer Edition) extensions, but it still won’t download - just a blank page.

Please consider this case as solved, whatever the outcome. My mind at the moment is to either cancel my subscription or to not renew it. I have other gripes about the software, not least it’s attempts to ‘up sell’ all the while - although this may be common now in other security suites.

Many thanks for your concern and advice.

I just tried the download link and it is still live. Be sure you do not have a VPN active when trying to access Norton sites.

@MrD_Bailey Thanks for the post back. Let us know if you can get the 22.24.8.36 installer with your VPN disabled. IF you then believe the thread is solved please mark it as solved so others may see what your issue was and its solution. I just tested the link below and its working for me as well. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the link - I had no problem in downloading version 22.24.8.36 - it was the link to the source code that wasn’t working. I wasn’t using a VPN. I am going to mark this as ‘solved’ but I did not get the solution I wanted.

Note: Your initial response: ‘The solution I posted for everyone works’ - was not helpful, but at least you didn’t say ’ … works for everyone.’

It did not work for me.

But I do appreciate the attempts at assistance and I appreciate that troubleshooting remotely is never going to be easy.

My solution is to cancel my subscription since Norton is no longer the product it was when I renewed my subscription. I don’t like companies that force updates on their customers, I did not like the new GUI and more importantly, there was a significant performance impact.

Thank you again for trying to help.

You’re most welcome, glad we could help at least in some way. Its sad hearing you are departing Norton too. Norton will get its act together so keep your eyes on the forums. I am personally waiting for that to happen as well so I can get back to using Norton on all my devices again. Stay well.
