Issue abstract: Can’t Remove Performance Scan: Issues Found Norton Utilities “ad” from lower left corner of Home

Detailed description: Norton 360 blocked a website for malvertising. This is a website I’ve been visiting repeatedly for many years and I know it is safe. It has not been flagged as malvertising over the two weeks since N360 v24 was installed. That changed after the software was updated earlier today. I stupidly clicked on the option to complete a scan thinking it would just do a scan. That ended with Norton 360 offering a free trial of Norton Utilities to fix performance issues consisting of “37568 unnecessary files and applications that are slowing down my PC.”

There is now a notification in the lower left corner of Home on the dashboard that won’t go away. Clicking on it brings up a screen telling me I need to buy Norton Utilities to fix the issues. Selecting the option indicating that I am “not interested” brings up a page offering a free trial. When I close that window, the notification on the Home screen does not go away. It remains even after rebooting the computer.

How do I remove the ad?

Product & version number: 24.11.9615 (build 24.11.9615.883)

OS details: Windows 11 24H2

What is the error message you are seeing? None…just an annoying ad for software I don’t want that I can’t get rid of.

Thanks for pointing me towards that thread bjm. I’ll continue posting/venting there. I don’t expect it to do much good, given that it is clear that Norton has purposely made it so you can not opt out of the “special offers” when you run a smart scan. But sometimes venting can be cathartic ;-).
