How to stop "Your computer will sleep in XX seconds"

I sometimes get a message, usually when I come back from Sleep, that says "Attention Required   Your computer will sleep in XX seconds" and I need to click Cancel to make it go away and not sleep.

WHY DO I GET THIS and HOW DO I MAKE IT STOP ?

Jack

@AliceM39
have you seen the message?

AliceM39:

If I don't see the message in a week or so I'll make this as Solved.

Solved ?

AliceM39:

I noticed that I had a custom scan set up that was set to Sleep instead of Stay On. I changed it and we will see what happens. If I don't see the message in a week or so I'll make this as Solved.

Thanks

I THINK this may have been it. I noticed that I had a custom scan set up that was set to Sleep instead of Stay On. I changed it and we will see what happens. If I don't see the message in a week or so I'll make this as Solved.

Another option is to just uninstall completely remove all saved settings and then perform clean installation from here

Sorry, I was not looking there. It is set to Stay On. I ran a Quick Scan and it stayed on with no message displayed, so I don't think that is it.

Sorry, I've only seen ... Your computer will sleep in xx seconds ... with When items are complete, my computer should Sleep

Did you check Full Scan for Stay On ?
Do you have any Custom Scan schedule?

From Norton 360 systray icon

  • click Open Norton 360

  • click Security tile
  • click Scans button

I can not find in the Norton app in Windows where that option for Quick Scan is ?

Hi AliceM39
Please post back progress.

Hi AliceM39

Maybe, check your Quick Scan setting.  When items are complete, my computer should _______.  Stay on is default.

I see ... Your computer will sleep in xx seconds. ... with Sleep

Norton LiveUpdate will run in the background about once an hour. If a LiveUpdate downloads new malware definitions, it will call on a Quick Scan to check the system against any new definitions just downloaded. It should only take about a minute to complete, depending on your system specs.

Quick Scans are considered a priority item.  If they have not had an opportunity to run after a few days (3 days, I believe), a Quick Scan will run automatically.

The problem is I get the messages in the middle of doing things. If you look at the attached screen shot you will see I was in the middle of looking at a video clip. I do not know why Norton is involved at all.

And the power setting for Sleep is set to short times (20 battery, 30 plugged), but that should only apply if the system is unused for a period of time. I just waited the 30 minutes and did NOT get that message before it went to Sleep, so it does not look like it is based on a system notification.

So, is there a feature in Norton that might want put the system to Sleep after it completes ? That would be a logical reason for Norton to display the prompt. Maybe the Idle Time Out feature (is set to 10 minutes) ?

Kindly go to Control Panel, choose power setting.

This will help you

my first guess is the settings in power/battery for when its set to hibernate/sleep etc..

sometimes a setting most dont think much about or even bother to change

power settings i think it is and adjust those, proberly have set for short time
