I Need Help!

I just got the Norton Antivirus and Antispyware protection and it's great but every time I do a scan it deletes my sound card!!! It's really frustrating and I have to update my BIOS then restart and reload my sound card :( The sound will work fine until I do another scan, what do I do?????!!!! Please help!

Is the file in quarantine?  If so, you can go to quarantine, restore it and tell Norton to ignore it.  Go to History>quarantine> more details.

Delphinium,

I greatly appreciate your response and I figured out how to view the quarantined history but I'm really not sure which item i'm looking for...There are a lot of items that say 'Intrusion Prevention' and other items that just say 'Unauthorized access blocked' i'm just looking at the items from last friday the 11th b/c that's the last time that I did the scan and it deleted my sound card. I wonder if it might be one of these....would it be a blocked item? I feel so helpless when it comes to this stuff! Hopefully you can provide a little more of your insight.

Thank you,

Latasha

There is a drop down in the bar that says recent history.  Click the dropdown and go directly to quarantine.  Then click on the item.  Abutton that says more details should be on the right side of the screen.  Click that and a screen with various options  will show up.  You can submit it to Symantec as well from there.

Hi look up in quarantine section only please do make sure that in the quarantine section list you put back only the soundcard and not  a real threat

If your sound card driver is old update to a new one !

Strange that norton deltes the sound card!

Hi could you provide some more detials regarding soundcard for eg company name??

Under Quarantine it shows a few different things for example it says 'Unauthorized access blocked (access thread data)' then under Details on the right  it has:

Date

ACTOR C:/windows/system32/services.exe

ACTOR PID: 648

TARGET:C:/ Program Files/Norton Antivirus/Engine/18.5.0.125/ccsvchst.exe

TARGET PID: 1968

ACTION: access thread data

REACTION: Unauthorized access blocked

NO ACTIONS AVAILABLE FOR THIS ITEM

I have an HP Pavillion dv2000 and this is the site I was using to retrieve my sound card

does this help you-to help me?!

[edit: Please do not direct link to .exe files per the Participation Guidelines and Terms of Service.]

hi please click qarantine on the norton welcome screen

I think your viewing security history

also this says nothing about deletion its says about a process who got too close to norton process

I think you shold remove the link in previous post

you can do so by clicking options >edit

I think its against forum rules to post links to direct .exe

(I may be worng though)

As for the sound card problem please be patient may be i or other members can help you get the problem resolved!

which operating system and service pack you use you can find by pressing windows key +  pause or

right my computer>properties

The notice that you posted is under Norton Tamper Prevention, not under the quarantine entries.  Find the white bar in the History screen that says "recent History" click that, please, and look at the options.  I would give you a screen shot, but it may take a lengthy time to get it approved by the Mods.  I will see if I can rustle up a guru to give us a screen shot.

Hi Latasha,

Please see sample screen shot below for how to access the Quarantine area.

Best wishes.

:smileyhappy:

after you do enter the menu

click on the soundcard entry only!

then click more details then click options present at the bottom of the screen!

You wil probably have 3 options

after that

remove

Restore

submit to symantec

click restore than you wil be confirmed in that box/menu their will be a an option / box for tick mark which says exclude tick that and your done!

Yes but the only thing is, the descriptions don't say soundcard specifically so I don't know which item is the right one. Also, all of the items that are on that quarantine list say that there are no more actions or options so i cannot restore or submit the problem or anything.

Hi again please mention what are the threat present in quarantine or how many??

Please exclude tracking cookies(If any)

Also which O/S do you use?

Sorry about the link that I posted! When I do the Windows + pause key it says I have

Windows Vista  Home Premium

2.0 windows experience index

AMD Turion (tm) 64 X2 TL - 58 1.90 Ghz

32-bit  Operating System

Thank you again Delphinium I appreciate your help. When I look at the  drop down menu where it says recent history it shows Norton Tamper Prevention and it lists a bunch of those blocked items but when I look at 'More Details' it doesn't show any other actions or anyplace I can click to undo it or something.

Hi again

Could you tell how many items present in quarantine and

the name of a threat which occurs frequently!
