I would like Norton to add an "Expert Mode", which when enabled would allow me/user to have greater control over the suite. And also display greater notifications on the actions being taken by Norton.

Not every user is a novice. I would love to have some control and more information in the future.

Symantec Log Viewer (ccLgView) gone in NIS2009 Version. I wish this Application back in 2010…Thanks.

agree!

 Now I use 360 v2.0 because I want NIS plus PC-Tuner ....

360 told me get one Attack ....

But I can't see the detail in Firewall report

Only AntiVirus report.............NO FIREWALL REPORT !

I think a advance user must want to know the attack detial : port...IP...Time...DNS....ect

I think 360 can build "Expert Mode" but not  Default

Then advance user can read more detial report of Antivirus and Firewall

I hope Norton 360 is powerful then NIS

Not More simple !!!!! (for advance user)

I think, that Norton Recovery Tool shoul be a part of NIS and other Norton products....like e.g. in Kaspersky

Norton 360 v 2.0 have a firewall log viewier...Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared and then open ccLgView.exe

Norton has done a excellent job with NIS 2009. I've stayed away from Internet Security Suites because everyone I've used has slowed down my computer. I've tried several security suites in the past few months and every single one slowed down my internet. I don't pay for high speed internet to have a security program turn it into a slow connection.

So when I tried NIS 2009 Beta I was surprised to see no slow down at all. Plus a firewall that can identify safe programs and not have to ask me what to do time after time.

My suggestions are not about what to add, instead I would suggest that if a user wants more options for tweaking then give it to them, but not if it costs even a little on performance. Most users just want to use their computers not spend many hours learning how to set up a firewall or setting their security. I believe the most users just want to put a security program on their computers and not have to worry about it or have a huge learning curve.

I think Norton has set a New standard for Security Suites. If you can add stuff and still keep it lean, that's great. Norton protection  has always been first rate, now the performance is better than any other security product I've use. So PLEASE keep going in that direction.

Please submit all Norton 360 v3 suggestions to Mark's thread. Thanks!

Hi to all. I have a couple suggestions to the dev team of Norton 2009. Could you make Norton even smaller ? (I know it's hardly possible to do it now, maybe in 2010 release). Another thing - could you make only 2 folders of Norton when it's installing ? Now NIS 2009 creates 5 folders. 2 Norton Installers, Symantec Shared, Norton and one with your selected name (default in Norton Internet Security). 2 folders would look much more tidy. Thank you and excuse me for my poor English. Regards.

HIPS (Full function AntiBot or ThreatFire)...this is important!!!

2.

AD-Block function . Like Firefox extension tool : Adblock Plus

( can add new URL rule manully and Continue update form SYMANTEC! )

(EX: KIS adblock can Continue update form Kaspersky)

I want to block MSN Messenger AD and Yahoo Messenger AD ! :smileytongue:

3.

"cloud computing" build in SONAR function

(F-Secure already use in DeepGuard 2.0)

some part of DeepGuard 2.0 whitepaper (PDF) : I got a map...

Improve the product Self-Defence,I hope NIS can't cut and paste files in the all Norton Folder!

And I hope can't change Norton product Registry manully !

Please Build more SSDT hock or more other hock into the system to Prevent been shutdown the security product by virus.

Like GDATA TotalCare 2008~2009 they have good Self-Defence

1. Full blown AntiBot functionality. (Current confusion about what features are integrated in NIS 2009 in fact really is quite a disaster...)

2. Something like Secunia Personal Software Inspector really would be awsome. Checking for software updates constantly is really critical and can be annoying.

Further personally I would suggest to concentrate on featurse which are really security orientate. Don't mix up things with Norton 360.

Hello Lana,

I don't know about you, but I got Kids.

How about if Norton would be the first pioneer on the User Interface field to make one template for KIDS.

This is just an example:

Very basic and colourful, funny and understandable user interface which shows a bank robber (for example) when something bad happens. After that happens, the internet connection would be automatically cut (if configured so) and there could be a customized graphic and a message. Maybe telling what to do.

Maybe nice option would be to use own graphics on the kids page. When parents and children would design it together, it would be very understandable. This could sound complicated to design, but if there would be just a couple of things which are the most important.

... and for the help content, how about a "virus museum" a little flash based adventure game which tells and shows how malware works from the kids point of view. No dry words and big lists.

These would also help other than kids, those people who can't  figure out things so easily or does not have the same controls we can use.

br,

Juha

@juha

Can you spell bloatware?

Teaching your kids about security threats is not the business of a security software if you ask me.

That @juha was funny! :)

Well, if you ask from me, you probably know the answer already. Don't you

If you would not have hands and you would need to use a whistle as a mouse, wouldn't you be grateful of a KIDS page? Can you bloat that?

br,

Juha

HI, I really likes NIS so much, the only strong suggestion is to increase its detection rate of all kinds of malware, I know Symantec is worried about false positives, but you can enable customers to choose the level. Hope to put more value on the detection rate, thanks~~~

I hope SONAR can use Cloud computing technology to increase detection rate ...

like GDATA or Antivir .... lol

And most important thing is  must to build the smart proactive defence system like HIPS :smileytongue:

Rather than a skinnable interface for kids, I'd rather have a minimal interface mode for the other machines of mine, and perhaps have any "Ask Me" questions for low-risk stuff come to my hub or central machine.  I don't want my kids (or really my wife - but don't tell her :smileyvery-happy:) to make security decisions on the machine.  I'd rather have default actions (or whatever the settings are) occur, and any "Ask Me" options come to my machine for the decision (i.e. deleting files from quarantine, etc.).

And I agree on the full AntiBot functionality.  We're buying Symantec's security SUITE, not individual products.  I have an expectation that the suite is complete security (or optional parts can be downloaded free).  I'm not paying for software, but the security service - Which is why no one minds a subscription model.

Regarding Tmac's comment:

I'd like to see a more aggressive detection option, but one that offers "ask user what to do" only for the ambiguous choices.

Regarding Juha vs Quimby 79:

Juha's suggestion doesn't have to require bloatware.  Like the add-ons NIS offers now, it will be a user option.  It could even be a separate fee-required option that pays for its development and maintenance.  Since what Juha is talking about mostly is  the family of displays and the information therein, none of these need be present in RAM, but only invoked as responses in given situations -- in other words, they won't slow operation or impact resources until they are actually needed.

I'm going to chime in here and ask that this thread be a SUGGESTION ONLY thread.   Please limit discussion here, sometimes one suggestion creates another, and in that case feel free to add yours.  The point here is to keep this thread on topic, and the topic is NIS 2010 product suggestions.

If you wish to discuss a specific suggestion that has been raised, please open a new thread for your comments and place a link to the post in this thread that you are discussing.

To find the 'direct link' to a specific post, use the 'options' menu in the top right of the post and select 'hi-lite this message'.  Once you have selected that the URL in your browser will be updated and point to that specific message.

Thanks!!!

Regarding my own comment about aggressive detection:

I really do have to pay more attention, sometimes.  :smileymad:  I just realized that NIS2009 just have an option to query user about "low risk" detection options.  I suppose that would be similar to what I am looking for.
