I have an HP 2133 netbook with Windows 7 on it. Since the latest NIS update, when I exit full screen mode in a specific game the following happens:
The Norton Internet Security taskbar button appears, but no window opens on the desktop. If I pause over the taskbar button, it shows an empty window with only the yellow orb in the middle. If I click on the button, then the main UI opens on the desktop. This window will remain even after I exit full screen and the program, until I manually close it.
I have Full Screen Detection on and have specified this particular program in the Silent Mode list. I ran Windows Media Player in full screen and it didn't happen, so it's probably unique to this game.
It's probably not a big deal, but I thought I'd mention it in case anyone else sees this behavior.
If you have opted to not run background tasks while playing that particular game in full screen, then if norton is due to perform, i.e. a quick scan, then it will wait until you close the window, then start doing it's scan, which is possibly putting the icon on your taskbar, because it's doing something in the background.
It will most likely go away when it's finished it's task.
If you click to open the norton window, then you will have to close it.
You are not alone in this one. I noticed exactly the same thing with my desk top computer last night. I tried running a game this morning to test it out and the same happens again to mine as you mentioned in your post. I have also replied to the other thread by 'Rich32'.
This must be a bug as it also only happened to after this new patch was released to me the other day. Mine came automatically!
My system is NIS 2010, v.17.5.0.127, Windows 7 Home Prem. (32 bit).
Mine now seems to have fixed itself! When I noticed on my sons pc it was no longer an issue, I looked at mine again but was still showing it after 'full screen mode'. I decided to restart my pc twice and all appears well again.
My patch update came through automatically and my pc was restarted quite a few times during yesterday so don't know why the patch didn't kick in properly, but it seems ok now.
I have a very similar issue. When I run any full scree app like video games the norton UI appears on the task bar but when I click it the program opens like I clicked the icon in the bottom right corner. This only after the 17.1 to 17.5 update. My issue won't go away though. Is there something I can do about this bug?
Whenever I exit a full screen application(game), norton is open in the background and I have to close it. Any fullscreen program I open also opens Norton 2010 to the desktop. Has anyone ever seen this before?
Hi Rich31, Yes I noticed this last night, tried running a game and when I close it, I notice the norton Icon in the task bar? When I hover over it it shows a blank box with the 'yellow Norton Orb' in the middle! When I click on it the NIS opens up. I think this is a bug as it only started after the latest patch upgrade.
Since my last post to this thread this morning it appears to have 'righted itself'? My sons pc is the same set up as mine and we played a game together and when I checked his pc afterwards the icon was no longer sitting in his task bar. (He was having the same issue ).I went to my pc and still had the issue so I decided to restart a couple of times and then found that it was fixed!
Try what I did, do two quick restarts with your pc then load a game for a couple of mins, then come out of the game and see if you still have the problem! I had this for a couple of days but after doing this I managed to stop it recurring.
You all are not alone, just reading this forum norton just popped up in the task bar without comeing out of a ful screen app. And yes just about everytime I exit from a full screen app nortons sitting on the task bar or on my screen like I clicked on it.
Contrary to my earlier posts saying I had managed to fix it by doing a couple of restarts, the bug appears to be back again? I noticed yesterday evening after running a game that the same problem persists again! Oh dear, let's hope a fix for this is in the offing soon as quite a few of us appear to be having this same problem, after this latest patch! Before that I never experienced this 'problem'.
Anyone know how to fix this?? Cause now i cannot play any fullscreen game, it keep switchung back to desktop because the Norton Internet Security taskbar button appears...
