Yep, I had the same problem tonight on my laptop that's still on version 20.2.1.22. My two Desktop computers are on version 20.3.0.36 and aren't haveing that problem.

why am i still on 20.1.0.24?

Well, I let a norton technician log on to my computer to fix the issue. and he commenced to run the Norton power Eraser which found no problems. Then he put my computer in SAFE mode, got into regedit and deleted stuff which he said uninstalled NIS 2013. he ran the NRT which didnt finish. and then tried to download NIS 13 in safe mode after I had to connect to the internet because he coudn't connect to my computer. while slowly downloading NIS 2013 I lost connection with him and after 1/2 hour I quit the session. NOW I am trying to run the NRT and downloading NIS 2013 myself and installing. I will be calling symantec in the morning! I hope he didnt screw up the regedit. Why do I even let those techs touch my computer????

I've tried 20.1.1.2 and 20.1.0.24.

Both have the same problem.

I'm with Windows 8 Pro x64 too.

I do have collected an NRA error log package that is available for upload.

I won't let anyone touch my computer =D

Symantec/Norton employees who review this forum, please note:

It appears that several of us have similar problems getting NIS version 20.3 to install.

What we have in common so far:

Several of us cannot get it to install on our laptops.  <---!  (It installed on my W7 desktop.)

A few of us cannot get it to install on our Windows 8 x64 (Pro, laptop in my case, too) systems.

I have the same problem on a Win8 Pro. 64bit NIS Ver.20.2.1.22. The other computer with Win 7 Pro. 64bit. NIS Ver.2.3..0.36 updates as normal.

Same here myself wont update on my NIS 2013 the NIS Engine everytime try the live update just keeps saying Failed on it. Hope you can Fix this problem for us.

ine it isn't possible to diwnload NIS updates. Suddenly, out of the blue. Doe anybody know the answer?

Hi ALL,

I saw on the N 360 Board where a Guru ran the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool and it installed 20.3.

No promises as I am not experiencing the problem.

I am using Norton Internet Security 2013 and am having the very same problem.

I dont know what it is that made me go check and when I clicked on LiveUpdate>Run LiveUpdate,

The Program passes just 1 out of 3 process. It only passes the first one which is "Check for updates".

The other two which are "Download updates" and "Process updates" both show this to the right of them "Failed to complete".

When I click on View Summary at the bottom this appears:

NIS Engine

Status: Failed to complete

Update Criticality: Recommended

And when I click on More information, it takes me to this link:

I have Windows 8 Pro 64bit "Fully Updated", Java 32+64bits and flash player are up to date.

My Windows firewall is turned off.

I have no other security program on my PC.

same issue here ;/ already restarted my pc but that didn't help

for me it fails to download first, so there must be an issue with symantec servers?

Same problem here ...   :smileysad:

Windows 8 Enterprise 32bit

Obviously they did something that it now says not required.

Why can't we get the latest version? @@

looks like they took it off the update servers. It's not being downloaded now

I ran NRT last night and downloaded and installed NIS 2013 again and it seems to be working ok now with new version 20.3.0.36

and I will never let tech support touch my computer again!
