Norton 26.2. keeps crashing

For me no change to yesterday. If I watch a YT video, Nortom crashes agin with the same error. New installation, repairing did not solve the problem.

After loosing my mind with youtube issue I think I found a solution for this just disable Deepfake protection in norton 360 and no crashes afterwards. Also just a note I have 2 different PC’s one with intel cpu i9 14900k and another with amd 9800x3d the amd one is having this issue. Hope this helps.

Hello AceCodes,
that was the solution. No more crashes after disabling Deepfake Protection. Many Thanks to you!

No problem. Happy to help.

I take it that you both are using the Norton Browser? Just wanting to clarify since I don’t use it. Thanks.

How do you disable deepfake protection?

Never mind. I disabled it and that seems to be the answer, but we’ll see.

I use chome

Great, this. Had big problems with Norton flagging logon.exe (yes,the one from MS) as an intrusion threat. Subsequently: msedge.exe (yes, also from MS) and, pretty recently: Norton had its eye on some executable from bitwarden. Now I came searching here again because of this. Nice work, Norton!

On the bright side, the DIY solution was already found. Thx for that!

I’m back and started “Norton LiveUpdate” right away:

Norton still crashes and there’s still an error in event manager but Norton now automatically restarts (the tray icon vanishes, then reappears 1-3 seconds later). This is still not a full fix.

Edit: On the ~10th video, Norton didn’t automatically restart, so the temporary “fix” isn’t working properly. Edit 2: Yes, that broke it, I reloaded 2 videos and Norton isn’t restarting automatically anymore.

@SoulAsylum

I disabled deep fake protection (once got a warning on a channel that definitely doesn’t use AI, so it’s not working correctly anyway), checked multiple channels and no more crashes (also no new errors in event manager). Once I re-enabled it, it started happening again. I’m still using Firefox (148.0.2 is still the latest version), not the Norton browser.

@AceCodes

I don’t think it depends on your hardware, out of 3 PCs (2x Intel, 1x AMD), only one of the Intels is affected, even though it’s pretty much the same as the other Intel PC hardware-wise (same CPU, same RAM model, just a different amount, same NVMe model,…).

Good to know its not hardware specific, just norton things I guess maybe by april we can get an update that fixes this issue.

so @AceCodes @Sim26 i was also facing these same things like norton getting off whenever i am using yt on brave and i was worried due to it. thanks for the help also will there be any issue if i disable the deep fake protection on it…

no issues as it does not work properly either way.

You misunderstood. I’m not having trouble with the installation (it was enabled by default), I’m having troubles with the thing crashing Norton for some reason when I want to watch Youtube, which we’ve been talking about in this thread for almost a week now. When are they going to release a fix for that? I’m paying for Norton but I haven’t been able to use it for already almost a week now because of this bug.

Regarding the recommended hardware: The affected PC is using an 8C/16T Intel Ultra cpu and 32GB of RAM, I think that’s sufficient for the thing to not run out of resources and crash the whole app.

Regarding the false positive: It warned me of “AI voices” four times: 1. When only sheep where baaing, 2. when their owner was talking (definitely not AI) and during 2 different music videos that also definitely didn’t contain AI voices. This thing is broken but that is not the main problem, I want the crashes to be fixed.

Hello @Sim26
We’ll try to call attention: No promises. No timeline.

May be best to document your experience via official Norton support.

Caveat: my entry level machine has not experienced Deepfake Protection.

Hello
@Selvakumar.S

Does official support not check these forums/do you gurus not forwards bugs like these to support?
