I use Norton 360 25.9 and Edge as my browser.
I changed the automatic program control in the firewall to “Ask me.”
This worked fine until Norton 360 22.x.
Since Norton 360 24.x, I can no longer load any pages in Edge.
Norton is set to allow Edge to access the internet.
But it doesn’t work.
Other programs, such as Firefox, work fine.
I have this problem on three computers.
When I set the firewall to automatic, Edge works.
But I don’t want to do that.

@Benutzer201 Do you also see any indication that Edge WebView is being blocked?

Thanks for the post back. If setting the Firewall, in the General Tab, under Automatic Program Contol to “Smart Mode” solves your issue. What is your reasoning for not choosing that solution?
SA
I want to decide for myself which programs are allowed on the Internet and which are not.

FWIW!! I just changed the “default rule” for Edge to “ask”, opened Edge and it loaded lightening fast. I then rechecked program control, under that same rule, Norton automatically reset it to smart mode. You may need to reset your firewall and start fresh with your settings to attain the right one that works for you.

i have the same issue, Norton keeps blocking edge and FileZilla
25.9.10453 (build 25.9.10453.954)
Microsoft edge does not work until i put mode allow
smart mode does not work with edge
even if i set edge allow manually it does not work
i need to put all mode to allow instead of smart mode
just wait ass im told there is soon a patch to fix that problem says norton it is just delay plus more on the way just so you now i got som patch note and that is what get fix plus more
@DustMystery FileZilla got blocked on my side a day or two ago. I had to go into the Firewall>Program Control>FileZilla and changes the default rule
Try doing the same with Edge, I have not had any issues with Edge my side.

@Benutzer201 Have you applied the suggestions that were posted? Ask isn’t going to work as we have said before. We also have no idea why nor when/if Norton will correct it.
SA
Yes I have test the suggestions. It doesn`t work

Det er sikkert en fejl sammen med nogle andre ting norton sender nok nogle hotfix ud til at fix det håber jeg
@SoulAsylum i tried multiple times and it does not work with any, today norton blocked Microsoft teams and it did not work until i put global mode to allow instead of smart mode
@globus5000 thanks for the info
Bare husk a senio teamet har en eta max 5-7 hverdage så jeg kan spørge om alt
Hoping someone Norton takes interest in correcting these firewall issues. Its like we find a workaround then overnight some small emergency patch blows things up again. Personally I am at my limit with suggestions for that reason. Chasing our tails isn’t cutting the mustard. This is a global company, they need to address quality control and most importantly, “clarity”.

Same issue here… Edge broke right as I installed Norton. Sadly, the fact that it BROKE the standard windows app but not chrome is wild.
Hello sir,
I also noticed now that I literally moved to ESET. (yes I uninstalled norton)
My pc is not bricked anymore. Yes Norton in default state made my PC unusable.
Latest drivers, 9800x3d, 4080s, 32gigs of ram in 2 sticks, nvme 5th gen boot.
Should not have made my PC unable to be used… could not find the driver conflict.
Sorry hearing you’ve abandoned Norton, I’ve come close to it on several occasions too with issues that continue returning also on an exact annual timing. They always have gotten straightened out, not without a ton of troubleshooting on my part no less. In the case of those posting here, I have to wonder whether any of you are using Co-Pilot + devices and/or any of the Edge features that rely on AI in a daily scenario. My current Edge is Version 141.0.3537.99 (Official build) (64-bit), no issues noted having it update just a minute ago.
I use Edge as a backup browser ( cannot remove it entirely and its not set as the default in Windows ). Opera GX for gamers has been my default browser having never once failed me in over three or four years now. Chrome is junk as is Edge, both are heavily focused on AI which is the new security threat on the block. Sticking with what provides me with the best experience has always been my rule of thumb unless something extremely nefarious presents itself.
