Norton 360 Hogging Computer and Disks at startup

Note: Please do not post Personally Identifiable Information like email address, personal phone number, physical home address, product key etc.

I have recently renewed my Norton 360 subscription for another 2 years and a newer version has been installed.

It is causing problems when the computer is started – I noticed that when trying to open any program response was very slow and often resulted in the program “not responding”.

I then noticed that the disk activity LED was fully lit (just like the power LED !!!).

By using Windows Resource Monitor I could see in Overview/Disk section that there were pages of instances of NortonUI.exe running that were accessing folder and files on my computer.

This resulted in Disk activity reading 100 MB/sec, sometimes 1 GB/sec, and this continues sometimes for over 30 minutes, during which time the computer is not really usable.

All this activity I believe is Norton doing scans as it seems the same as when I do a full scan which takes around 45 minutes.

I have used Norton for over 2 years and never noticed this before, it has only just started with the new version.

Has anyone any idea how I can stop this from happening ?

Also, this morning when I switched on I was greeted with a message “All of your protection is disabled. Enter your Product Key”. I did this and all was OK except for another wait while Norton hogged the disk drives again.

Any assistance on curing this issue will be much appreciated.

Regards,

Nick.
