Does this help?
http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_feedback&thread.id=3365&jump=trueHi Stu,
As I said in my posting I am running version 15.0.0.60. The patch is only for version 15.5. Thanks for trying.
Than why not uninstall this version and download the latest version from the Symantec website and use your license?
Firstly, I would recommend downloading the latest update of Norton Internet Security 2008:
http://www.symantec.com/newnis
Then run LiveUpdate to receive all updates, and the patch for Firefox 3 will be part of these updates. Thanks!
Tony,
As you suggested I downloaded the latest update of Norton Internet Security 2008. After upgrading I received a message that my subscription has expired. I tried to put my product key in but there are two many characters in my product key for this version. Of course since the program says that my subscription has expired I can't run LiveUpdate and get the patch. Suggestions for getting credit for the 142 days I have left on my subscription?
Sandy
On the Norton Protection Center tab, click "Subscription" in the bottom left of the main screen, and select the middle option "I have already purchased. Please check my subscription status." The area into which you were trying to enter your Activation Key is actually intended for a Renewal Code, which is why the number of characters is different.
Now, if this doesn't resolve the issue, I'd recommend contacting our free Customer Support:
http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/selectproduct_ts.jsp
They'll will be able to look up your account information quickly and resolve the subscription issue for you.
Hi Sfrank151,
This (subscription issues) seem to pop up every now and then.
Symantec will take great care of you - don't worry, life is far too short :) Are you able to prove when you purchased the software - for example, credit card transaction number because the product was purchased on the internet?
One of the really positive outcomes of this forum is that Symantec staff really get on top of the issues that we raise. Tony and the rest of the Symantec support folk are very approachable, very helpful and sort things out as quickly as possible. The second strength of the board is that it's hard to duck bad news and from my observation, none of the Symantec staff hide bad news: they work the problem and do their best to help all of us. Great stuff. Wish it would catch on in other software companies.
As for the update - please listen to what your fellow users (and tech gurus) are encouraging you to do. We are not affiliated with Symantec - free agents. Our opinions are our own. The advice of the gurus in particular is soundly based on solid experience. Of course you are perfectly entitled to do and think as you wish. But, with respect, you gain nothing by ignoring the advice and risk much:
seems like a poor risk management strategy to me.
This is not an 'optional' minor update - the file is about 70 megs in size.
BTW - Microsoft and other industry giants have recently collaborated to plug a security hole in the design of the internet. Windows alone have released a slew of updates. I know from the FF forum that they are hard ar work addressing the avalanch of bug reports. We should start to see new builds soon. Have you noticed that an army of add-on developers have been hard a t work getting their projects FF 3 compatible.
In other words, there really is a huge amount of change unfolding. I've seen nothing to suggest when it might get back to 'normal'. How long is a piece of string?
Cheers and good luck with your subscription problem ... work with Symantec, it will be fine.
Tony,
Thanks. I have been able to get the upgrade activated and NSI 2008 and Firefox 3.0 are working fine together.
During the process I lost the Scam Filter in Outlook. I downloaded the add-on pack and set it up. I know have a "Norton Anti-Spam Folder" in Outlook but I do not have the Anti-Spam Tool bar that I used to have. Any idea how I get that back?
Again thanks for your help with the Firefox problem.

What Outlook version are you working with?
Stu,
Outlook 2003 and Windows XP. Prior to upgrading from NIS 2008 v 15.0 to NIS 2008 15.5 I had the NIS toolbar in Outlook.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Sandy
Maybe you can find something in help --> disabled items?
or extra --> trust center ( I'm not sure if it is called that way? It's the third from under )
Hi Stu,
I don't have anything called "disable items" , "extra" or "trust center" in any of the drop down menus. Any other suggestions?
Sandy
Sandy,
Try checking the following:
1. Check to see if Outlook is integrated with Norton AntiSpam
a. Launch the Norton AntiSpam Options dialog
b. Under the Email \ Client Integration section, make sure "Outlook" is checked
c. Re-launch Outlook
2. If the toolbar still does not show up, check if Outlook has disabled the toolbar.
a. Launch Outlook 2003
b.From the menu, go to Tools \ Options
c. Click the "Other" tab
d. Click the "Advanced options" button
e. Click the "COM Add-Ins..." button
f. Make sure "Norton AntiSpam Outlook Plugin" is listed and checked.
g. Save changes and restart Outlook
Sandy, one more thing.
I missed that you upgraded from NIS 15 to 15.5. When you launch the Norton Protection Center, is there a Norton Add-On Pack tab next to Norton Internet Security? If not, you will need to download and install the AddOn Pack again.
James,
1. Outlook is integrated with Norton AntiSpam
2. In the "Coms Add-Ins" area "Norton Antispam Outlook Plugin" is not checked. I checked it, saved, closed and restarted Outlook. Still no tool bar. When I went back to "Coms Add-Ins" area "Norton Antispam Outlook Plugin" wasn't checked again.
3. I have installed the add-on package and it shows up when I open NIS.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Sandy
Sandy
I apologize for taking so long to reply.
It seems that either Outlook or some other application is disabling the AntiSpam toolbar.
There's one more option that you can try but it will involve editing the Windows registry directly. If you are not familiar with editting the registry, please do not do so.
1) Close Outlook
2) Launch C:\Windows\REGEDIT.EXE
3) Go to the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\MsouPlug.OutlookPlug.
In regedit, keys are displayed like folders
4) On the right pane of regedit, you should see a value named "LoadBehavior" and in your case, it's value is likely 0
5) Double click on "LoadBehavior"
6) Change the value to 3 and click OK
7) Check to make sure "0x00000003 (3)" is dispalyed in the "Data" column for "LoadBehavior". Do not close regedit.
8) Launch Outlook - Did the toolbar show up?
9) Go back to regedit and press the F5 key on your keboard. - Did "LoadBehavior" change?
If the toolbar doesn't show up, it is likely that Outlook is not allowing our add-in. I'll need to investigate more about Outlook's behavior to determine why.
Regards,
James
I am using Outlook 2003.
James,
I've checked Windows Registry and found that "0x00000003 (3)" was already displayed in the "Data" column for "LoadBehavior". Accordingly,I made no changes to the Registry. Still no AntiSpam toolbar.
Sandy
Hmm.
If possible, would you be willing to setup a webex conference with me so I can examine your system more closely? It will take me some time to set it up on my end, though.
While I get that setup, can you try a few more tests?
Process Explorer
Have you ever used this tool? You can download it from Microsoft (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx). There's no setup for it; just download, unzip, and run the exe.
What I'd like you to check is to see if Outlook is loading the AntiSpam plugin.
0) Launch Outlook
1) Launch Process Explorer
2) Press CTL+L (display lower pane)
3) Press CTL+D (display DLLs)
4) In the top pane, look for the OUTLOOK.EXE process It should be a child of explorer.exe
5) Click OUTLOOK.EXE
6) In the lower pane, look for MSOUPLUG.DLL
Lastly, in Outlook
1) In the menu bar, click TOOLS -> CUSTOMIZE
2) Click the Toolbars tab
3) Is "Norton AntiSpam Outlook Plugin" displayed and checked?
Thanks
James
