Hello,

I see the "View Summary" after the Session Completes; I assume that is what you meant...?

Windows' Firewall is Off.

What do you mean by "normally"?  Like I have mentioned, whether there are S.D.s or W.P.D.s, all Updates install no matter what component the Update is for.

Hi Floating_Red,

Yes, "View Summary" was what I meant - sorry for the confusion. And in another reading, I completely missed the problem you were reporting. To confirm, you are indicating that the small graphic that displays to the left of item being checked during a manual LiveUpdate does not actually spin/animate (not clear if the green check mark appears or not - I will assume it does as you did not mention it).

There are three graphics that animate here. The first is a slash, then the rotating dots, and finally a "resolution" (green check mark or red x). Can you confirm that it is the rotating dots only that is not animating (along with the blue bar not displaying)?

Quick add - have you updated your display adapter driver recently?

Thanks,

Matt

When I manually run N.LU., the blue bar which is meant to go up and the little circle which spins round in the items’ section does not go round.  It does install any Updates that there are.  Any way to Fix this?

Hello matt_phillips,

That is correct that the little rotating dots do not spin around; the blue bar does display, but the light-blue "light" does not go up the blue bar.  However, every for-five times I run N.LU., the little circles do spin and the light-blue "light".  I get the Green Tick or Red "X" whether the circles do/do not spin and the light-blue "light" does go up the blue bar.

Could you give me an example of the "display driver" to make sure that I know what you mean by that 100% to get this Resloved that as soon as possible.  :)

Hi again,

I think the most likely cause of the problem you describe with the LiveUpdate animations is with the display adapter (driver) for your video card. Manufacturers release new drivers fairly frequently to address issues and new technologies and obtaining and installing a new driver is relatively easy. The simplest way is to use Windows Update to check if what hardware drivers are available for your particular system. If you run a Windows Update  / Custom scan, you will see (listed in the left-hand pane) a section for available Hardware updates. If you see one available that mentions "display", try downloading and installing that.

If that fails to resolve the problem, please let us know.

Matt

Good evening,

I just installed a Hardware Update from the Windows' Update just yesterday (Tuesday, September 09); do you think that could cause it and, if so, do you advise the I un-install this Update?  If you need information on this Update, let me know and I will produce the information tomorrow.

Greetings,

If you can get the details of that update it may prove helpful. I would think that perhaps other animations might be similarly affected if that was the problem - have you noticed anything unusual graphically with any other programs since performing the update?

Thanks,

Matt

Season's Greetings (no, not Christmas, yet, l.o.l. :smileyhappy: ),

Everything seems to be running fine, as far as I am aware, although, I have not really used much programs after the Update was installed; just Norton LiveUpdate is really the only one so far.  Will keep an "open eye" on programs over the next few days/coming week.

Update name: Agere Systems P.C.I. Soft Modem.

Okay - good to know. I can't imagine that a modem update could cause what you described. I'm going to assume that there were no additional hardware updates available (please let me know if that is incorrect), which would mean that you are likely using the latest display (video) adapter driver.

Can you tell me what the manufacturer, make and model of your display adapter - along with the driver date - are? This information is accessible through the Device Manager (for XP, right click My Computer and select Properties, then click the Hardware tab and select Device Manager / Display Adapters) - the details will be listed there.

Thanks,

Matt

There was one other Hardware Update available but have not installed this.  If I re-call, this was not a Driver Update, but I could be wrong; let me know if you would like me to check.

Yeah, let's take a look. If it is related to display, go ahead and update it.

Matt

Hi Matt,

I still get feezes, but they do not happen as often.

I also get Updates that Norton LiveUpdate says was not installed.  For expample, I have a big V.D.s Update and Streaming Def.s Update.  When I click the View Summary, it said all Updates, including V.D.s and W.P.D.s had Failed, yet, on the U.I., it said the Definitons Updated was Seconds' ago.  I then Ran the N.LU. again, and LiveUpdate installed two W.P.D.s.  This seems to be happening with every Update.

Any idea how to Fix these Problems?

Will check the Windows' Update shortly.  :)

Hi Floating_Red

Okay, this is definitely turning into something much more serious than I initially observed. I'll send you a PM shortly with additional instructions.

Thanks,

Matt

Hello Matt,

The other Hardware Update was: Realtek Semiconductor Corp. Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC.

Okay, that one is for your network internet adapter, so it should not be part of the icon problem (or the larger LU problem you described). Thanks for checking it for me!

For now, I'd like to focus on the odd LU behavior and then circle back around on the icon display problem.

Matt

Exactly the same thing happened with me as it did with Red.  Four updates all of which failed; on the second try, I got two updates that made it through.  My guess was that the wrong package was put together, and the "handshake" failed; then the proper two updates were put in the update queue about that time.

(or something very like that)

I had four updates, two of which were I.P.S. and one was Streaming V.D.s and one was Norton 2009 V.D.s, that all Failed; the Definition Updates changed to "Seconds' ago" once again.

However, when I re-ran Norton LiveUpdate, for at least the fifth time was the same two Updates with the same size, it was a 1.66M.B. Update, which were two W.P.D.s.

When I checked my Log, the I.P.S.s had not been installed, so, I can confirm that some Updates will not install, or re-appear in N.LU., once they had Failed, so I have I.P.S.s which are coming on for three weeks' old, which is not good.

When Running a Full System Scan, the blue bar froze just like in LiveUpdate.

Also, the Scan took about 5hrs 40min.s, which is double the time it would take with N.I.S. 2008!  Think the "background tasks/Idle Scanning" will be causing this; do not like the Background Idle Scans.
