Issue abstract: Annoying pop-up after every reboot
Detailed description: After each reboot I get a pop-up window in the bottom right corner which says “Connected to new network”, “Firewall is protecting you on Unidentified network.” Sometimes it changes the network to Public, sometimes it stays Private. I have a desktop which wired into the internet. This is my home network and should be Private and the most secure way of doing it, yes? Norton support has been unable to figure out what is going on for almost 2 months now. The pop-up does not appear if I use just a wifi connection so maybe there is a glitch in the Norton software when detecting ethernet connections? Any suggestions? Thanks
Product & version number: Norton 360 25.4.10068 (build 25.4.10068.0)
OS details: Windows 11 Pro version 24H2 build 2611.3775
What is the error message you are seeing?
If you have any supporting screenshots, please add them:
Has anyone seen this and replied? Is Norton listening? This (and other notifications) is pretty annoying. BTW, it isn’t just after each reboot, it is anytime you change networks to another known network (awake from sleep/hibernate, change wifi, etc.)
@ANCIENTSTORYMAN@Cynthia_Epeneter Yes indeed, Norton is aware of this and a host of other issues with the Avast engine based products that are out. I invite you both to review a thread where myself and others are tracking issues are they’re reported there. Norton DOES indeed review that thread as well. That being said, the powers to be within Norton / Gen Digital appear to be 100% ok with the current model of marketing customers away from their products. Nothing we can do in that regard but we can and do continue giving the physical evidence its due process and hope for corrective action.
No, no replies yet Been through twice with customer support before this post. One of the calls lasted for over an hour with no result. Guess no one knows how to solve this. As a result, I have canceled the automatic renewal and am considering whether I should just uninstall the product now.
@ANCIENTSTORYMAN@Cynthia_Epeneter We don’t have access to what and when will change or even IF Norton will make changes to the product. One thing that is certain, removal of the marketing annoyances is NOT going away. That appears to be a business model most larger companies follow in the current world. For Norton. It was present as far back as the older version 22.24.8.36 but, is easier to disable in that version. Hoping Norton addresses this in a manner that makes a difference. The new product is seriously over aggressive and not user friendly. Some improvements have been made, just not ones that matter to the end user.
It is NOT marketing annoyances that I am worried about. Please refer to the image I posted above. It is that Norton 360 cannot identify my home network and changes it to a Public Network. This is on a desktop that does not go anywhere and to top it off is directly connected to the network with ethernet!!
So, after every reboot I have to first click away this annoying pop up from Norton, then change my LOCAL network back to Private so that this device, my main computer, has access to the other devices on the network.
As an aside, my laptop hardly ever has this same pop up come up. Of course, it is connected wirelessly. So, the main issue seems to be that Norton has trouble with an ethernet connection which it seems to think should be on a Public Network. Go figure. Also, looking into Norton’s settings under Firewall then Network it has the correct network name. In that case why on reboot does it identify it as an “unidentified network” but knows its name after running a bit?
That is my reference, in that, functionality, specifically control of it, is taking back door to sell-ups. Marketing space within the product. We are almost a year into the initial release version 24.xx with the new Avast engine, now its version 25.xxx and these overly aggressive functions which we no longer have ANY control over persist.
