how do i access my backed up files so that i can restore them to my computer
Hi jsatterlee,
It may take more time for you to delete the entire backup set from Secure Online Storage through Norton 360 program. I would suggest you to send a Private Message with your Norton Account Email Id or your Norton 360 Product Key to michael_shavell (Symantec Employee), with the request to clear the data from Online Storage and reset it. Let us know the results.
Yogesh
I contacted Tony Weiss and he is deleting the entire thing for me ty for the responce.
ral,
Probably you need to contact the support over here for getting the product code which you lost in the old system.
Also they will be able to give you the specifc instuctions on how to restore the Data at a single go.

I have the same problem, except I do not know how to even access my storage. Tech support said it can't be done. Can someone help.

Perhaps following the link and advice from KrisL may help.
I called Norton tech support and they said there was no way to pull the data onto the mac. The first poster appears to have find a way to do so. I'd like to know how.
Hello GSW
Have you created a new Computer, within Noroton Online Backup, to backup your Mac? If no, you will want to take that step first.
That can be accomplished by using these steps:
- Login at https://nobu.backup.com while you're on your Mac
- Click 'Add a Computer' in the upper left of the screen.
- Agree to the terms of service followed by downloading and installing the Mac client.
- Follow the steps once the client completes its installation by naming your new Computer, selecting files and configuring your backup schedule time.
- Once done you you will then be able to go to the older Windows Computer and direct a restore to the Mac as a batch instead. Refer to this article on restore instructions: How to Restore with Norton Online Backup
The critical thing to remember is the Mac has an entirely different file structure than Windows. Ensure you let it go to a new directory instead of trying to direct it to the original location. You do not want to tell the restore to try to go to original locations since they won't exist in any way.
Also please note 20+GB is going to take some time to compile and then download. I'd suggest selecting the key items you need first, let them restore and then go after the other items.
My first upload yesterday. I immediately noticed the slowness.
1) Everyone's NOMIMAL max upload speeds, as specified by their ISPs, are significantly slower than their nominal download speeds.
2) Everyone's ACTUAL upload and download speeds are slower than the nominals.
3) End service (NOB in this instance) providers can limit transfer rates intentionally.
4) End service providers' system /network capabilities are a performance factor.
My 384MB test took 7:21. Slower than yours.
My identical service by another provider did 9GB in two days (can't remember number of hours). Faster than Norton, both in my case and in yours.
Online backup speed is totally dependent upon your broadband speed to UPLOAD files, I wouldn't even consider using online backup for music or video due to the vast amount of data involved.
Far better to use a USB type external drive, much faster and efficient and might I add safer.

Thanks Deric. That is really helpful. I have backed up onto an external hard drive but this was supposed to be an extra! I am 20 percent transferred now. Would you recommend that I cancel the back up and start again just backing up the photos? Or since I have got this far should just bite the bullet and continue? I am going to end up with far too much empty space if I cancel, but never mind!! I just wish the software forewarned you of the implications of backing up the music and video - for the benefit of those of us who are not as experienced as others. I shall know in the future.
Hi KathyH,
There are a lot of people out there that use online backup, one of the arguments is that if you have a major catastrophe and all your data is destroyed at home, your precious data is still retained online.
When you have to Download and retrieve your data the speed will be about 3 or more times faster, so once you have uploaded the files the big job is done.
You know what they say, you live and learn, so in your case maybe let it run the full course and then assess the pros and cons of online backup.
My view is of course purely personal but lessons can be learnt from your experience, slow transfer of data can be so frustrating, good luck.
Deric
Hi all,
Just FYI, we don't limit your upload speed on our end in any way (although I'm pretty sure we have bandwidth throttling as a setting) and we are not near capacity on network or disk I/O. As has been mentioned in the thread your limiting factors are going to be your ISP and whatever distance the data has to travel in order to reach our data centers.
I personally back up pictures online and music/video to a local disk. Reason being, if I lost my music in a house fire I would be sad but I could get over it. Family photos etc are not replaceable. Since we have accounts of just about every size, individual interest in online backup varies dramatically =)
Hi drshlomo,
I installed Norton online backup again today. I have chosen backup of each item in the menu and started backup. Result: nothing, absolutely nothing was backed up. So why use this program once more?
Thanks for your reply, have a nice day!
I used Norton On-line Backup for several years, then last year it quit, and despite Norton support, even at the highest level no one could fix it. Suddenly after 3 months it started to work again, and no one new why. I therefore stopped using it.
olliebollie Hi,
Please tell us which problems arose because many millions of users are oroblem free using this program, including me.
Of course, you can give up but backing up on a very reliable cloud ensures that a computer malfunction can be negated and allow the restoration of lost or damaged files.
drshlomo.
As long as you have purchased within 60 days, you can request a refund. Contact Norton Support at www.norton.com/contactcs
