Norton opening Microsoft Edge to promote browser stuff

How do I stop it from doing this? I've only noticed it today and it's done it TWICE in the span of a few hours. It will auto open Microsoft Edge (which I don't even use) on my other monitor and tell me about some browser extension that I don't give a toss about. Someone please tell me how to turn it off because I am SO close to getting rid of Norton. I really have begun to hate it over the past few years with its endless pop ups and ads and opening a whole window to spam me with an ad is an absolute p*** take and it's going too far.

Hahahaha here's another one. Pressed "don't ask me again" 500x on this one already. They really don't give a sh** do they.

fwiw ~ and not defending Norton behavior:
Chrome Protection Alert may be related to recent Chrome &or Norton extension update

Another day - another Norton Pop-up to say I have not installed all extensions in Edge. Norton, please note - I KNOW - I don't want them - why does 'Don't remind again' not work. Why would I  want these extra's, when there are various threads on Norton where people are having issues with them.

The problem is that Norton does not understand the word 'OFF' . I have always had mine set to OFF, makes no difference, always check after an update to make sure still OFF. Also check that Smart Scan is OFF, had Norton turn that on without my knowledge so it had been running without me being aware, just fell upon it one day when History showed a scan had happened, this was after SDS defs received and quick scan auto ran after that, Smart scan run even though no subsequent LUD's received. This bullying by Norton is now getting out of hand. Norton seemed to have overtaken Microsoft in this respect.

Well, if you've tried below: then it may be time to follow The Old Professor [here]

Did you try Don't show again?

Norton blitz marketing...try mouse hover over pop-up X
if you see "Don't show again"....click "Don't show again" -- not the X

Did you try Auto Smart Scan Off or Edit schedule to your preference

Schedule Norton scans
Your Norton product detects when you are away from your computer and automatically runs scans to assure that your system is regularly monitored for threats. You can also schedule Smart Scan, Quick Scan, Full Scan, or your own Custom Scan to run on times of your choosing.

A lot of the replies are misinterpreting my issue. It isn't about Edge or which browser the ad opens in, it's the fact that I'm even getting the ad to begin with. These ads even show up when I have a fullscreen application running and sometimes it causes my program to crash all for the sake of telling me some absolute rammel about a browser extension that I don't want.

Another case of Firefox opening by NORTON - do you not understand at Norton do not want all these rubbish items interfering with our lives, we thought we were independent beings- Norton think otherwise & keeping interfering with our privacy & independence - HALT all the rubbish NOW. What you are doing is bordering on illegal and deserves reporting to Government Phishing & will be done next time any one these trying to interfer with any of my computers. Please heed this warning.

+++++

I am so sick of this as well! The constant pop-ups that come back even though I click "do not show again", how Norton opens a GD browser window to push their lame browser extensions, etc. is malware. People have posted complaints about this over and over for years; obviously, Norton doesn't give a crap about their customers. I am looking for a new malware tool, and %$#@ off to Norton.

I also had a Windows update that called the Edge browser after the restart. Probably after an update to the edge browser. As I don't use Edge, the first time it opens, it gives the Norton Extensions 'suggestions' page.

fwiw ~ on my dust collector W10 machine...after Windows Update - Error encountered...Edge called Norton...Don't forget browser protection!...page.  Don't recall this behavior.  I was not able to reproduce.  Edge - Norton extensions are disabled.

Chrome is Windows default browser.

Open the classic 360 interface by right clicking on the Norton icon in the system tray and then click on Open 360. Then click on the Internet Security pillar and look to see what is listed at the top for the Browser. If edge is shown there, that would explain why Edge gets opened to display the browser protection message. This default browser notation is just for links opened by your 360 app. It is not indicating the Windows system default browser.   CORRECTION  That is how the 360 notation used to work. Thanks to @bjm_ I tested this again and changing the Windows default browser will change the browser shown in 360. BUT, I also tested the other way around and changing the browser in 360 did not affect the Windows default browser. So you can have a different default browser for your 360 if you wish.

these seem to appear after a build/patch update

has for some years now

just close the window and thats it

I use Edge as  primary browser, not seen this on Edge, have Firefox also installed which don't use that often but, couple of days ago, same as described above, Firefox self opened with exactly same message. You are probably the same as me, I only want what I need, not what Norton wants me to have, been taking lessons from Microsoft also forcing stuff on you. Got to be something Norton think amusing.

Hello @Kososen
Sorry, I've no notion what's triggering your Edge - auto open.
Do you have any Norton extensions installed/enabled with Edge?

I'll install Norton Safe Web extension - cycle browser - and then disable Norton Safe Web extension.

fwiw ~ I've not seen Edge - auto open.

I've no notion whether my practice will sort your Edge - auto open.
