@Tarin Do you by chance have AMD graphics on the “other pc” being affected? The process “amdow” represents AMD software, specifically Radeon Overlay. Next time this issue appears please press the ALT+R keys to see if the issue disappears or gives you a setting to change related to its IME ( Input Method Editor ). I’m going out of the box with things to get something concrete going for you guys.
AI Overview
The user query “AMDOW default IME” appears to have a typo and
likely refers to the default IME (Input Method Editor) setting in AMD’s software, but there is no direct “default IME” setting in their graphics drivers or software. The query might be a misunderstanding of what “IME” means in this context, or the user could be looking for default hotkeys for different software features, such as the Radeon Overlay, which is enabled by default and can be opened with Alt+R.
Here are some possibilities for what the user might be looking for:
Radeon Overlay
Default hotkey: Alt+R
Function: Allows users to adjust gaming and visual settings and monitor performance.
How to change: Users can enable or disable the overlay and change the hotkey in the Radeon Settings under the Preferences section.
Performance Hotkeys
Default hotkeys: Ctrl+Shift+L for Performance Logging and Ctrl+Shift+O for Performance Overlay.
Function: Toggles performance logging and overlay on or off.
How to change: Users can change or disable these hotkeys in the AMD software settings.
Resetting to default settings
If the user wants to reset the entire AMD software to its default state, they can use the “Factory Reset” option in the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition application.
Setting a default GPU for an application
This is not an IME but a related graphics setting. Users can set a default GPU for a specific application through the AMD Radeon Settings.
How to change: Navigate to System > Switchable Graphics in the Radeon Settings, find the application, and assign it a preferred GPU.
Since there is no specific “default IME” in AMD software, it is most likely that the user is trying to access the Radeon Overlay or the performance hotkeys.
Somehow this is resolved for me and I don’t know how. The only thing I know is I did the error log upload as one of the support guy reached out to me on my email. It took about 10-15 days since the upload, but it seems resolved now. Even my focusmonitor.exe is not showing any focus grabs from Norton UI anymore.
The problem has reoccurred, with application focus being lost once again. According to FocusMonitor.exe, the Norton UI continues to be responsible for stealing focus. While investigating, I noticed that Norton indicated a pending system restart to complete the installation of the latest Norton Security release (version 25.12.10659). I proceeded with the restart, and since then I have not encountered the issue again.
My assumption is that after I submitted diagnostic logs to support, an interim fix was deployed to my system—most likely delivered automatically through LiveUpdate. When the newer Norton Security version (25.12.10659) was rolled out, that temporary fix may have been rolled back or overwritten, which could explain why the issue resurfaced. Hopefully, the restart finalized the new version and permanently addressed the problem.
In general, I have confidence in and respect for the Norton team. I am, after all, relying on them to safeguard my system and protect my data, and they are a well-known and trusted organization. That said, I do hope issues of this nature are identified and resolved earlier, with clearer communication, and without recurring, as repeated disruptions can be stressful and frustrating for users.
At this point, everything appears to be functioning normally, and I am optimistic that the issue is now fully resolved.
Hello, I haven’t posted here for over a year, since I reverted to the old Norton version before having anything to do with Avast and I never had the problem since. I renewed my subscription around a month ago and forgot to disable updates, so I am on this new/current version again. For the 2-3 first weeks, I never had this happen, however now it started again, and even though it’s way rarer than before, it’s still annoying, especially when playing games like OP, where loosing focus even for a second can be devastating. Maybe the people here talking about Avast are onto something, as far as I know the old version of Norton does not have anything to do with Avast (I was using N360-ESD-22.24.8.36-EN and manually updating the definition through a site SoulAsylum provided in another thread).
So it was this program all along… Norton.. You disturb my programming SO MUCH. It drives me nuts when I’m coding and suddenly the focus goes away and I can’t type. You know how much you ruin MY WORK? And I GIVE MONEY to you, and you make me lose work.
And while you’re at it, allow me to disable software updates checking!
Edit: And yes, it recently updated, and still gives this problem.
I am having the same problem. Support contacted me and said it would be fixed in Ver. 26.1, but it hasn’t been fixed. It occurs once every two weeks. It’s a nuisance virus, even though it’s antivirus software.
This issue occurred again today, March 10th.
It’s occurring with the latest patch, 26.2.
This issue has been occurring intermittently since last summer.
It’s very annoying, and I’ve had some issues.
As other threads have mentioned, many people are having trouble.
