Norton support told me today that version 8.8.1 is coming with fixes.
Thanks for posting your experience. I am going to reinstall and give it a bit more time as maybe I didn’t give it enough time.
I’ll post back in a few days
I am using Norton AV Plus and Norton 360 for different computers. Since 8.8.1 dropped, my scan times keep getting faster for both the boot drives and the Time Machines. It appeared that Norton took longer to update at least once after 8.8.1 arrived. I forced manual updates and rebooted the first few days and now everything works.
I am moving on from Norton on my Mac. 8.8.1 was causing my Time Machine backups to be extremely slow in completing. It seems like it is just one thing after another with the Mac version of this software. When a problem is found, it takes two months to get it fixed....we lived with not being able to complete a manual scan for two months.
I have uninstalled Norton and am going back to Intego. They know how to write Mac software and it does not have all these issues.
Thank you for the reply. I shall look to reinstall it in a few days time and hopefully the scanning issue is now resolved.
Yes, this is the updated version. I just used that installation version to install on my M1 Pro. Finished a full scan (about 1.2m files) and seems to be working correctly now. A few days will tell....
I downloaded the programme and it said Version: 8.8.1f76 which I presume means 8.8.1 build 76?
I ran a manual live update, then a full scan. A popup came during the scan saying there was an update. After I clicked it, Norton rebooted. I rebooted the computer and was able to complete a full scan that finished - both on the M1 MBA and the 2017 iMac. I also see items logged properly.
I had this installed on another VM, and after a manual Live Update I ran a full scan without rebooting. I stopped it after it reached over 300k files (which was way more than the VM had on it). I rebooted and then ran the full scan and it completed after about 120k files, which is more realistic.
So, looks like a reboot after the update is in order (even though the product doesn't force it)
Norton AV Plus and Norton 360 upgraded to Version 8.81, build 76 this morning!
On my M1 MBA and 2017 iMac, I still see build 122 and version 8.8.
Version information is Build 76, version 8.8.1
In my VM, it completes a full scan
Still not able to get the upgrade. Can you confirm that Norton finally finishes a full scan? Thanks.
Yes, build and version changed. Run a manual live update and then exit Norton and open again. I didn’t have to restart the Mac (virtual machine)
Not at my computer so I can’t get the build number but version is 8.8.1
Did the version number and/or the build number change? I don't see it yet.
Looks like 8.8.1 is available via live update now.
Please let us know what the editor at Macrosld.com comes up with.
I took Norton 360 off one computer. Over the weekend, I found Norton AV Plus for Mac for less than $15.00, so I bought it to see if maybe it was a different version. It was 8.8. It still has all the 8.8 issues but it runs live update automatically.
I also wrote to an editor at Macworld.com and outlined the issues we have been facing for over a month. He said he would look into the problem. He agreed that Macs need virus protection. Who knows?
I tried to download it today and the 'get info' on the download said it was 8.8.0.
