Norton Utilities 15

ininss,

Could you clarify what you're adding to the conversation?  I see an item that might be an image with nothing else provided.

Could you send me a private message with your email address.  Also identify that you are contacting me with this NU issue.  I have a file that I can send you to test to see if'll fix your issue.

Thanks for the fix.  Hopefully it will soon be released to everyone else and fix this problem once and for all.

Hi Aravindan,

This procedure is for Norton Utility "14".

There are not "RMTray.exe" and "RMReg.exe" in Norton Utility "15".

The Fix that I previously tested for Erik is out related to DEP. He had me remove it after testing.

To get it installed you may have to temporarily turn off DEP except for essential Wiindows programs and services. Restart windows. Then run Norton utilities and immediately run Smart Update. Afterwards turn DEP on for all programs and restart windows again. Not sure if you still have to add NU as an exception (mine is still there since Tech's had tried that first).

Windows XP Service Pack 3

Norton Internet Security  18.6.0.29

I purchased a copy online and received the key code about six months ago. Now everything I start utilities it requests the key code again. EVERY TIME! and then fails activation. EVERY TIME! This is the same issue that occured in Feburary.

Fix? Suggestions?

I would recommed to install the new NIS version, and also with this a reinstall of Norton Utilities as well.

Here are the steps:
1. If you use the feature, please backup your Identity Safe data
2. Download latest Norton Internet Security installer from here (this is the English one, for other languages please go to the Norton Update Center: www.norton.com/nuc ) and the Norton Utilities 15 installer from here
3. Download the Norton Removal Tool: www.norton.com/nrt
4. Disconnect from internet
5. Remove Norton Internet Security and Norton Utilities from Start Menu or from Control Panel -> Add or Remove programs
6. Reboot
7. Run the Norton Removal Tool, reboot (repeat it 2-3 times)
8. Install Norton Internet Security 2012
9. Reconnect to the internet
10. Activate it with your 2011 serial
11. Run Live Update until you get no new updates
12. Restore your Identity Safe data

13. Install and activate Norton Utilities 15

You can check how the Norton Removal Tool works in this video.

I have just joined the forum. I bought the Norton Utilities 15 on 8/11/11. It worked on the day I downloaded it and I don't remember using an activation key. I tried to us it this week, but it asks for an activation key that has not been sent to me by email. I have checked. I have followed the instructions from online support help, Nathan, but my account shows that the Norton Utilities 15 is now closed and a key cannot be accessed.

Has this been a way of the company getting extra money from customers without providing a genuine product or can someone provide me with assistance, please?

Thank you

I've recently installed Norton Utilities 15 on my MacBook Pro (it has both MacOS10 and Windows 7 installed); I set Utilities (I think) to do a disc check at boot up and now the computer won't boot up (in Windows) - it starts a Norton disc check and then says there is a problem and tries to fix it but it can't; I've tried starting in Safe Mode but it hangs part way through. HELP

Utilities 15 makes changes to my Internet Explorer 9 home page each time I run utilities.

Is there a way to prevent this from happening?

Thjanks for any help

Just installed NU v15. Here's a surprise, after using Registry Mechanic for the last 3 years, NU functionally looks exactly like RM! Not cosmetically, but functionally. However there are some differences, RM seemed to work better. Sorry Symantec.  Here's an issue, RM did a fine job in cleaning the registry.  NU leaves 39 custom control issues behind with no explanation why they are not cleaned. Invalid entries.  I saw a post that said to mark them "ignored" but in my mind that's not acceptable.

What about this? I want invalid entries removed, not ignored. Any fix for this kind of error or should I just go back to Registry Mechanic?

And, how is it that these two are so much alike, even down to the price and installation variables.

Hm?

Hey, I appreciate the response!  Now, before I send the info, I need to know some behavior characteristics of the registry.  From your comment, tell me about temporary keys and what makes them persist. Are temp keys always present and necessary (similar to empty folders and files used by programs - which would make sense to me).  If the temp keys are manually deleted would that adversly affect the function of an associated application?  Appreciate your feedback. Have a good day.

Windows stores some different items in the registry what we can call temporary. These can be eg. shared files or different history lists. Removing these items will cause you no harm, as if a program currently using any of these keys, it will not allow NU to remove it. It's just the same like deleting a file while it is opened -> with most programs that can not be done.

I purchased Norton Utilities 15.0.0.124 and installed it on one of my laptops several months ago. I then repaired another laptop and attempted to install it on it using the code on the About dialog and it didn't work. How do I install to the second and third computer - I understand that the program is licensed for 3 computers?

Welcome crvoss,

Did you purchase from Symantec on line,  or from a retail store?  If you purchased from a retail store,  the Product Key you need will be on the CD sleeve,  but if you purchased on line then the Product Key would probably be listed in your Order History in your Norton Account.

When you find the Product Key it needs to be entered exactly as it is displayed.

If you have troubles finding it, you can contact Customer Support.  Live Chat is usually the quickest.  You can reach them at http://www.norton.com/chat.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks,  Dave.

I looked at my Norton Account and found Norton Internet Security but did not find Norton Utilities yet I did download it and paid for it. How do I proceed?

Hi,

Your Norton Accoount keeps track of your subscriptions not your licenses. Might be something to post about in the product suggestions forum.

Where did you download it from?

Thanks

Dick,

I purchased NU15 from a retail store and when I log in to my Norton account there is an option to View Order History.  When I click that it brings up Norton Utilities 15.  Clicking View reveals details including my Product Key for NU15.

Thanks,  Dave.

Dave,

Agreed, the information is in the order history, but it is not in the subscription history as it is not a time sensitive subscription. My bad for not being more specific. :smileysad:
