Norton VPN problem: change connection settings option disappeared

I set up Norton on one of my machines a year ago and customized it to my needs. I use VPN all the time and I had to change VPN protocol to “mimic” in the settings of the VPN as only it works normally in my conditions.

Recently I set up Norton on a new machine, I went to the VPN connection setting menu and did not see there this option to change the VPN protocol, it is just not there. So the VPN on this machine is not working normally.

Does anyone know what this might be related to? Reinstalling the program did not help.

Some have VPN protocol settings, others don’t, like me, and others had them but they disappeared.

And at the same time, all Norton VPN users with the antivirus protection feature have a protocol switch. WireGuard, by the way, connects there much faster than in Norton 360, where there is no choice of other protocols.

Hello @Napoleon
What’s your Norton product?
Norton 360?
Norton VPN Plus/Ultimate?

Different users with the same version of Norton 360 have a VPN protocol switch, some do not, some had it initially, but then it disappeared. Everyone should have it, since some countries block the WireGuard and OpenVPN protocols, and without a switch there is no technical possibility to use Mimic, which is resistant to this. And parallel installation of Norton 360 and Norton VPN is impossible.

and what does Norton support say about missing protocol settings?

and the picture here with “VPN protocol settings” is from your/whose Norton 360 v25.3.9983?
I do not have “VPN protocol setting” with my Norton 360 v25.3.9983
I imagine Norton VPN Plus/Ultimate users have “VPN protocol settings”.
Is this pic here from Norton VPN Plus/Ultimate?

what’s the path to the protocol files?

Maybe, when Norton VPN Plus/Ultimate were released…Norton removed “VPN protocol settings” from Norton 360 to differentiate their offerings. IDK

Norton product branding/offerings/entitlements may vary by geo-location/country & by vendor.

Norton 360 and Norton VPN products with antivirus protection. Norton 360 has more antivirus protection settings.
Norton VPN has fewer fine-grained protection settings, but more server locations in different countries and cities.

Yes, as I’m just hearing [here]

Norton 360 LifeLock Ultimate plus has city VPN locations on IOS but cities do not show up in Windows 25.7.10308 (build 25.7.10308.945) (countries only).

How do I get city locations in windows?

Cities selection is only available in Norton VPN.

Are you sure you are seeing this in the 360 iOS app? I just checked mine again and there is only country choices for virtual location.

(Can only upload one image! smh)

On my IOS the VPN is a separate app (which is available in the app store). In windows it is a selection within Norton 360.

I found a Norton standalone VPN with a 30-day trial -Norton VPN Standard- but get “Something went wrong - please try again later

Request Id : a7b1b6f1e18707bc7606709b8c211a5a” when trying to download.

The new separate VPN will not install on a Windows system if you have 360 installed. This appears to be because the new VPN app contains malware protection similar to the 360 app. It is not as robust or controllable, but Norton has decided that there should only be one or the other on the system at the same time.

That explains why my last reply noted no city locations in the 360 app. That control level is only available on the standalone VPN iOS app.
