Norton Web Safe

H everyone, one member is looking into an issue for me however if my own website displays as untested in web Safe catagories when viewed on google or similar, and my site is scheduled for testing, can i still verify the site as safe which is what i have been tring to do, or do i have to wait until Norton catagorizes it is unsafe before I register a dispute ?

Any help appreciated,

Kind Regards

Andy

Hi Andy,

I believe the procedure for registering a dispute is only if your site receives what you believe to be an unfair rating:

"If you feel that your Web site has been given a rating by Norton Safe Web that is unfair or inaccurate, you can easily request a re-evaluation."

To the best of my knowledge, registering a dispute while your site is still in the evaluation stage will not speed up the process.

I see that you have added a review and identified yourself as the site owner.  I think it always lends credibility when a "real person" is willing to take responsibility for a site and it's content.

Hang in there, with the popularity of the Norton SafeWeb rating system, a lot more sites are trying to acquire that badge of approval.

Hi Phil, thanks for responding yet again!

I think you have confirmed my thoughts and I will just wait until Norton has had chance to evaluate my site.

I think I jumped in too quickly.

Thanks for all of your help

Much appreciated.

Kind Regards

Andy

No problem.

I can fully understand that you are anxious to have the Norton SafeWeb "seal of approval".

Hi Roll-VT,

Have you registered with Safe Web? If you have not done so, please go to this link:

http://safeweb.norton.com/help/site_owners

If this is the case, just to be sure: did you try following Phil's instructions at the links below?

Automated (traditional) website verification method:

http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_feedback&message.id=78970#M78970

Description of meta tag method (alternative method):

http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_feedback&message.id=78973#M78973

A meta tag is a container for the Norton Safe Web authentication code which you can add to your website; it enables, in the case of your website verification, a (non-automated) verification process. You can also read more on meta tags/meta elements over here on Wikipedia :-)

Hello Tom,

Following the advice from Yaso will definitely point you in the right direction.

I have checked the Serif WebPlus X2 website and found some information that should be specific to your site and Serif WebPlus X2.

I see that you already have one keyword, "Roll VT" entered in the keywords Meta Tag for your Home Page.

The following information is based upon content (.pdf) from the Serif WebPlus X2 site:

To set or edit keywords for a page:

1) Open your home page in the editing program.

2) Click Edit, then Page Properties.

3) Click the Search tab.

4) Where you see "Roll VT" entered, add your Norton Safe Web authentication code by copying the 128 character authentication code (supplied in your confirmation email) and pasting it after "Roll VT", separating the entries by a comma.

It should look something like this when you are done: Roll VT, zz-0123456-abc ....

(an example of nortonsw code is in blue text)

5) Click OK and publish the page.

Let us know how you do with this.

Hi Tom,

The authentication code in your keywords meta tag is properly placed and I shall notify the Safe Web team who will manually verify site ownership. Allow them a day or two to respond back to you in this thread.

(This method will not allow for the automated verification process within the Norton Safe Web portal, so please don't be concerned about trying to verify that way.)

Once ownership has been verified, your site will be queued for the rating evaluation.

Be sure the code remains in place until ownership is verified. Leaving the code in the meta tag will not affect your site or the visitor's experience.

Best wishes for your website!

If you would like to be notified by email when a reply is posted, go to My Profile > Preferences and check the box for: "Automatically Subscribe Me to Threads I Participate In".

Hi Tom,

We cannot find a site owner registration for 'roll-vt.co.uk'.

Can you please re-check the name of site you have registered as owner for?

In the meantime,we have queued 'roll-vt.co.uk' for analysis.

This site should get rated shortly on ‘safeweb.norton.com’.

Hello John

You are very welcome. If you have more sites, could you please start another thread so that the threads don't become too long.?
