Please Return The Local Vault

Cesararocha

Thanks for the info. I'll check into Kaspersky Pure again. I had shyed away from Kaspersky because, as you said, the last time I checked, it was having problems and/or couldn't keep up with Firefox.

Can you turn Bitdefender's password manager off so you can use another one? Did you have other problems with BD?

Thanks!

Hi Maverick,

Maybe you could start a thread in Tech Outpost about the pros and cons of different password managers.  I'd prefer to keep this thread about the local vault in Norton products.

Thanks.

Nikhil_CV,

I previous searched LastPass' website trying to determine where they store your data, but could not find where they state that it can be stored locally only. I rejected LastPass because of that. If you can point me to where they state your data can be stored locally only, I'd appreciate it.

FYI, I just saw some stories about how their datacenter went down a couple of days ago, and their users/customers could not login to websites because their data/credentials were unavailable.

Thanks.

Hi Rainbow_2,

Thanks for the link. I had actually read the article linked in the post you linked. It's one of the reasons I'm trying out the free version of Dashlane right now.

Thanks again!

Good point Krusty13!

Maverick, BD is not for me, being 100% honest.

It does not provide you as config options as Kaspersky and Norton do. It seems to be made for those who don’t like to configure, because it’s pretty much “plug-and-play” oriented (what wouldn’t be a problemas if they provided you with advanced config options).

That (besides the password manager problemas) were the reasons that made me left it. On top of this, I did wanted to use a password manager that were integrated with the security suite and not an additional element…

I hope this help you, some way.

Not sure why Norton won't listen to customers and feel they need to control our passwords.  When my Licence is up

(or sooner) I'll be checking on what else  is available.

Hi ALL,

The following came from a post I responded to regarding a "paid StandAlone ID safe".  I thought it might be a suggestion worth sharing here:

Yes, there is a process called NST.exe *32 which is currently using 8324 K.

The OP wrote << I would much rather pay for a straight forward password keeper that has some support and 411 for and some assurance of app stability >>

Paid or free // stand alone or integral to NS / NSwB we'd all want a straight forward password keeper that has some support and some assurance of app stability.

I find this funny to a certain degree.  Why?

IMHO, the Local Vault is the best Identity Safe function that has existed and still does in Comcast's Norton Security Suite and on some of the users systems who have maintained the Local Vault.  Why Norton has (attempted to) take that option away fro users is hard to understand/swallow.

Others may chime in who have had different experiences,  but I can state that I have used the Local Vault with IE 10 on three different systems running both Win 7 (2 desktops) and Vista (laptop) for the past few years with no problems what so ever with signing in, losing log-ins during update/upgrades, and other situations experienced with the Online Vault.

True I do not have the luxury of using the Local Vault with other devices, but perhaps the thought development of a "paid"  Local Stand Alone Multi-Device Identity Safe might be the way to go.  Each device would have it's own Local Vault and with a little work by the user, could be maintained with the same log-ins (possibly having to use Export/Import) or maybe even having the auto-backup as the Online Vault currently has - making them importable into another device.

To me the suggested options are unlimited.  Just thinking - what about adding the option to have both Local and Online Vaults with the paid "Stand Alone Multi-Device Identity Safe " ?

I will copy and paste this post into the Local Vault thread on the Product Suggestion Board.

Please, please restore the option of a local vault for Identity Safe.

I have Norton Internet Security version 19-9.1.4 running on three computers because (like others) I will not trust my data on a cloud with the current version. The version works perfectly on three computers. Last night during the renewal of my Norton product my one computer refused to renew on one of my computers. It says my Norton "trial" (?) has expired and it wants me to upgrade. I will NOT upgrade to any version that forces me onto the cloud. I still have the original file for the old product on an external drive but there is something somewhere (assuming the registry) that is telling the computer that this file is a trial disk. Its not. Its a program I paid for and downloaded from Norton years ago. Does anyone know how to sweep the registry so my older Norton product will recognized the product key again which I paid for and currently on my Norton account page?

Or ... Does anyone know of another company who provides a program that allows a person to save passwords and credit card data in a local vault instead of someone else's computer (oops I mean a pretty white puffy innocent cloud) ?

Instead of ignoring everyone, maybe Symantec could tell users why they CAN'T reintroduce a local vault.

Can't, or WON'T ?

Fully agree - I hate to have personal details floating around the rther!

Annoyed to lose my Local Vault

Kudos to Phone man, Permalink and all others who have helped with 'retaining local vault' as I can attest to the success of the work around on a new Dell desktop and notebook, both running Win10 (with IE 11)

I just updated from my old Vista machine (which worked great!), and now added Norton to my new system.  I now find that I no longer have a local vault!  Is this a joke?!  Who in their right mind would put passwords on "the cloud?"  What is more secure, the passwords of millions of users in one place, or millions of passwords in millions of places?  Symantec could go one step further by painting the word "Цель" (Russian) on its cloud's servers.

Sorry Symantec ... but you may be losing a customer when my license expires in a few months.  Unbelievable.

I am another long time user of Symantec products, who would 'quit before switching' (to cloud). I thought I found a work around in these forums, to retain my 'local vault' from a previous install, and then upgrade to Security Premium on my new Dell with Windows 10. However, after reading above post (Boing-14 Jan-2016) am I to understand the work around will not work on Windows 10?

Somebody please clarify, as I just removed McAfee from my Dell and installed a 30-day trial version of Security Premium.

Well said, avjohnnie.  yes

Well Krusty it's been approximately 3 years and 2 months since you began this thread...

During that time a good many have flogged this deceased equine with admirable vigor. Yet the "Powers on high" at Symantec responsible for setting their pursuits policy have ears that (when it comes to hearing the pleas and cries of customers,) are every measure just as defunct as the auditory capability of that poor dead horse.

When one considers how many times over these 3-years that the online-vault system's usability has been in some way unfit to usability (failed, had issues, lost contents, compromised?, etc., etc., etc.) doesn't it just boggle to ponder -- by what justification is maintained this steadfast persistence in supporting such a "cloudy" concept as their one-and-only "best suited to task" methodology?

Wow... What an absolute total fiasco... What pursuit of folly... What pigheadedness...

Three years (and counting) and the online-vault system still doesn't work reliably - but they're still pushing the idea as being the best they can do...The best they can come up with...Everything the customer could possibly want...It's just the best; Trust us - or, so we are told.

Yes I agree.  I miss the local password vault.  I refuse to use the cloud!

The Comcast version called Norton Security Suite uses a local vault with no option for a cloud vault.  So the coding for a local vault is still in use.  Why not make it available for all Norton products?

I agree- I feel much safer with a local vault only.
