Problem with µTorrent , Please help

Hey

It's been 3 years that I've been using µTorrent and never had this problem before, it just started yesterday exactly after I installed Norton Internet Security.

It's like µTorrent goes out of control, the CPU & Memory usage gets higher & higher till it gets to a point that it slows down my system to a Hang-like situation. When I exit µTorrent everything goes back to normal, and when I start µTorrent again, the same story ...

Anybody got any idea ?

Thanks

I'm using:

µTorrent 2.0.4

Norton Internet Security 2011 18.1.0.37

My system:

Windows Vista Home Premium

Inter Core2 Duo CPU T8300 2.4 GHz

4 GB Ram

What security product was on your machine before you installed Norton?  Was it removed using its own removal tool?

I had McAfee internet security, when it expired I installed Kaspersky Internet security but didn't like it and now Norton.

And I used their own uninstall tools for both McAfee and Kaspersky.

It could be Insight scanning the files as they are downloaded.  You could check in Task manager to see what is using the CPU.  There have been so many people infected with P2P sharing that I don't recommend turning it off.

It's utorrent that's using CPU, and I turned Everything in NIC OFF and the problem still exists !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then, you will need to talk to uTorrent to find out what has changed.

I got the same problem. Had NIS 2010 and uTorrent and absolutely no problems. Upgraded to NIS 2011 and uTorrent lags my machine so bad I cant use it :(

What changed between NIS 2010 and 2011 that might cause this, and can we turn it off?

Hello

Perhaps since uTorrents are usually considered as dangerous to the health of your computer, NIS 2011 has to work harder to make sure that your computer stays clean. Also ISP's are generally not in favor of their use either, so perhaps it is the ISP or router that is making it harder.

What part of NIS 2010 everything working and NIS 2011 it not working did you miss? I want to use uTorrent, but not sure I want to have NIS 2011 when its acting more like a virus than most other virus I have seen.

After all its a TORRENT. And with them you never when you're goanna get infected.

Previously, we've seen many cases of infections from P2P sources.

However, this should hamper your protection (not much ). You could try disabling the Smart Firewall feature for an approximate time and check the reaction of uTorrent.

BTW, is the problem only occurring on uTorrent or other Torrent applications too?

Cheers!

I have same problem - topic

If it's any help, it works fine for me but I'm using Norton Antivirus 2011.

I also have my download location excluded from autoprotect and sonar. (if that matters).

If you exclude your location like mine and still have a problem then it must be due to the firewall and you may want to temporarily turn it off and see if the problem goes away.

Have you tried re-installing uTorrent? I’ve used both in tandem since NIS 2011 was released–all without issue.

Hello denry

Have you contacted your ISP to see if they are doing anything to try and prevent people from using torrents now? Perhaps they weren't when you had NIS 2010. ISP policies are always changing also, not just your security program changes. Other's have said they can use it without a problem. Have you tried a full scan with malwarebytes to see if perhaps you have some malware which is interferring?

I have a NAS running torrents too with no problems, so its not the ISP. Can try malwarebytes.

Malwarebytes found nothing :)

Actually I haven't check it whith other clients but I'm not going to change my torrent client (utorrent) , if I can't find the solution it's NIS that will be uninstalled! :)

And I agree with Denry, what has changed in the 2011 version that acts this way?!!

And you know, I'm really confused here, cuz I uninstalled both NIC and utorrent, then I installed them again and I didn't have any problem for 4 days, and suddenly today I have the same problem, just what the f... is going on ?!!!!!!!

Check if setting uTorrent to user trusted through Norton Insight makes a difference. If it doesn't check if temporarily disabling Download Insight makes a difference.

Hello

I don't use torrents of any kind. Have you tried creating a rule for the torrent and moving that rule up to the top. When you install a new year product like changing from NIS 2010 to NIS 2011, any custom rules you may have set up are not carried over. So if you had any fire wall rules in the NIS 2010, they will not be in the NIS 2011 unless you recreate them and move them to the top;. Have you made sure that the firewall ports that are necessary for the program to work have been opened up in your router and in NIS 2011? I assume what you are using your utorrent for are legal downloads.

Is it possible that you are having problems with it cause the files you are trying to d/l may have malware in them as from what I understand, a lot of the downloads from them to have malware in them.? Perhaps the stronger engine in NIS 2011 is catching things that it couldn't catch with the 2010 version? I don't know if that is the answer or not, but maybe it's a possibility?

AlisEx: Yep it's trusted, and as I entioned before I disabled all the features in NIS and the problem still exists!! so weird ...

Floplot: I use utorrent for downloading video and audio files ( mp3, mp4, mkv, avi, ... ) and not applications, so I don't think there would be any malware related issues and as I said even if I turn off everything is NIS it makes no difference, so NIC by just being installed will cuz the problem. what can I say, I'm not a pro like u guys.
