Right click "My Computer" (or go into the control panel and open System) -> Advanced -> Under "Startup and Recovery" click "Settings" -> Under "system failure" uncheck "Automatically restart". Reboot, recreate the problem, and then copy the details of the STOP message. We'll need this to start troubleshooting.
Thank you very much for your assistance.

Do you see KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR in the STOP error message as well? What type of Hard Drive are you using (IDE, SATA, PATA, etc)? How many HDD do you have? What type of cabling are you using? Do you have a modified page file?
Try running Chkdsk /r and set paging to the default. Try in safe mode.
erik_carlstrom wrote:Do you see KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR in the STOP error message as well?
No. I gave you the technical information of the STOP-message as it is. Above this message is the general information. Part of this general information is the sentence: An essential process or thread of the operating system was suddenly interrupted or finished.

What is a modified page file?
How do I set paging to the default?
I will do that but it will take some time:
chkdsk volume: /r
(To repair errors, locate bad sectors, and recover readable information)
If you haven’t modified your page file, then it’s still set to default so no worries on that. Wait for Checkdisk to complete on the volume. If the problem continues, try replacing the cable to your system drive.
I did it:
chkdsk volume: /r
(To repair errors, locate bad sectors, and recover readable information)
All volumes are fine.
standard 80-conductor Ultra DMA IDE/ATA interface cable
All cables are fine.
The problem is still the same.

I did a little more research on stop 0x000000f4 (0x00000003, etc) problems. I find a couple trends on this.
- Replace RAM
- Driver problem
If replacing the RAM does not resolve the problem, do the following:
1. Windows Key + R
2. Type in 'verifier' and hit enter
3. Make sure 'Create Standard Setting' is selected and hit next
4. Click on 'Select all drivers installed on this computer' and hit Finish
5. Reboot
There is a possibility that your computer will crash on reboot. If this occurs go into Safe Mode. Follow the same steps above but on step 4 choose 'Select driver names from a list'; hit next; check the box next to any driver where the provider is not Microsoft; hit Finish; reboot.
This will slow the performance of you computer a little while enabled but will hopefully catch the driver causing corruption. Next time you crash the blue screen will hopefully say something like "DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION". If this occurs please send the corresponding minidump (by default it is at c:\windows\Minidump ) my way. Send me a PM and I'll give you my email address, etc.

I did not replace the RAM because I do not have RAM for replacing.
Reboot stopped with the following blue screen message:
IO SYSTEM VERIFICATION ERROR in STREAM.SYS (WDM DRIVER ERROR 22e)

Signing in to my user account stopped with the following blue screen message:
STOP: 0x00000005 (0x87AB6E88, 0x00000001, 0xBADFE6C3, 0x00000000)
IdeChnDr.sys - Address BADFE6C3 base at BADFB000, DateStamp 3b5f2a98
After this I booted into SAFE MODE and used MSCONFIG to uncheck all entries in the Startup tab (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run). Then I rebooted into normal mode.
Continued:
It was possible to sign in to my account but the computer was so frozen slow that it was not possible to do anything.
So I decided to boot again into SAFE MODE and use another adjustment in verifier to slow my computer less down.
I choose Create Standard Settings and automatically select unsigned drivers. Then I rebooted into normal mode.
After signing in to my user account I started the service Norton Ghost and this time it did not end up in a blue screen.
One by one with a lot of rebooting I checked the start up entries again until I checked the entry oss_reinstall (C:\Programme\Gemeinsame Dateien\Acronis\Acronis Disk Director\oss_reinstall.exe) which ended up in the blue screen:
STOP: 0x000000D5 (0x87478E60, 0x00000001, 0xBADFE6C3, 0x00000000)
IdeChnDr.sys - Address BADFE6C3 base at BADFB000, DateStamp 3b5f2a98
These two entries also caused the same blue screen problems "IdeChnDr.sys":
hqtray:D:\Programme\VMware\VMware Workstation\hqtray.exe
vmware-tray: D:\Programme\VMware\VMware Workstation\vmware-tray.exe
If I disable Driver Verifier so that it no longer performs verification checks at startup (run Driver Verifier Manager again and select Delete Existing Settings in the initial dialog box) then at the next reboot and signing in to my account the blue screen is back again. (the following startup entries still unchecked: oss_reinstall, hqtray, vmware-tray)
STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0x82DED368, 0x82DED4DC,0x805FB02E)
IdeChnDr.sys is the driver for the Intel Application Accelerator. Apparently it looks like Acronis and VMWare are using it.
I did some hunting and saw numerous posts about blue screens with this driver. Of course there were lists of "apparently this is a known issue", but I allways take comments like that with a grain of salt. It might just be easiest to uninstall the Intel Application Accelorator, or contact Intel support about the blue screens. Maybe there's an update that resolve this.
Is there some reason why you are using Ghost and Acronis together?

I do not have Intel Application Accelerator installed on my system. If I go to 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers' and hold the mouse arrow over IdeChnDr.sys it says Intel Ultra ATA Storage Driver 7.0.2014.0. This is correct because I have Intel Ultra ATA Storage Driver installed on my system (Fujitsu Siemens GA8IDX, Chipsatz 82845 HOST/AGP/Controller, 82801BA(ICH2) I/O Controller Hub).

This problem is solved because I unchecked these start up entries:
hqtray:D:\Programme\VMware\VMware Workstation\hqtray.exe
vmware-tray: D:\Programme\VMware\VMware Workstation\vmware-tray.exe

This problem remains.
At this point, my recommendation is to contact one of the companies involved in this failure:
VMWare
Acronis
Potentially Intel if necessary (possibly Fujitsu if they are your motherboard manufacturer)
The failure occurs in your storage controller when one or more of these applications are enabled on startup. A simple solution would be to uninstall one or both of the offending applications, but I cannot make that recommendation. The failure is occuring due to components not associated to a Norton product, and therefore I can't recommend any further actions.
Thank you very much for your help.
I am very glad I learned from you how to use verifier in finding a solution.
Thank you very much for your assistance.
I deinstalled Norton Ghost. I continued to use verifier.
Then I checked oss_reinstall (C:\Programme\Gemeinsame Dateien\Acronis\Acronis Disk Director\oss_reinstall.exe) under the startup tab in the MSCONFIG.
At booting the following blue screen occured:
STOP: 0x000000D5 (0x89368E88, 0x00000001, 0xBADFE6C3, 0x00000000)
IdeChnDr.sys - Address BADFE6C3 base at BADFB000, DateStamp 3b5f2a98
The same happened if I unchecked
- hqtray (D:\Programme\VMware\VMware Workstation\hqtray.exe)
- vmware-tray (D:\Programme\VMware\VMware Workstation\vmware-tray.exe)
under the startup tab in the MSCONFIG.
What I do not understand: Why does this blue screen not occur if verifier is out of service?
Next I reinstalled Intel® Application-Accelerator 2.3.
After that the blue screen in conjunction with oss_reinstall respectively hqtray/vmware-tray were gone.
Hopefully I reinstalled Norton Ghost. As long as verfier was used no blue screen happened.
Hopefully I put verifier out of service.
And the result was the following blue screen:
STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0x8512B990, 0x8512BB04, 0x805FB02E)
Why does no error occur if verfier is used but a blue screen happens if verifier is out of service?
Who knows an answere? Who probably knows an answere to the remaining problem?
