Remove green norton backup icons

How can I remove the green norton backup icons. This feature was available in Norton Classic, but apparently not now.

Surely there is a way to remove this annoying “feature”.

Hello @Barry_Scott
I’m seeing backup status overlays…with 25.3…and no off switch
:angry:436:angry:

Surely there must be an off switch somewhere.
I can’t find the off switch…so, I deleted my backup and that did not remove the backup status overlays.
So, I tried Reset to Default with Restart (not Shut down) machine…and that removed the backup status overlays.
Note: Reset to Default resets Cloud Backup

Let us know if you find the “marking of synced files” off switch.

Backup Status Overlays ← it’s missing and i see blue arrow icon’s now starting today after the new update. Norton please fix this ASAP! Or i will find another company much more friendly

Hello @Divinity_24
Before I opted Reset to Default…my files had green or blue statuses.

Please clarify…“fix this”…25.3 update has marking of synced files in PC.

Norton documentation refers to *Green *Orange *Red
Maybe, *blue indicates…files to be synced…next sync cycle?

Get started using Norton Cloud Backup here

*blue = Sync pending

*green = Sync pending

Lets ask @Gayathri_R to clarify

The fix is: the opportunity to remove the backup icon overlays.
The clutter my desktop screen. That option did exist on previous versions.

My fix was to delete a backup set. Not very helpful if I want backs. I may need to quit Norton after many years.

@bjm - In your experience, does Norton pay attention to customer feedback? I’m a long time user as well and there’s always been the option to turn this off. Surely they must understand that this can be very distracting for users?

And you said that you deleted your backup set and they were removed? Meaning you no long backup with Norton or the new set doesn’t have them? If they are default turned on now, won’t they reappear again? I’m not going to delete my sets for them to possibly appear again on next update. Hopefully they put that option back in again.

Hello @stonerose

  1. You’d think/hope they understand.
  2. Deleted backup set and Reset to Default

Norton Cloud Backup is/was not my primary backup solution.

Norton Cloud Backup is/was a supplement to my primary/secondary backup solutions.

The 3-2-1 Backup Rule

  1. You should have three copies of your data at all times — one original, and two backups.
  2. Both backups should be on different storage mediums.
  3. One backup should be stored offsite.

=======================================================

Norton Cloud Backup feature within Norton 360, is not a full system image backup.
Norton Cloud Backup functions as a file and folder backup, allowing you to selectively choose which specific files and folders to back up to the cloud, rather than capturing an entire snapshot of your entire system like a traditional system image backup would do.
Norton Cloud Backup lets you pick which files and folders to back up, giving you more control over what data is stored in the cloud.
While you can restore individual files from a Norton backup, you cannot use it to completely restore your entire operating system to a previous state like a system image backup would allow.

Hello @stonerose
Did you try Local Backups?

be nice if Automatically sync had a sub-switch to turn off “marking of synced files”.
except…Manage → Settings is only available after user opts Back Up This PC.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’m a little lazy with my backups. At some point perhaps I’ll look at backing up locally. I’d have to decide if I wanted to install another SSD or get something external and just leave plugged into a USB port? I suppose I could get a NAS or something, but I’d have to look into that. I never bother with system images, I’m not that much of a power user.

Oddly enough today, I noticed the checkmarks on the icons (at least on my desktop) were gone. And out of habit I right clicked the desktop to refresh and of course they reappeared. Doh!

Local backups → manual sync. No need to leave external drive plugged in.
for example:

Did anyone find a way to disable backup overlays?
This is so annoying.

Surely Norton HAVE to give users the option to disable this functionality like they did in the past, but at the moment I can’t find a way to do it.

The only answer I’ve found is to remove my backup and use some other way to backup.
This WAS a good tool, but being irritating to users is no way to sell a product.
Frankly I am surprised this is happening. Also, that Norton is not responding to this irritating issue is very telling. If not fixed, I am going to use something else - sorry to say.

Started a Chat session with Norton support today and was told they took away the option to turn the overlays off. I told them I would uninstalling Norton permanently if there wasn’t a way to get rid of the overlays. Apparently rolling back to an earlier version is an option, but will need to turn off the auto update feature to avoid future product updates. This is a ridiculous solution, but will try as temporary solution. Hopefully enough folks will complain and the “feature” will get added back in, but am doubtful, so will likely be discontinuing Norton in the future.

Hello @EMHz @Barry_Scott @MaGi @stonerose @Divinity_24

Note: as far as I’m aware ~

  • Norton is planning to introduce user settings to control display of overlay icons for backed up files, and the fix will be available …~ “coming soon”

I did the same and I’m now back to version 22.23.10.10
Can’t find a way to turn off the auto update feature, though.
Were you able to do it?

I fully agree the way this is being managed by Norton is laughable.
They seem to have lost the plot.

auto opdatere er i punktet der hvor alle indstillingerne der hvor backup står til højre der øverst til venstre når du er der inde længst til højre mener jeg det er et af de punkter

That’s good to know, thanks for the update.

I hope that is true. Please let us know if/when the update is available. I don’t want to change from, but I will if necessary.

did it work
