I can see backup sets via the web browser and can download each file individually. But I want to restore the entire backup set.
Instructions say to open Norton 360/Device Security and restore from backup - but the backup sets I can from the web browser are not seen or accessible from Norton 360.
How can I can I restore the entire backup set that is available via the web browser?
Hello @Robert_Willis
sounds like you’re Norton 360 v22
Restore Norton backup files or entire backup sets
Open your Norton device security product. If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click Open.
In the Norton product main window, double-click Backup, and then click Restore Files.
In the Restore Files window, under Restore From, click View All.Click a backup set, and then click OK.
In the Restore Files window, under Files, click Browse for Files and Folders.Select the files that you want to restore, and then click OK.
In the Restore Files window, under Restore To, click Original Location.Click Change and follow the instructions if you don’t want to restore to the original location.
Hi bjm
Similar problem but slightly different. I had to use a recovery disc to resolve a problem with windows update but now wish to recover my files from a cloud backup. I have reloaded Norton 360 Premium but its front end does not look like it used to. When I select the Backup function from the Security menu, it correctly tells me that no backup has been created yet (new installation from the recovery). There does not seem to be a way to access any Restore function. Are you able to help?
I have no problem accessing my backups on the My Norton website. As Robert said, I want to restore the full backup to the original file locations but I cannot find any restore function in my current version of Norton 360. I am reluctant to create a backup of the PC in its current (very little content status) as I am worried that it might overwrite the backup that exists on the web. If I change the name of the backup of this empty pc, will that then enable the Restore function to appear and hopefully allow me to choose the 15.4Gb version that holds all of my files.
The screen shots that you included in the replies to Richard ( Version 22?) are the ones that I remember, which gave the opportunity to select a backup set and then restore. I assume that I now have V24. I do not relish the the thought of downloading everything to a separate folder and then moving each individual file and do not know how to pull down the complete backup anyway. Is there a way of reverting to V22 so that the backups created with that version would then be visible via the restore function.
Thanks. I will uninstall Norton 360 and see what the application file gives me. Have to sign off for a while as “she who must be obeyed” wants to watch some television. Will report back if it solves my problem.
Success albeit a bit tortuous. Loaded V22 but then needed to create a new backup of the empty pc, with a new name for the backup. Could then access the Restore function and needed to log in to my cloud account. A moments panic when it only showed me the new backup of the empty pc but luckily I spotted a refresh button at the top of the window which then presented me with the three backups that were in the cloud. Naughty Norton for updating the software such that it was not backwards compatible to be able to show backups created by the previous version. How many people are there out there who are in blissful ignorance of this fact.
A big thank you to bjm however for steering me to the ultimate solution. May rely on the Microsoft Backup function now,
Hello again @NigelJB
So, you were able to restore the three full backup sets to their original folder/file locations?
So, v22.23.x.x updated to 22.24.x.x and stopped at 22.24.x.x?
Yes. All files restored to their original locations. Then reloaded V24 and created a backup. I then found that I had maligned Norton unnecessarily as it then showed me all of my backup sets in the cloud with the opportunity to restore from any of them. Sorry Norton. If I had created a backup of the empty pc with new name for the backup set, I would then have been able to see the one that contained all of my files.
Hello @NigelJB
I’m trying to follow along: You mean if you had created a backup on the v24 machine (returned to factory out of the box) and then renamed that backup? then Norton would have recognized prior saved online backups - with active Restore function?
Note: Restore function is active (not grayed) with selecting backup set to restore
Precisely. Use of the recovery drive had put a clean version of windows on my pc(Version 21H2 as the recovery disc was a bit old) and it had removed my Nortons software. Went online to my Nortons account and reinstalled 360 which I did not recognise as it was V24. As it considered that there was no backup yet created, it did not offer a Restore function. After restoring my files using V22 that you kindly sent me a link for, I uninstalled V22 and reinstalled V24. I then created a backup using V24 and when that was completed and I returned to the backup screen, I saw my new backup and the previous version with an option to restore from either of them. I have not yet clicked on a restore button to ensure that it has a “restore to original file locations”, but I suspect that it will be there. Hope that this explains the tortuous process that I went through and I remain gratefull for your help and patience,
Okay…fwiw ~ by my observation…the initial v24 default created backup with auto sync enabled…needs to be reviewed online to see what’s included…then adjust to your preference.
Please post progress…when/if you restore. Thanks
