Revert to Version 22.24.8.36 safe source file to download

@dforrest Here’s the screenshot. I missed it too until @SoulAsylum pointed out where it was. A case of hide it in plain sight.

The screen I get is completely different:

@dforrest You are on version 24.xx so the UI is different. This is where you will find the current protection information in version 24.xx .

Thanks. Mine notes that I have “Program version” “24.12.9725 (build 24.12.9725.897” and “UI Version” “1.0.84”.

The virus definitions version area is where your updates will change. Review it often. The screenshot was one I took before reverting back to Norton version 22.24.8.36.

At this point I want to say I LOVE YOU. I just got his with the newer vs. a week or 2 ago and it’s literally been frying my laptop and disabling me from getting online for a good 5-10 minutes. I’ve given them feedback after feedback and finally just uninstalled it, but I needed to get my protection back. BLESS YOU for sharing this. I do have a question though - I’ve disabled live update, but where do I enable or check to see if it is, intelligent updater? Again, thank you SO MUCH! Another day or 2 and I’d have no laptop left.

New problem - they’re not allowing us to turn off live update “permanently.” You can choose it, but it won’t apply!

@Kimba You have to manually update the virus definitions using Intelligent Updater. Don’t use either the automatic or manual update features in N360. What will happen is v24 will reinstall again. Here’s the link for the Intelligent Updater. Security Center Download Detail There are several files listed. Make certain to download the correct one for your system (e.g. 64-bit platform). On the 64-bit platform page, you’ll find the file for Norton 360 (version 22.9, 22.10 and later). Download and install to update your virus defs. A new virsus def file is published daily.

@Kimba_Essence By chance, did you remove v24 using the correct removal tool before installing the old version? Norton has two removal tools. Use the one at the link @SoulAsylum posted Revert to Version 22.24.8.36 safe source file to download - #12 by V_M

Also, recheck all your settings when you install the previous version. It looks like some settings migrate over but not others, at least that was true for me.

Best of luck!

I did, and I think? I have everything okay now, except that the 22 vs, which we all love bc why wouldn’t we, keeps connecting my VPN way too close to where I live, thus what’s the purpose, and I can’t report it, bc I’m not using what they want me to use - and I keep getting notified that my definitions aren’t being updated, because per SoulAsylum’s instructions we need to turn off live update and smart scan and use the stand alone definitions updater. I installed that updater, but can’t find any of the settings for it, I’ve looked everywhere, so I don’t know if it’s actually doing anything or not. If you’ve installed the definitions updater per his instructions (assuming they’re a he), do you happen to know how to find it on your laptop/PC? For now I have the VPN turned on, virus protection turned on, but my definitions are turned off as is my live update (once I did a reboot the settings I wanted stuck), but I don’t know if I’m getting the definitions updated or not and suddenly my windows defender settings won’t let me set them because it works with Norton 360 since it’s installed.

This entire thing is a mess, we pay for this? Apparently Norton hasn’t listened, or become as bad as MS has become in listening but not caring, and has no concern for their paying customers. I can’t work a Mac for my life - I’ve been a windows users since before windows was rolled out to near every company in NYC - then I started training people how to use it - MAC is a foreign entity to me, but between what MS is doing with their Calendar forcing and destroying, and what Norton is doing, both forcing us to use an online subscription no less and be logged into them at all times, which we never had to do in years gone by - I’m truly considering ditching MS and Norton at some point in the not so far away future - just need $$ to buy a new MAC, which I don’t have right now.

So Yep darlin, and thank you Puzzler, I did finally get live update to remain off and smart scan is off, and I installed the definitions as well, I just can’t find the definitions settings to manage it or even see what it’s doing, if doing anything at all - and Norton’s giving me red flags all over the place because of definitions, updates and scans being shut off, which apparently, in the moment, is the only way to keep the protection and VPN on without reinstalling their updated version that was frying my CPU, Fan, Memory and causing a 10 minute wait to get my browser to load. sigh

Any words of wisdom would be overly welcomed. <3

@Kimba_Essence Sorry for the delay in responding. I was away for a few days. The way to verify if your virus definitions have been updated is detailed is one of my replies above to dforrest. There’s a screenshot showing where to look as well.
I’m not sure what you mean by definitions settings. As far as I know, there’s nothing to set. Aside from turning off the live update and manually downloading the file and installing it using Intelligent Updater every day, the N360 app (the version previous to V24) works as it always has. Remember that a new definition file is published everyday so you need to make this a daily routine.
Maybe I missed something in your message but it’s pretty straightforward.

Hello. I have version 22.24.2.6 (from HELP-> ABOUT) running on my PC from a backup image I just restored (and immediately disabled automatic updates). Is this version sufficient enough for me to pull down the virus definitions updated with the Intelligent Updater?

@TJWIN7User Yes, use intelligent updater. Make sure you use either the 32 bit or 64 bit definitions. They are selectable at the top of the page. Then look for the definition set that updates your version. Here is the direct download for your Norton version definitions:

https://definitions.symantec.com/defs/20250111-002-core3sdsg2v5i64.exe

Edited: Also you should see this when your updates have installed. There is a log file link annotated where you can view more info: “Log.IntellitentUpdater.txt”

@Kimba_Essence Here is a screenshot of the UI and where you will see your definitions date. The date will change each time you download a new daily update with Intelligent updater. If this area says current your definitions installed and are current.:

Hello SoulAsylum,
Thank you for the information! I just wanted to make sure as I do have the ‘N360-ESD-22.24.8.36-EN.exe’ installer mentioned on this thread, and if I did need to go to the higher version 22.24.8.36, I wondered I if could just run that and install right on top of my 22.24.2.6 (without having to run the removal tool since this is still part of of the ‘22.24’ family). If that sounds doable without a problem, I could go that route as well. Otherwise, I’ll just stay on 22.24.2.6 (and yes, I have automatic updates disabled). If I have any further questions, I’ll post here. Best - Ted

You would want to remove the version you have installed, reboot then run the 22.24.8.36 installer. Staying on the version you are on shouldn’t be an issue while 24.xx gets its act together.

@Peter_Evans Since you are the original poster in the thread please allow me to ask if your issue has been resolved with the posted information here in your thread?

SoulAsylum,
Got it - thanks! I’ll stay put where I am. Already did my 1st update with link you gave - am about to do my next update with the file posted for today. Will check that site periodically. I take it the definitions are cumulative, correct? So, if I miss any, I’ll be set with next available download.
Ted

Yep. Missing a day won’t be an issue. You will be updated fully with the next defs install.

Great. One more item - I’ve been looking at the ‘NORTON Intelligent Updater Log’ and it appears to be good. I do see these type of repeating entries:

Sun Jan 12 12:08:55 2025 : REG SUCCESS: Success while opening key
Sun Jan 12 12:08:55 2025 : REG FAILURE: Failed while fetching the path from registry.
Sun Jan 12 12:08:55 2025 : DEPLOY DLL LOCATION: IU will read the DLL location from registry - ISDeployDLL
Sun Jan 12 12:08:55 2025 : REG SUCCESS: Success while opening key
Sun Jan 12 12:08:55 2025 : REG FAILURE: Failed while fetching the path from registry.
Sun Jan 12 12:08:55 2025 : IGNORE ENTRY: Ignoring entry for VIRSCAN.zip because of registry read failure. Error occurred while reading the path for the Authorization DLL from the registry.
Sun Jan 12 12:08:55 2025 : The product corresponding to this entry in iuconfig.xml is not installed on the system.

Are those to be concerned about at all? If you wanted to see the log itself (which isn’t large at moment) can I upload it here for you at look at.
