@SoulAsylum hi hon, I’ve got a new problem. My definitions weren’t being updated, only the initial file from 1/10 - after that the sites weren’t showing definition files that supported the 22.24, so I wasn’t getting updated definitions. I uninstalled everything with the removal exe you point to, then reinstalled the file you point to, but it wasn’t the original ā€œoldā€ version, it was older than that, no VPN and an outdated GUI, yet it was the same file I used that you pointed to originally, which was the exact version prior to v24. After much frustration, genuinely only needing the VPN, I started searching Norton for the VPN but upon downloading the exe I saw it was v24, so of course I’m not going to install it. Any suggestions? Now I’ve got a far older version of v22 as far as the GUI goes, no vpn, the settings aren’t the same as the prior/last v22 version I had, but much older and outdated, less setting options, so I’m stuck now.

There’s no way I’m putting v24 back on, it came pretty darn close to frying my CPU, my laptop was burning hot, fan wouldn’t stop blowing, CPU usage was out of control, countless Norton progs running in task manager, browser wouldn’t open until a few minutes, etc., same old same old issues, and of course they took away a lot of controls - the same reasons we all hate it and feel Norton has failed us all. However, now I can’t get back the latest ā€œpriorā€ version of v22 via the download or installer for it.

It’s literally not the same product, it’s a much more outdated one, you can’t even get to the normal settings screen to shut live update.

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated, I use the VPN more than anything and the virus protection is certainly necessary. VPN is gone, the settings page is gone (where you would shut live update) and the only way to reach settings is left clicking on the task bar for Norton and then as you can see, it’s in the tasks, but when you click settings you don’t get the settings page as we had in the latest ā€œpriorā€ version, which is exactly what installed. Do you think Norton caught on and stopped it? I can’t use this, there’s no VPN and no way of shutting live update bc the setting’s page isn’t there or right - and the only other option is v24 and unless they’re offering me a new PC worth the cost of mine, it’s not happening. Might you please find it in your heart to help me? :pray:

Here’s a few screenshots of what that download is now installing:

@SoulAsylum Thank love, but that wasn’t happening. If I used the same file for definitions I originally installed on 1/10 it installed well, but the definitions were from 1/10. If I went back to the page of definitions and tried to get the 1/14, 1/16, 1/17 or 1/18 date definitions none supported the version of the v22 we’re using, and now there’s an even bigger problem with that, I just tagged you in another reply giving you all the details and showing you a few pictures. I’m in a big whole now - unable to shut live update and no VPN. Please take a look at the longer reply I wrote you before this one, it includes details and pictures. Thx hon, I’m in dire need of your help and appreciate you to no end. :pray::purple_heart:

Here is the direct download for version 22.24.8.36: Use this file to install that version. Activate it by logging into your Norton account via the UI, user interface and selecting the subscription that you have there. DO NOT run live update or you will be back on version 24.xx again.

You are seeing the My Norton start page for Norton 360. Select the cog icon in the left side black area and on the right you can set your start page for the UI to classic view.

The Intelligent Updater will only update Norton versions prior to version 24.xx. That is the reason for using them to stay reverted. A new definitions file will be posted there each day. Make sure you are selecting the correct version on the site, IE: 32bit for older computers, 64 bit for more modern ones. Check your PC for the install you have to get the correct version.

@Puzzler Meaning, it shows that that the definitions were updated on 1/10/25, which I downloaded and saved thank goodness, because the definitions since then on those download pages are far and many, but none will support the version of v22 we all reinstalled after the v24 earthquake. So, while reinstalling the definitions each day (as are the instructions from @SoulAsylum), because the file was from 1/10/25, it’s only showing definitions updated as of 1/10/25. The page I had gotten the file from originally, no longer has downloads for the version we’re all using, they all fail. And - my VPN is now missing from the V22 vs. we all downloaded. I had to remove and reinstall (kept that file too) and it’s gone - no VPN showing, no settings for it, not privacy settings, etc.

@SoulAsylum the install you’re referring to is ā€œnowā€ currently not installing the VPN or Safe Cam with it any longer as it was over a week ago - and, the intelligent updater page no longer has any version that doesn’t ā€œfailā€ upon install since the one I downloaded and saved on 1/10/25, so I’m outdated on definitions for the past 9 days. We/I could really use your help - the definitions are all listed by versions, and none go back as far as the only version we have. If you can find it, please post it, because proton and norton’s page only show the intelligent updater for versions higher than the one we’re all using, and the one we’re all using no longer installs with the VPN, VPN settings, on off switch or privacy controls. We need your help @SoulAsylum and @Puzzler :pray:

@SoulAsylum you didn’t include the links in this post

@SoulAsylum @Puzzler as you can see from the 2 attached pages, the V22 version we’re using upon a new install of it, which I had to do for reason not necessary to share in such great length, is no longer including the VPN or the Safe Cam. I did however just use the file I downloaded on 1/10 to install intelligent updated and it finally shows last installed yesterday 1/19, even though I just installed again now, which is 1/19? At least it’s not showing 1/10 as the last anymore. We can only use the file we downloaded previously for intelligent updater, because none of the sites are providing it for the version we’re all using, all that they do provide fail upon install, so I’m super happy I saved it. However HUGE problem with the VPN, Safe Cam and privacy settings gone?

@Puzzler, I sure did. It worked like a charm the first time I did it, but I had touninstall everything and reinstall it all again and now the VPN, Safe Cam and Privacy settings are nowhere to be found. I also have to keep working off the initial intelligent updater file I download/and kept thankfully, because none of the pages are offering a download as they new definitions come out and many have, for the version of v22 we’re using

@Kimba_Essence

Looking at your last image is shows 1 of 1 licences used. That would indicate you have a Norton Anti Virus subscription, not a 360 subscription. That product does not include the VPN feature. You need to move up to one of the higher subscription levels to get the VPN.

@peterweb - Hi Peter. No actually I have Norton 360, I pay $39.99 a year, have for years, always have had the VPN, my receipt shows Norton 360, and I had 360 before they pushed out the awful V24, and had it once I they pushed out the awful V24 (which was literally burning my hard drive (CPU / Fan / Memory). Upon purchase I’m always allowed to choose 1 license for Norton 360. I reverted back to V22 per the help of everyone, and once doing so, I had my VPN. But, I had to remove it all due to too long of a story and start again, and when I did, the VPN was gone. If I reinstall my purchased product, with 1 license, I will have my VPN again, but it will then burn up my laptop of which I can’t afford to replace, literally. I’m unsure of why you’re seeing what you are, but I can assure you that each time I renew, I renew ā€œ360ā€ and have the VPN for 1 license only, with a choice, for a higher price, to get more than 1 license, I choose the 1, because it’s cheaper. The issue is the download for the older version we’re all using. It’s no longer pulling in the VPN or my proper paid for product, which it did the first time. At this point I don’t know what to do, if I can’t find help with this, I’m going to be forced to reinstall V24 and it’s going to literally fry my entire laptop.

Again, can’t explain why that page shows what it does, only that I can assure you I have, and paid for, 360, but again… when using the download link for the 2nd time to get V22, it was giving me this other product. Here, take a look. (and thank you for responding btw, greatly appreciated).

@Kimba_Essence

I was looking at the US Norton website and that site shows 360 Standard as protecting 3 devices. You must be in another country that the Standard is also only allowing 1 device protection.

Not sure why you say reinstalling will ā€œburn up my laptopā€. Can you expand on this statement?

The file that you download for installing Norton 360 now contains all the features available in the 360 line. When you enter your product key into the product or download 360 from your account, the features associated with your product key will be activated. Did you enter your Product Key from your Norton Account into your new installation?

@peterweb nope darlin’ - I’m in the U.S., and for decades now (well since we could purchase it w/out it being online) since it’s been online, I’ve always (but once the first time many years ago), purchased 1 license for $39.99 and it’s the 360 Standard that includes all I showed you. It always shows upon my renewal each year and I always choose it.

That being said and shared now - what do I do? I clearly own and paid for 360, upon first using the V22 download provided I had the VPN, but on the second one I didn’t and I did a full removal as info provided before reinstalling the V22, which recognizes that it’s me, but isn’t giving me my product. The only way for me to get my paid product now is to download the V24, which fries my laptop - any suggestions? @SoulAsylum might you possibly please be able to jump in on this issue I’m having as well, Peter’s being wonderful and trying very hard to help, but I think we need a few brains on this one, mine is gone, I’ve been trying to figure this out, install, uninstall, log into Norton, etc., for 2 days now. I have nothing left of my brain at this point and can’t find a solution or reason that this is happening - maybe between you and Peter we/you guys :pray: can figure out why this is happening and away for me to get around it? :pray:

Thank you both SO MUCH, genuinely, it’s so kind of you for sharing and helping with everyone struggling with V24 and trying to get V22 back, I can’t figure out why it worked the first time and not the 2nd time and I refuse to put V24 back, but I need something, I can’t go without a VPN and more, plus I paid for it.

And of course MS Edge decided to update without anyone’s knowledge today and as usual all of mine and everyone else’s short cuts were gone and had to be redone manually. Thankfully I had just saved my favorites late last night. I’m so fed up with MS and Norton for their forced ā€œonline connectivityā€ to use their products that we’re paying for. In my opinion, as it always was… buy it, receive it, install it, it’s private and stand alone on your PC and you do not have to be connected or signed in anywhere - both MS and Norton are being big players in this very serious game and I’m getting fed up. (sorry for the rant).

MANY thanks and gratitude in advance.
Kimba

@peterweb @SoulAsylum I just checked my Norton Acct, I’ve been buying 360 Standard with VPN (well since they began offering VPN but 360) for 12 years with 1 license. Maybe I’m grandfathered in? It’s always available for me to choose upon renewal. Much more important and detailed, critical message above this one. And again, thanks both of you ((((((hugs))))))). I’m fried from all of this with so much I needed to get done over the past 2 days not done. :frowning:

@Kimba_Essence
If you say your first install of v22 had all features, I would suggest one more try. Uninstall Norton, restart your computer and then try the install again. Be sure you are using the Restart command, not Shutdown and startup again.
Then after the install (and turning off the Automatic LiveUpdate), restart the system again to ensure the installation gets completed.

@SoulAsylum It’s not working hon, and I’m so sorry I’ve been tagging you all over the forum because I ran into a horrible snag, and believe it or not because I’m not sounding like I am w/in the forum, I’m technically savvy - this is a real snag. The definitions are no longer showing for anything before 22.9, each of them fail. Because the one we initially used was for the V22 lower version it worked, but soon after that, they stopped posting the definitions for that version, I tried them all even though the names were clear they were for a higher version, and each failed. The only that does work is the initial one I downloaded (and saved) on 1/10/25, that one works, but it’s outdated, many new definitions released after that date - but again, none are working with the v22.2 anything. And, that’s not the only issue I’m having, I’m now on my umpteenth removal and reinstall of the V22.2+ version and it’s not giving me my VPN or a few other things as it initially did. I had to uninstall the initial one for a few reasons, and when I went to reinstall it (properly after the removal & more, etc.) it was a version of Norton that wasn’t the 360 with VPN which I pay for, which also was correct on the initially install. Has Norton caught on to this? I really need your help SoulAsylum, I’ve lost 2 critical life days dealing with this and have zero time left come tomorrow morning. I hope you log in sometime soon, and please forgive me for all the tags, I’ve literally not left my computer for 2 days other than sleep and walking my dog trying to figure out what’s going on and no matter what I do or how many times I try, it’s no longer working properly.

Praying you see all my posts soon, and thank you again, so, so much.

@peterweb great minds think alike, just did that before seeing your post, this is my last attempt, I’m about to install it now. I have a bad feeling about this. As I just replied to SoulA, the definitions page is no longer giving links for the version 22.2+ we’re all trying to use, only 22.9 and higher and they all fail to install due to it being the wrong version (they don’t match). On 1/10/25, they had definitions for that version, but they don’t any longer. And now the VPN no appearing and not getting the full 360 install on that exe - I have a feeling norton might be catching on and stopping it, but I’m hoping I’m wrong and can come back here and say well, 100th time’s the charm. LOL

Will be back to let you know - this is my last attempt, I’m spent, 2 days on this, lost critical time for getting other things done and have a week of nonstop hell ahead of me, so if this one doesn’t work, then Norton caught on (re: VPN) and as far as the definitions page goes, take a look yourself, there are no definitions for the version we’re trying to install, there were, but there aren’t anymore - all the others fail because of that reason - the versions don’t match. Okay, here goes and BTW whether it works or not, thanks so much Peter. ((hugs)).

Be sure you are using this link for the 360 download. And use a fresh download just in case there is something corrupted in your earlier download. https://buy-download.norton.com/downloads/2024/22.24.8/N360/US/N360-ESD-22.24.8.36-EN.exe

@peterweb btw - it’s installing now and says it’s installing 360, it has all day long, it’s time for virus definitions, but I’ll a restart first to see if the VPN is there, however, I just took a peek at the definitions page and there is absolutely none for this version v22.24, which one are you using daily? The definitions i mean? Maybe you can go take a look at the page yourself and see what I’m seeing, no longer one for this version, I’ll be back need to do a restart - man my back’s killing me from being hunched over this laptop all day. Calgon take me away! lol
