I am a beta tester new Norton 360 2019- so not sure I should even relay. Anybody else have issues with the VPN option simply not turning on?
Update for Norton eyes-
Password Manager-main PC gives me-in orange that 'No Supported Browser Detected'.
I have three that I use and work fine-Explorer/Edge/Chrome and Firefox. I rebooted,
error in orange is gone. Also, turning the Secure VPN not working on my main HP PC but after the reboot, its also fine
My HP Laptop was doing the hour glass/pending for Secure VPN.
It lasted 2 minutes and is fine.
Surface Laptop the Secure is VPN not turning on
Dell Laptop-the Secure VPN not turning on
Yea..thanks for at least addressing this Peter. Its weird for Norton to establish a beta and not address a real good process to address the inquiry in real time-or perhaps they are on the back end. I love Norton and the only provider I will ever use.
Well it looks like we need to wait for Norton to get someone answering these questions. Even the forum gurus here have not been able to get our hands on the new 360, so we are not much help.
Yes...cannot figure why. Both devices-clean-never any issues. This is the first of any kind of difficulty with Norton. What is odd is my little HP has only 2GB of ram and no problem with VPN select. The Surface much more ram for was thinking perhaps an issue with resources since one thing I have noticed that Norton needs to verify..do you click once, twice or once hold etc etc. That did make a difference as to how long you wait and indeed it does respond. As the other user noted..I have gotten the endless hour glass wait-but not as of today-at that point, you need to restart. No other way to interrupt the pending VPN process.
So 2 of 4 devices have no issues, and they are all on the new 360?
I did-interesting that at first it came back with the VPN section in red and did not exist. After a reboot it was there. The other issue, on my Dell laptop and Surface, I still get nothing after tapping the VPN option. I do get it fine on my PC and other HP laptop.
Looks like a new version of the Norton VPN included in the new 360 products has just been released. Please run LiveUpdate from your 360.

Hi, I accidentally found the solution to this problem. I just bought System Mechanic and was testing around and probably found the solution for a lot of those user having problems. I certainly was.
I could not explain why Norton Secure VPN suddenly stopped working properly. It is not a major app and leaves a lot to be desired but it did work and pretty good. (By the way. This is NOT a recommendation for System Mechanic.) System Mechanic was looking for programs in the registry that are leftovers or such. I got this statement as a result. I would have never thought to check this.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App PathsXNorton Secure VPN Reference to missing file: c:\program files (x86)\norton secure vpn\openvpn.exe
It turns out that Norton is making a 64 bit version of Norton Secure VPN. For this reason, the path was changed to make this possible depending on your operating system--32 bit and 64 bit.
In the registry, I have: c:\program files (x86)\norton secure vpn\driver6\win64 under the oem category
Path on my hard drive is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Secure VPN\openvpn\openvpn.exe
Not much agrees here. Notice that right after Norton Secure VPN there is an added "openvpn\". This was done to accomodate the 64 bit exe on another line. (Not shown for simplicity.)
I changed my registry to work with the 64 bit version and it seems to be working fine. Yet, there could be a lot to correct in the registry for uninstall and oem and more?
I am not running a beta right now. My software version is: 22.16.3.21 .
I changed my registry. Don't try this yourself unless very experienced. Leave this to Norton to fix. Regards. (And, it may be in process or already fixed.
JJGolf5343:May have but did get the new update but other beta 360 issues. Some may be normal-startup 'Norton thinking'.
- A few times with the VPN set, I get the no internet connection error on my startup website (www.microsoft.com)
- The Norton ICON is greyed out in the task bar for some time-I am thinking the norm at start-10-20 seconds
- The most strange is this error message when I shut down now. I attached for review.
A user in another thread has seen this same message. https://community.norton.com/en/comment/8085951#comment-8085951
If you read through that thread, you will see that I am trying to get help from Norton on this new product. No one has any experience yet.
Hi JJGolf5343:
If you have a Win 8.x or Win 10 OS, ensure that the Fast Startup power option (also called hybrid bootup / hybrid shutdown) is disabled as described in peterweb's thread Windows 8/8.1 or 10 and Fast Start Feature and then re-boot your system a few times after this setting is disabled. This Fast Startup feature can interfere with product updates and loading of Norton services at boot-up and result in all sorts of odd glitches and unexpected behaviour on Win 8.x and Win 10 computers.
Also note that this setting can sometimes re-enable itself after a Windows Update (especially after a major Win 10 Version update) so double-check to ensure Fast Startup is still disabled if you've previously turned off this feature.

lmacri. I've asked the question about the VPN fix being applicable to the BETA as well since it may or may not be. Hoping someone will answer that directly so we can get good info out without any guess work.
Cheers

Hi JJGolf5343:
I don't know if this will address your issue, but the change log in today's product update announcement Norton 22.16.4 Update for Windows is Now Available! states:

Hey there-no worries. Its kind of early in this beta. I am sure this is something they are or will confront anyway. I do know its based on how Norton is thinking/system resources at startup. In other words, I can tap the turn on 2-3 times right after I just logged on-never does anything. Then, about 2-3 minutes later it will turn on after I click and try again. Also, with my laptops, you click the turn on and wait about 25-30 seconds and it does turn on. Also some instances of it stuck (greyed out) and going forever-pending and not turning on. Kind of strange. Thanks again.
Does the VPN not activate at all, or is it just not automatically turning on when you start your computer?
Hello JJ. I don't know of any Guru's who were selected to participate in the N360 BETA. However I will refer this thread to one of the Admins who can assist with an answer. We just cannot begin to give you an answer without being "hands on" with the product. Many apologies!!
