operating system and revision

full version no of Norton (main windows, help, about)

Please advise what steps you have already taken and what you understand to be the issue.

Also read this link. It is perhaps the same problem with another Norton product. Try a comprehensive scan and see if you get the same problem or only with quick scan and advise us .

You may have an infection see this document. (sorry I see as I am editing that anyother contributor has the same idea).

I would be inclined to find your "host" file and rename it host.ori and retry. If this resolves the problem I can find a site to provide a good hosts file for you.

Please see the following:

http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2007-110223-1713-99&tabid=3

Nothing worked, still the same problem.

When I start to scan it jams,  I did not have this problem before with Norton 360 V 1.

regards

Do you get the problem with both scans or only quick scan please?

With both scans I get the same problem.

Thanks

I went to Norton 360 V 2 settings and I deactivated under threat categories security risk and it jammed on cookies now.

I believe this is not a problem regarding the Security Risk Url but it might be something else.

I did request from Norton an advise no reply yet , two weeks ago they even asked me 90 euros in order to fix this they said an advisor will contact once u you do the payment.

Thanks

I have seen from the other thread that I linked you to that they have not found a solution. I can suggest some things. However could you let me know please, if you read that thread, and also did you try to rename hosts as I suggested. If you advise this does not work, I will send you a Private Message. If you look at the top right you will see an envelope box and counter.

I tried and did not work.

I unistalled the Norton 360 V2 and I installed again it worked for the first time on the pre installation scanning and after when

I wanted to scan again after restarting I got the same problem.

Please advise thank you

I have sent you a Private message. Lets hope that someone else drops in and can make some other suggestions.

I had the same problem...freezing at "security risk redir". Not only that, but my system would freeze frequently and randomly. Very annoying. I solved it by removing N360 completely and installing AVG 8.0... for free.

Are you using a Dell notebook computer? I am wondering if there was/is some kind of hardware conflict between N360 and something else. Interestingly, N360 works very well on my Dell desktop. Not a glitch...not even one! Same operating system (Vista - all updated) and MS Office 07 (all updates). No unusal hardware configurations on either machine.

Just a thought.

I do have Toshiba Qosmio

But I do have as well Toshiba Satellite and I don't have a problem so I am a bit confused with this.

Tell u the truth I did not have the problem with Norton 360 V1

It is very possible that there is a problem

thanks

To be clear you have confirmed that you ran both Microsoft Malicious Software removal tool July 2008, and Microsoft Onecare scanner. Neither detected any issues, is that correct?

When you uninstall and reinstalled did you use Norton Removal Tool?

What operating system are you using?

Hi , I have windows vists home version and bus.   I found a trojan named  Slupim.A

I will see and take this out in order to see iof norton will work

Thanks

I have Toshiba qosmio Q32 Hd version with windows Ultimate and I am getting the same problem as well.It always freezes with UrL redir.I was having similar problems with NIS 2008 as well but not with NIS 2007.It seems to be aproblem the way Symantec have written their software,Any suggestions?

I would suggest online help and see if you get further than the other guy. Good luck, let us know how you get on.

I have had 12 guys incluing 5 case managers trying to resolve the issue but all have failed.

Which of the above options have you attempted? Also, the Original Poster mentions that his system was infected with a trojan named Slupim.A. Have you followed the steps listed in the How To Troubleshoot a Suspected Malware Infection announcement to ensure your system is malware-free? This would also be a good step. Please let us know any other details about this error that might be important. Thanks!

Afternoon, I have come here asa I am extremely frustrated.  I installed 360 v2 on Saturday last as my existing utility had expired.  Install appeared to have successully installed, however when attempting the first virus / spyware scan the pc locked and required hard boot to recover.

On Sunday I again attempted to run scan, same results.  Short version is that I spent about five (5) hours on with techs, to include paying for the expert consulatation assistance.  After several hours, consultant indcated that they needed to confer with research and would get back to me in a few hours.  I did not hear anything back.

Last night, I again contacted support, went through all the same diagnostics and finally connected with another consultant.  After running utilities and cleaning files, he indicated that the issue was cleared and redirected to a tech who uninstalled and reinstalled 360 v2, and declared all fixed.  Before he dropped, I asked to run a scan to verify, it again locked at scanning traces of Security Risk.URLRedi.  After harbooting and trying a couple more times, the tech disconnected without comment or explaination.

So, is there a fix or direction for this condition, or am I better served uninstalling, asking for a refund and going back to McAfee, or possibly Trend?

Thanks,

I've had a similar go at trying to resolve this problem. The Norton support group was not much help and always tried to lead me to spending $100 for a virus and spyware investigation. I executed numerous virus scans with Norton, Kapersky and AVG nothing changed and my machine still hangs up with the last message "SecurtiyRiskUrl.Redir".

After spending hours and hours on this problem, I was able to determine what it was. It was SONAR that was the culprit. If it is enabled, my system will hang during the scan execution somewhere before first 10000 files. Since Norton hangs and no events are captured, it is impossible to troubleshoot. I wouldn't mind if Norton could provide me the sequence (files, folders, registries) that it uses to check the files. Then I could at least narrow it down.

I mentioned this to the Norton support and they felt that there is a file (malicious or not) on my machine that is causing the SONAR to hang. The solution from Norton support is to turn off SONAR....not really a solution but a band-aid.  My thoughts are that if a software program hangs then there is a bug....no way of capturing what caused the event is a shortfall. In any case, I await for Symantec (Norton) to investigate further.....looks like I am not the only one with this problem!
